An interesting video. You truly are a no-nonsense young lady. I liked how you told your Swift story and kept it professional. Your honesty in leaving will hopefully speak to others on “how” to leave. Why you left made complete sense. Four, five, six weeks or more away from home is lunacy. Although suddenly, you did it right. You brought the equipment home. That says a great about your character. Your new employer will cherish you. Keeping the secrecy of who you drive for at this time is wise. Blessings to you. Drive and stay safe.

From someone who's been driving a long time, if you continue, my advice is... driving is easy, at least locally what I do. You will get comfortable pulling all that weight, feel like you can throw the truck around, but its more dangerous than it looks, and it will easily kill you. I've seen a lot of death on the road, that tractor is a piece of paper compared to the weight of the trailer. Remember that and be safe. I had a near death experience with a roll over at highway speed because I got hit by another truck.

I recently got my CLP and am starting driving school on march 29th. Swift is the only company out of 10 that I applied, that accepted me. From day one of application, I knew it was going to be my starter company and nothing more.. But I will be staying for at LEAST one year. My father has been an OTR owner operator for 21 years and I spent ALL of my teenage years traveling the country with him.. This will come natural to me. Best of luck with your "secret" employer! It's one hell of a lifestyle.. and I got a fiance and 11 year old son at home... I got some miles to run and places to see!

i did the same thing back in april of 2010. went to mtc, a cdl school in hazelwood, mo. started with swift in may with a trainer. ran out of Edwardsville, ks and did my training with my "mentor" for 6 weeks. he was on a wal mart dedicated account that ran out of a wal mart distribution center about 50 miles south of the swift terminal. that was good and bad because while i didn't get to experience the full otr lifestyle, i did get to do a lot of backing. i don't know if it's still the same but you had to do a certain amount of backing and i finished that very quickly. but that first week or 2 of otr when i got out on my own was a little rough. fueling at the right spots along the fueling routes and contacting dispatch, especially after hours took getting used to. this was back when they had the old Qualcomms and paper log books. but once i got into the flow it was alright. they were pretty good with home time if you gave them the minimum of 12 days notice. i believe i ran 110,000 miles in my year there. i knew within 6 weeks of getting out on my own that i would only be there a year. my goal was to get a local job in my home town of st louis at some point. swift was giving me reimbursement for cdl school at around 200 bucks a month for 2 years, if i remember right. but 6 in and i knew i didn't want to do 2 years of otr. so i made a goal of finishing my first year to get a week of vacation and quitting. if you like to get a lot of work i would recommend being okay with running east of the Mississippi river. whenever i was out west it seemed like i did more sitting. i grew up in san diego and swift kind of screwed me once and to make amends my driver manager got me a load going out there to see family. i took 48 hours off and it took 2 more days for them to give me a move. and it turned out it was taking my empty and deadheading to el paso, 750 miles away. that was by far the farthest i ever went with an empty. and once out there, sat for 3 more days. they pay you a minimum pay, like 50 or 60 buck(back then) if they have no loads. i don't know what it is now. new york city is good and bad. mostly bad. I've been to Brooklyn, queens, the bronx, staten island, and long island. and while long island isn't hectic, you have to go through brooklyn/queens to get there and out. if you go there, the height signs are all off. just remember that if you're on an interstate that all bridges are at least 13'7", so you're good. cause unless things have changed, you'll see signs for 12 foot something on the Brooklyn queens expressway. but it's an interstate, i278. there was even a big sign saying that all cmv's had to exit. but i was right behind 2 trucks that didn't get off, and that helped me out immensely. because had i followed the alternative route, saying it would of been a headache is a vast understatement. if you have concerns try to ask more senior drivers when you get out that way at terminals. harrisburg, pa and richmond, va terminals are a couple. eventually i made it to a year and worked for Schneider for a year after that(dedicated wal mart close to st louis) and got my local job in st louis after that. it was an LTL job for central transport that i didn't like because it started at 16 bucks an hour (2012) and half of it you were out in a covered dock exposed to the elements on a forklift and they didn't pay overtime until 55 hours. so i worked there for a year and got another local job doing shipping containers. which is a headache in itself but I've been there since march of 2013. not to say that i haven't looked into getting other jobs but nothing has been tempting enough for me to leave. so i think I've rambled enoug. if youve made it this far then good luck to you.

I drove trucks for nearly 30 years before I retired 2 years ago. When I started driving in 1988, I was out 3 weeks, home 2 days. Later I got home every weekend. The first year was like being on vacation and getting paid for it. My best recommendation is: Don't have any Accidents, Don't get any Traffic Tickets and When the Weather gets Really BAD, Park in a Safe Place. Also, even though C.B. Radios have a lot of garbage on them, listen for Reports of Accidents, Construction Ahead and Lane Closures. Be Safe. Have a Blessed Day.

DOT officer just sign the ticket by signing the ticket you are not admitting guilt all that means is that you're going to take care of the ticket I wouldn't even tell your employer about it because you're not convicted until you go to court by getting an attorney you don't have to go to court they do it for you and they will get it down to a parking ticket you're going to have to pay lawyer fees and the court cost but there's no points nothing on your record that's the way you want it

Well Hello there, iam Rocky loved your video, iam glad I found your channel, you were really easy and respectful to swift nice good job, me I've never herd people talk good about swift. You said you read all your comments so I thought I would leave one for you to read, well not going to get to personal with this comment but alittle bit about me ,
I started driving in 2009 I got my permit first to make sure I was smart enough to pass every thing got my DOT physical made the call to PRIME on a Tuesday a recruiter called me that night. The next day they did an over the phone interview on Friday they called me said if I want to come to Springfield MO they would bus me out there the next Tuesday, I've never drove a truck in my life , I had a friend that was a driver for knight, but I loved PRIME for some reason well because you see them all the time may be and they have some of the most beautiful trucks there is and I wanted to become a truck driver.... My buddy said he loved driving and I trusted him so I went for it... wow I MEAN WOW WHAT A RIDE I WAS GETTING READY TO HAVE!!!!! Welll I did it got thru my training ( me and my trainer hated echother) but and way I got thru it 6 1/2 months with him mainly that long was because he hated me so I acted dumb so he couldn't just get rid of me, any way got my own truck hayyyyy guess what , I didn't get the best most beautiful truck when I got on my own it was a leftover of course, they want to make sure your going to be a good driver and I was, I was on time every load early did good fuel milage in 3 1/2 months they brought me in and gave me 6 new trucks to choose from OMG I was soooo nervous they were all soooo beautifull brand new 2011 's and its oh I think March aplril 2010 still so ya I was in hog heaven I chose a HUGH 2011 PET CUSTOM CONDO SLEEPER CAB tv microwave refrigerator memory fome mattress y
Letter seats omg it was dark dark purple with a pink pin strip , and you know prime trucks all get the prime pin strip omg it was beautiful and BIG HUGH I DROVE IT TO driver check in and every body in that office was standing clapping for me and my upgrade EXCEPT MY FLEET MANAGER she was passed I picked such a big truck, well cut she wasn't going to get the big bonus fuel bonus es any more this pig sucked the fuel DOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWNNNNNNN,,, OMG IT WAS BEAUTIFULLLL and yep of course the first place I wanted to go was home to show all my friends my new truck and my manager got me a load coming to Albuquerque a beer load from anhiserbush in Denver,,,,, made my delivery and dropped my trailer at our drop yard at the airport. Hay if you find me interesting I would love to talk some more about prime let me know 2009 to 2021 still accident free no citations no violations 216 3 point inspections 100,000,000 mile clube ,, And now iam driving in the oil field this is my e-mail Rocky_bradford@hotmail.com leave me a message let's chat.... take care! I was told ahead of time about how long from delivery until receiving the delivery pay. I don’t know what the policy is now because I’m retired.

Swift was the best choice I made. I went to their school and then went northeast regional home every weekend making .55 cpm. I would of stayed if they had local in my area. What they don’t tell you is you don’t have to go OTR starting out. They even have dedicated accounts where you can be home throughout the week. These accounts are at different terminals. You don’t have to be on an account out of your home terminal. It can be across country and still get home.

Have to say it was nice working there average was about 1300 a week after taxes. It wasn’t bad working 5 day out of the week on a 10 hour shift. Yeah I could have made more if I did my whole 14 hour shift and work my sixth day. But over all really good.
