I was disappointed with the prologue for Eye of the World... That is still my favorite scene in the book, yet a let down on audio... and I am on book 4.
To be fair to Rand, sleep deprivation and pressure played a part. Guy couldn't even get sleep without getting pulled in the World of Dreams and tormented and taunted. And pretty much everyone he met was a Darkfriend out to get him.
The Galad/Gawyn/Mat sparring scene is probably my favorite Mat scene in the whole series. I'm not a Mat fan, either. But a sickly, scrawny farmboy kicking the crap out of two very talented but rather arrogant princes? YES, PLEASE! Although, I have to admit I also loved his inner monologue as he hopped across rooftops with fireworks!
There was a gray man in that group of twelve he killed around the campfire. There's a passage where Rand is counting the bodies and morbidly lining them up kneeling and sees one extra body he didn't remember seeing before.
It did seem like WTF moment Mat saving the bitches in trouble and not even a thank you. Like cold man just cold. Not like they had everything perfectly in hand. They had the upper hand but they should have treated him with some gratitude.
The Matt sparring scene is great. But probably my favorite scene in this book is when the Grey men attack Perrin. Maybe it is just me, but the way RJ wrote that scene to not make them stand out is just perfect. Your eyes just sort of slide over them approaching. Just like the characters don't really notice them. Then how the scene just erupts in sudden violence and Moraine has a revelation about Perrins importance. Dun dun Duuuun.
I agree. I'm a trucker and I listen to them at work. They readers do a spectacular job voicing the characters, even if the female reader doing the man voices is a little cringey at times.
I love how each character group starts out with their own goals and story arcs and somehow Jordan writes the story so they all end up at the right place just in time for the climax- it’s so well written! Only thing I’m not enjoying at this part is how at the end these books are starting to have a Harry Potter feel where the chosen hero has to face off against some incarnation of the ultimate evil instead of just dealing with the problems they already have
While Robert Jordan did plan it as a trilogy at first, the publishers knew he wouldn’t stick with it and signed him for six. I think each of the first three ended as they did in case the series wasn’t successful, that way the series could cap off with some sense of finality if they had to call it quits. They just proved successful enough to where Robert Jordan could then break the formula. I am worried that the formula of the first three books will put off a work friend of mine who’s on The Great Hunt right now.
I agree that this seems like a trilogy that he extended which I'm happy about because I think flushing out this world will be amazing. I just finished reading book 3 about 5 minutes ago and come straight to your videos. I really love origin stories and the stories of all the forsaken knowing Lew's therin, even having a love interest is so interesting. I wish Robert didn't die and could have created a flushed out prequel series about Lew's Therin and the descent of the Forsaken and the leading to the breaking of the world. My one thing I wish we had
Hey, thanks for watching! I've often wondered if when Lews Therin was alive if all of the Forsaken called him the name of the previous Dragon. I, too, wouldn't mind an Age of Legends Wheel of Time series.
I set it down for almost a month during the white tower chapters. Finally finished. I like the series so far but man, Jordan’s writing style is tough for me personally. I find myself rereading paragraphs left and write to understand what he’s talking about, and sometimes have to just move on without fully understanding what he said. Anyone else experience this?
I'm 11 and when I was reading them I was knocking off one WoT book every one or maybe if I was slow two days. I'd stay up until like 12:00 reading, but still.
The series was planned as trilogy. It took off on this book. Mat starts his awsome really soon his breaking is not complete. This is the last book till a memory of light that you see this formula. The next 3 are considered the best of series... I win again lews Therin
Actually, Jordan's original plan was for 6 books, not 3. peterahlstrom.blogspot.com/2008/08/rolling-up-wheel-of-time-panel.html And in his original synopsis, Rand actually kills the Dark One.
well, that intro to this series of wot book reviews was right- as a wot fan, I love hearing what you thought and what you picked up on as you go along. Honestly, it must be what it was like for my friend when she had me give her my theories and stuff for Westworld as it was going on.
Just finished my first read of Dragon Reborn, and I really loved it. I’d say I enjoyed Egwene & company’s plotline second best, behind Mat’s. I respect your feelings on that matter, though. I’m starting Shadow Rising tonight; wish me luck!
I was so put off by the ending of this book! Soooo much detail leading into that battle from each group, then we get "Rand wins, the end." where is the detail here!?! I wanted to know what each group did but no lets sit around the table and "there is too much, I will sum up" ugh. Makes me want to tug my braid. I'm finally reading this series and have such high hopes for future books. Great video as always😁
Another great video. I know this is an older video and I just found you a few days ago, but my one comment is that the greatest part of Jordan's work, is that at one part or another we go from hating characters to liking them, but rest assured, by the end of the series, you will love them all. Also, at the end of the series, Lan is in my top 5 of favorite characters. You will like how it ends with him.
That passage you read from Thom is even more meaningful upon completing the series. Looking back, there was someone else who could have used that lesson a bit more.
Finished this last night...I loved it! However I am really frustrated with the ladies constantly leaving the tower and wandering around. I just want them to stay put and learn how to be Aes Sedai. Just stay at Hogwarts and learn your craft THEN go save the day!
I really enjoyed Tom and how he gets sucked back in those lives of these two boys. They are both ta'veren after all! How could you even hope to resist their gravity
Great review, as I go through this series we're having nearly the same thoughts on each installment. I'd say this ending was my favorite but the lead up to it was my least favorite if the 3 books so far. Nayneve is really the only character that's getting on my nerves so far and the Tar Valon stuff did get a bit long and boring at times. Im taking a break and am going to hammer through the first law trilogy before coming back and doing another 3 or so books from the WOT. Excited to see where this goes!
he takes thom to caemlyn with him to deliver a message to elayne's mother morgase, he learns about a plot against elayne while there. the key is that he takes thom, not teams up with him.
No doubt. Many people I know hung up on the first book before they make it out of the Two Rivers and put it down for months and then burning through the rest when they picked the book back up. He sets up how boring it is so well so you can see why even Baerlon is exciting to the group.
Just finished this book at felt much the same. Even more annoying than so much Egwene,Nynaeve, Elayne content was that Matt comes to save these dummies and they get mad at him and treat him like garbage.
Yeah, just finished and that seemed out of character after everything they had been through thought they would be happy/relived to see once almost DEAD Mat. Liked the book though, onto Book 4 Shadow Rising :)
Yea that was the only thing that I hated about them. This man, mat risked his life and broke into an unbreakable fortress to save ur fuckin ass. I had only one thought ' these ungrateful bitches '.
I find it absolitely hilarious, given the context of your thoughts on Rand v Ba'alzamon, that the Last Battle for Rand is technically Rand v Ba'alzamon.
Mats been my favorite since book one but more so because I don't like much about the rest. It was alot of fun really getting some povs from him finally.
@@mikesbookreviews You didn't came off as no liking, i think i wrote badly (english isn't my first language). I didn't like the 3th book very much in my first read and in the reread when i understand better Jordan and maybe reading in the original helped (the translation to portuguese is great, though) this book just gets better in the reread, even Rand barely being there (a flaw in my opinion because i love him) doesn't make a difference for me. My mind just blow off in the reread.
@@kissia358 Thank you so much! I'm always trying to improve them. This was back when I wasn't even really planning to have a book channel, so it was thrown together really quickly.
There was definitely too much of egwene, nyeaneve, and elanye. I didn't think it was very compelling and I was so bored though there plot. I think there needed to be more of the other plots as well. Definitely one of my least favorite wot books in the series. Still some great parts as well.
@@mikesbookreviews no, I'd have to agree with Simon on this - I'm loving your reviews, and love these books, but I skip the intro music. I like the format with the quote before the music though, I just find the musical section lasts too long.
***My apologies about the audio on this one. I was recording from my camera's microphone instead of my actual microphone***
I was disappointed with the prologue for Eye of the World... That is still my favorite scene in the book, yet a let down on audio... and I am on book 4.
Hello from the future
To be fair to Rand, sleep deprivation and pressure played a part. Guy couldn't even get sleep without getting pulled in the World of Dreams and tormented and taunted. And pretty much everyone he met was a Darkfriend out to get him.
That is absolutely accurate. I think I've read too much modern fantasy where the protagonist is perfect and it caught me off guard.
The Galad/Gawyn/Mat sparring scene is probably my favorite Mat scene in the whole series. I'm not a Mat fan, either. But a sickly, scrawny farmboy kicking the crap out of two very talented but rather arrogant princes? YES, PLEASE! That was a great moment that I regret leaving off my Top 10 Moments at the halfway mark video.
DemolitionDevon While it is nice for the pompous princes to get reined in, Galad is my boy.
Casey Miller does Galad get any better, because I’m in book 5 and hate Galad and Gawyn
mat is the GOAT!
He takes a jab at galad in the later books you referring to this scene in classic Mat style.
i love the scene were Mat's luck just goes crazy in tar valon when he leaves the tower
Lol when he leaves absolutely loaded with cash. Definitely an awesome scene lol
"Nynaeve...well, she's still Nynaeve..."
*cue me bursting into laughter*
There was a gray man in that group of twelve he killed around the campfire. There's a passage where Rand is counting the bodies and morbidly lining them up kneeling and sees one extra body he didn't remember seeing before.
Your comment about how the ladies treat Mat after he rescues them is, IMO, the beginning of why people love Mat so much by the end.
Finished the last book this morning and I wholeheartedly agree.

I felt that, too. Each of the 3 books is Rand vs the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher.

Maybe if enough people emailed Brandon Sanderson he’d do more WOT Books 😂
I bet if Jordan still lived we would've gotten a prequel series about Lewis Therin.
Next book is even better. So many Moments Of Awesomeness in this series! He breaks the mold completely. The endings will vary from here on out.
