People that think Clapton is overrated don't have much context regarding how influential he was. They are clueless in a lot of ways. The vast majority of "stock licks" that 70s players like Page, Beck, David Gilmour, Leslie West, Tony Iommi, The Skynyrd guys, Paul Kossoff and so many more all came straight from Eric. Does your favorite guitarist play a Les Paul through a Marshall???? Gee I wonder who started that trend - yep, Eric Clapton. Eric's catalog in terms of music/song quality destroys virtually everyone's. John Mayall, Blind Faith, Yardbirds, Guest with the Beatles/George Harrison "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", Cream, Derek and Dominos and this list goes on. He could put out a 10 cd set and you'd know every song. So would most other music fans. Without Cream you have no Black Sabbath. No Van Halen. Cream defined the power trio. Jeff Beck was a much more innovative, inventive player than Eric, but Eric's take on the blues is top-notch. He makes it look easy because it is easy for him. Most of the blues standards rock guitarists/bands do were all unearthed by Clapton. Most players are too lazy to dig deep into the blues and find hidden gems. Eric spent a life time introducing rock fans to great blues songs. BTW, Beck and Page loved Clapton. There's a reason Eric plays stadiums and Traci Guns plays dumps. Quality of material over 50 years. Think Clapton peaked with Cream? Go listen to Derek and the Dominoes live from 1970. Listen to "Why Does Love Have To Be So Sad" Live from the Fillmore East on UA-cam here. If you don't feel anything, you probably don't have much of a pulse. And just because you have the chops to play that solo, no need to worry, you never could have come up with it. He's still capable of generating that excitement now.
Traci Guns is only saying this because he's a super leftoid and he didn't like Clapton's comments on the jab. He also said that Ted Nugent can't play guitar anymore which is a flat out lie.
Exactly. Just like all the liberals that said how wonderful electric vehicles are. Now they conveniently hate Teslas. Because, Elon Music is more conservative now.
You do have to wonder because a lot of people started piling on Clapton after his comments on the jab. Rolling Stone mag even dropped him from the top 5 greatest guitarists of all time down to 20.
Clapton show was ''THE'' most boring show in my entire life . Clapton sat down on a sofa and played like no one else is watching in front of few thousand people . The only ones who enjoyed the show, were the ones in adult diapers . I slept standing up like a damn horse . Security woke me up and I realised show was over ..
And the thing about the Layla song is that the famous slide guitar solo is by Duane Allman. The Derek and the dominoes album is essentially a Clapton and Duane Allman album
I totally agree with Tracii on Clapton being overrated. Man you should really check out the new Sunbomb album with Tracii Guns and Micheal Sweet. Fucking killer album and Tracii is on fire. So is Michael Sweet. Definitely worth checking out I think.
What you don't understand is that, it's not what he's doing now, it's what he's done. I purchased a hard bound book that listed every single concert Eric has played live, he started around 1964. he's been performing since the early 60's! I had Cream Live, EC was Here, Goodbye Cream, Disraeli Gears, Wheels of Fire. All kick ass albums. How about his career with the Yardbirds, John Mayall, Delaney and Bonnie, Derek and the Dominoes, Cream then on his own. He had a career equaled to no one. Sure, he's old, laid back, whatever, he's still a living legend. IKC what anyone says, I know the real truth about EC.
I took up guitar in the 70's to seperate myself from jocks. Traci Guns has reverted back to that kind of mentality. Whose better. Whose best. Who cares?
Thanks Doctor, it is my opinion and I am welcome to it. Page better than all of them. Clapton better than whoever Gun is. I guess LA guns? I never liked poser rock. Clapton and page Seminole greats, No one from the poser brigade can claim greatness. Zeppelin above all and that we agreed on. Thanks Doctor.
you guys that are slagging EC are nuts. you don’t like his music, fine. not the most dynamic in concert, fair. but anyone who criticizes his playing is either deaf or just plain being a hater - he was Eddie Van Halen’s favorite guitarist for fucks sake. and in terms of talent, Tracii freaking Gunns (or however the fuck you spell it, doesn’t matter anyway) isn’t fit to carry Clapton’s guitar case. you rule, Dr. Fukk! 🤘🏼
Jeff Beck was my old guitar teacher's favorite guitarist. My old teacher is Greg Douglass(ex Steve Miller Band on Book Of Dreams & The Joker, ex Greg Kihn Band & ex Doobie Brothers). But yeah, Fresh Cream & Disraeli Gears are the Clapton stuff I like. But, Beck mowes!!! Blow By Blow. Greg played me a Rockabilly song by JB that blew me away!! Yeah, Beck is my choice. Unfortunately, I never got to see Traci Guns as I was by 89' I was well into my Thrash/Hardcore/Punk thing but I'd love to see LA Guns now. PS: Thanks for wishing me a Happy Birthday on Facebook Ralph! I had a good one!
Have to agree with him on this one. “Layla” was Clapton’s pinnacle but let’s be honest it’s Duane Allman that makes that album and not Clapton. I saw the Beck & Clapton tour and Beck just spanked him.
I agree besides Cream and D& D not a fan of Eric especially compared to Beck or Peter Green but as a song writer/producer Page is the man! I also love the first LA Guns album!
Tracii literally played a gig from a bathroom where his fans couldn't watch him in person......that takes the cake for lamest thing in live rock n roll history.
Couldn’t agree more. In fact I’ve been saying this for years and some people think I’m crazy. It’s only because they’ve heard over and over in the media that Clapton is this Godlike and innovative player. No doubt he is musically gifted and intimately knows his instrument. I saw Clapton live in the 90s and it was by far the most boring show I’d ever been to.
Would crazy nights win over the yard birds stuff or Eric Clapton solo albums lol. I agree, never got into the yard birds or Clapton. I love Zeppelin tho.
Clapton's talent is in playing on records. Not his song writing ability. The obvious examples are playing on the cream albums, Derek and the dominos albums, blind Faith albums, that blues cover album From the cradle , all the guest appearances he's made over the years. His live show has been good at points but most of the time it is substandard.
As a guitar player since 1977 I TOTALLY agree Clapton is overrated. He did bring the blues to the forefront and is a fantastic songwriter, but when Jimi Hendrix and Jeff Beck walked the earth calling Clapton God was very much of a stretch. He never played anything I could learn in minutes
Yeah that whole "stealing George Harrison's wife" thing is a load tho; people just like saying it because they like the sound of it, or don't know the real story. George Harrison and Patti Boyd were finished by the time Clapton got involved with her, and they both had George Harrison's blessing to consummate.
Completely agree with him. The only 2 songs he did worth a damn was sunshine of your love and Layla. Duane Allman made that song. Clapton is a prime example of being the first to do something but not the best. 😂 I shot the sheriff? Gimme a break. Hell go check out LA Guns and Sunbombs latest albums on Frontiers… TraciI plays circles around Clapton.
I don't know, No Sunshine of your Love, no N.I.B. No N.I.B. and Sabbath's song writing may have taken a more Jazz Rock Fusion direction, as opposed to a heavy guitar power chord driven one. And Cream and Eric Clapton's guitar influence can be heard heavily in Sabbath (and Deep Purple). No Sabbath, no Eddie Van Halen, No Eddie Van Halen, no Randy Rhoads. No Eddie Van Halen and no Randy Rhoads, means no Traci Guns. Rock N Roll is a living art form with it's own Ecosystem! You can't cut at it's roots without taking down the whole tree! And sorry Traci, but even you can't throw enough shade to make up for that tree when it's gone. So be cool and stay FROSTY!
Dr fuk have you heard the new Tracii guns song from his group sunbomb ? It is called light up the sky,You might find the song very interesting , check it out
Cream was great with Erik Clapton...After that I will take jimmy page with led Zeppelin any day of the rest of my life ! I never get tired of hearing led Zeppelin! 🤘🏼💀
Just ONE Night. Are you saying this album is not a masterpiece. I won't argue the other things you said here, but Clapton has some great albums and songs as a solo artist.
I like Tracy guns but comparing him to Clapton you must be doing some serious drugs and some serious drinking now my favorite is Jimmy Page because of the songs the band just Paige in general love Clapton love Beck saw Beck one month before we lost him rest in peace Clapton shows what he could do in cream you think he lost that he only got better but he chooses not to do endless solos he said they didn't have the same meaning for him anymore so I still love Clapton listen to his cream s*** and that says everything
I love Tracii and I'm not a big fan of Clapton. He's a great player but Page/ Beck their the elites out of that era. Now Tracii is a great player but where is in his career? I think Tracii is the guy from his era. Technically way more sound than Slash imo but his ego has turned his career and others to shit! Beck is great but Page had it all. Producer, engineer and architect of the greatest band ever! Tracii let that slip through his fingers. As much as he'll never admit it Steve Riley🙏 was the backbone of LA Guns and ego blew it up!
Tracii has a habit of lying his ass off, yet he is telling the truth here. For his time, he may have been very good, yet he never advanced and got left behind. C.C. Deville has more chops then Clapton does.
Rita Coolidge came up with the piano bridge on "Layla" but was not credited for it. She could have made out pretty good. But hey can you help support Crossroads? 🥨
People that think Clapton is overrated don't have much context regarding how influential he was. They are clueless in a lot of ways. Spot on!
Guns got the poke? Bless his swollen heart.
Clapton is a libtard too
You do have to wonder because a lot of people started piling on Clapton after his comments on the jab. Rolling Stone mag even dropped him from the top 5 greatest guitarists of all time down to 20.
Yup
I always thought Billy Gibbons deserved all the praise Clapton got.
The way that guy combines Blues, Rock & TONE....man....what a trailblazer.
Traci Guns? HA, Ha, Ha, Ha
The man is a hell of a player
I totally agree with Traci on this!! He's spot on.
I've been saying this my whole life!
Yep, me to. You know another one?? (Santana)
Clapton 100% overrated. Songwriting he's pretty damn good
Traci who?
He's right! Clapton has not been relvent since the late 60's early 70s.
And Traci Guns hasn't been relevant since 1989 and he was never really that relevant. It's not a good argument.
As I do also. Right on Tracii!👍
Comparing Traci guns to EC is like comparing a Yugo to a Bentley
Exactly...
🤣
Wrong.
Tracii would blow EC off the stage any day 😊😊
If Tracii is the Bentley, yes. But I like both. Cocaine rules
A hack dissing on a legend. Sounds about right.
I love those Cream albums. Can't stand Clapton's subsequent stuff!
Got to agree, Cream was it for me!!! Caught LA Guns a few times back in the Hammerjacks days!!!
My all-time favorite guitar solo was done by Clapton in the song "Just Like a Prisoner" from his '85 "Behind the Sun" album.
One of them was in Cream, one of them was in… LA Guns
Take away Traci’s high gain amps, his effects and give him a Tweed Twin, a Strat and a cord.
Then we’ll see who the better guitar player is.
And the thing about the Layla song is that the famous slide guitar solo is by Duane Allman. The Derek and the dominoes album is essentially a Clapton and Duane Allman album
I don’t agree with Tracii on much, but I do agree with him on this. Sorry. Not a Clapton fan. Just my opinion.
Well, that’s like his opinion.
I totally agree with Tracii on Clapton being overrated. Man you should really check out the new Sunbomb album with Tracii Guns and Micheal Sweet. Fucking killer album and Tracii is on fire. So is Michael Sweet. Definitely worth checking out I think.
Agreed! Excellent album!

It’s click bait. No one really even knows who Traci Guns or LA guns for that matter is. Now people are talking about him.
I took up guitar in the 70's to seperate myself from jocks.
Traci Guns has reverted back to that kind of mentality. Whose better. Whose best.
Who cares?
Who's
Thanks Doctor, it is my opinion and I am welcome to it. Page better than all of them. Clapton better than whoever Gun is. I guess LA guns? I never liked poser rock. Clapton and page Seminole greats, No one from the poser brigade can claim greatness. Zeppelin above all and that we agreed on. Thanks Doctor.
First 3 albums rock..so do other albums after. Solo on Magdalane off of Cocked n loaded totally awesome
Overrated or not Is a Legend and a Great Musician, so, Whatever says Tracii Is His personal opinion ...
I actually agree with Traci. I do like Cream, but after that... I guess, the soundtrack to Communion? That's about it
you guys that are slagging EC are nuts. you don’t like his music, fine. not the most dynamic in concert, fair. but anyone who criticizes his playing is either deaf or just plain being a hater - he was Eddie Van Halen’s favorite guitarist for fucks sake. and in terms of talent, Tracii freaking Gunns (or however the fuck you spell it, doesn’t matter anyway) isn’t fit to carry Clapton’s guitar case. you rule, Dr. Fukk! 🤘🏼
YOU RULE!
I thought the blind faith album was a good record!
Despite the cursed album cover I do enjoy the Blind Faith album he did with Steve Winwood
Tracy who?
Jeff Beck was my old guitar teacher's favorite guitarist. My old teacher is Greg Douglass(ex Steve Miller Band on Book Of Dreams & The Joker, ex Greg Kihn Band & ex Doobie Brothers). Clapton with Cream was great. The Detroit 10/15/67 soundboard is a must. The guitar solo from NSU is one of the best ever by any rock guitarist.
Tracii literally played a gig from a bathroom where his fans couldn't watch him in person......that takes the cake for lamest thing in live rock n roll history.
I liked Cream, but mostly for Ginger Baker, who was a rock n roll animal (although he would say he was more a jazz drummer)
Tacky Guns dresses funny.
So did Little Richard, whom without there'd be nobody
Couldn’t agree more. In fact I’ve been saying this for years and some people think I’m crazy. Slap in the face, Malaria and Magdalaine are cool songs imo from their second album.
Would crazy nights win over the yard birds stuff or Eric Clapton solo albums lol. I agree, never got into the yard birds or Clapton. I love Zeppelin tho.
I have to agree. I much prefer Jeff Beck and Robin Trower
Agree that Cream was Clapton's pinnacle!
I honestly do not get the whole Clapton thing. Or Hendrix for that matter. But I didn't grow up in that time, so I assume it was 'magic' of its time.
I Love Led Zeppelin and Eric Clapton and Tracy guns
Clapton's talent is in playing on records. Not his song writing ability. The obvious examples are playing on the cream albums, Derek and the dominos albums, blind Faith albums, that blues cover album From the cradle , all the guest appearances he's made over the years. Other than Cream, Clapton's greatest achievement was stealing Patti Boyd from George Harrison.
Yeah that whole "stealing George Harrison's wife" thing is a load tho; people just like saying it because they like the sound of it, or don't know the real story. George Harrison and Patti Boyd were finished by the time Clapton got involved with her, and they both had George Harrison's blessing to consummate.
Pretty spot on. I love Cream, but everything past that 😴
I find Jeff Beck way overrated, Clapton is a great guitarist. 1 out of 10 people even talk about Beck ever!
I think Traci is spot on. I never have understood the whole Clapton as a guitar god thing. Good player, but IMO not great. But a great songwriter.
Completely agree with him. The only 2 songs he did worth a damn was sunshine of your love and Layla. Duane Allman made that song. Clapton is a prime example of being the first to do something but not the best. 😂 I shot the sheriff? Gimme a break. Derek and the Dominoes..
I like Clapton with Cream. After that only a few songs like let it rain and forever man,,
I have to agree.
Traci Guns is a Punk! Ted Nugent puts Traci Guns to shame!
Ted puts many to shame. Hard to top "Stranglehold"
Dr fuk have you heard the new Tracii guns song from his group sunbomb ? It is called light up the sky,You might find the song very interesting , check it out
I heard it. Pretty good
@@almosthuman56 it’s diary of a madman imo , keep up the cool videos 🤘
Traci has such a killer sound. Clapton, as a player, is a big yawn. He has a few things I like, but I've always found him to be a bit boring.
Sorry Dad…..Traci’s right
Cream was great with Erik Clapton...After that I will take jimmy page with led Zeppelin any day of the rest of my life ! I never get tired of hearing led Zeppelin! 🤘🏼💀
Just ONE Night. Are you saying this album is not a masterpiece. I won't argue the other things you said here, but Clapton has some great albums and songs as a solo artist.
I really don't listen to either one of them much. They're both ok. But ok. That's pretty much it. I did like that song from The Color of Money.
Hes not wrong!
He rode the first wave, got lucky
Rory Gallagher Gary Moore Frank Marino Michael Schenker Uli John Roth Lesli West Jeff Beck are my top players !!!!!
Rory Gallagher smokes Clapton for blues.
Tracii Guns is correct.
AS MUCH AS I DON'T LIKE TO, I HAVE TO AGREE WITH THE KING OF CLICHE'D LICKS......
Eddie would not agree with these comments dissing Eric Clapton, he would piss all over Traci Gunns and Ralph too
Eric treatedEd Like shit. So I doubt he would care.
I doubt it
Eddie didn't like Clapton after Cream either
Clapton - still hanging around ?
I thought 80s guys were bad ! ( Sebation Bach )
I think Calos Santa is a better blues guitarist than Clapton...
I think he's overated as a guitar player...he's come up with some pretty good songs though...Jeff Beck is the same to me...😐
Ive been saying it for 40 years. Clapton and Townsend the 2 most over rated players EVER!
My Guitar Gently Weeps .He was on fire there.
Eric Crapton.
cream blind faith and derek and the dominos was his peak the rest of his stuff is bullshit
He is overrated.
Cream. Ok. Clapton solo ?? I would rather bite on a ball of tin foil.
I only like a few of his hits...
He hates Clapton cause of his views now. Personally I like his work in Cream, but he's more of a blues player and he be the first to tell you.
Tracii who?
