I met a lady who was an Amazon reviewer. She said all was good but in the tiny print, you get a tax form at the end of the year for the retail amount of all the “free” items you review. She was in debt about $2500 for the tax she had to pay on it.
You two make a great couple,as you compliment each other…
Karen, you are a joy to watch. I like the variety and your relaxing voice is also appreciated. You will hit 100k in no time. Just keep doing what you're doing! Oh, please don't ever let success change you. I had to drop a popular gardening channel last year. I just couldn't watch the monetary waste and "gardening " projects that were so incredibly expensive it seemed decadent and unrelatable. Thankfully they at least stopped opening gifts from viewers they didn't need or seem to appreciate, as most were donated anyway. They were sure to mention viewers could still send gifts, but they wouldn't show videos ... talk about a "rabbit hole"... I admire you work ethic and that you enjoy nice things but are not above wearing thrifted items and even Target! Your appreciation for your career and audience, among other things, makes you a great business role model!❤... now we also have a wedding to look forward to! Thank you for offering great, honest advice and thrifting tips!
I think her best all time find is ROGER! Most hubs roll their 🙄eyes at “thrifting” or to some “treasure hunting”!
Strawbridge & Clothier was a higher end department store with the original store in Philadelphia and some branch stores in PA and other states.
Congrats on your upcoming marriage and adding to your home. 🎉🎉❤
Strawbridge & Clothier is/was a retail store. Mostly a mall anchor store. Think Macy's or JC Penny's. I'm in Dover DE. The one in our mall closed, I'd say, several years ago.
My hubby and I were just down in Lancaster Co. a month ago thrifting and discount shopping. I love all the thrift stores down there, I can't wait to go back, hopefully we will be looking a property down there soon also. Thanks for sharing and we love your channel.
Greetings from Arizona 🌵
Hi Karen 👋
I would have picked up the green trellis for the garden 🪴
Hi, neighbor! I’m from AZ too-Phoenix.
Following you for a long time. Good luck with your upcoming nuptials. Hope you get a prenup.
Karen! where is your mind at??!! Body parts sticking out, I never would have even thought of that LOL!❤
OMG hahahaha Stephtococcus isnt that strep throat! I think those were paper whites.
just 2 things huh? Is Roger distracting your shopping???🤣 Sell the lumber
In the Victorian era it was common to find flowers like roses on shaving mugs. I think the concept about flowers being too feminine for men is a recent one.
Do you ever use the childrens belt in the shopping cart to belt in your purse? Worries me someone will snag your purse!
Used it 2 times both times it had to be cut off because they jam
Ah Karen! You're speaking my language! When you mentioned you cut open your cosmetic tubes, boy, I was right there. I use everything to the very last drop - toothpaste, moisturizer, you name it!😂🥰
I love how Roger is coming out of his shell on your videos! At first, it seemed he was shy and not talkative but now…he is so interactive and it seems he has a sense of humor!!! Love it!!!!
Yes and he has a nice smile. Enjoy you both.
It wasn't his channel, don't think it was being shy and being shy isn't a bad thing
Strawbridge and Clothier was a dept store around the Philadelphia area. My Mom sold gold jewelry there in the 1970s.
❤️
My mother was deathly afraid of the wood slat escalators at S&C after she saw a woman get her spike heel caught in them. She would keep a pair of flats in her handbag to pop on before stepping on. How embarassing for me as a preteen! 😂
I like your idea to sell the existing front of house lights and replace with the rectangle black lights, those are really nice!
You and Roger are a great couple. I love going on thrift adventures with you two.❤
Hi Karen, that's not a shaving mug, it's a tea bag holder, with the spout so you can drink the tea that drains from the bags. Thanks for taking us along!
I worked as an assistant to buyers at Strawbridge and Clothier in the early 90’s ♥️ lived a few blocks away. Great memories. It was in downtown Philly, gorgeous historic building with the train station in the basement.
I remember that.
For the hammock you can put 2- 4x4’s with hooks in the ground. Works nicely and looks nice if you stain and seal the wood. You could even put fence post caps on the top and really finish it off nicely.
Your wooden 'dog bowl' (around the late 50s early 60s) would have carried fruit as a dining table centerpiece or nuts with crackers (tools) for a coffee table centerpiece.
It is made with beautiful exotic tropical rainforest hardwood from Sierra Leone, West Africa...should have made that your third pick of the day!
I really enjoyed this video. You may not have found much. But it was still fun!
Hey you two. I’m weird…I love the big, rusty safety pin 😂 ty for taking us along ❤❤ Dawn
Love how you stay positive even when you haven’t found a lot of good items. Regards to Roger! All the best to you both!!🥰
I love vintage Kollections store!!! The owner is so nice!!!
Loved the road runner birds🐦. You express such joy and happiness when you are with Roger❤. Greetings from Cape Town South Africa 🇿🇦.
Hi Karen an roger love coming around with you both uk 👋👋👋👋🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Another fun & interesting video. The antique store is way overpriced! I would have kept some of the knotty pine & made some craft projects from it.
Oh you are probably getting tired of this Canadian carpenter offering his two cents.
Acclimating the wood is just getting everything on the same page. If you dont acclimate your material or wood you can get gaps and pressure points. A lot of contractors don’t practice this but your contractor is TOP NOTCH!
Actually they are so particular and professional it’s a treat to see their work.
They keep the site clean, they exceed the codes and they truly care about their work. There is no way they are the cheapest contractor but I cant imagine there are too many contractors as good as they are.
Karen I think the new lights would look lovely on the front of your house, especially the large scale. You could always spray paint the smaller existing light black and hang them in the back.
Rope hammocks are WONDERFULLY comfortable!! I have a metal stand in Satsuma, FL that you can have if you can get it to PA, but it also needs to be sanded and painted or powder coated. Surely would not be worth it for you. I do however highly recommend a rope hammock. Think they were first made in Pawley's Island, SC
On another note, I feel your pain seeing all of that good lumber hauled off for disposal but you are doing the right thing. We did a major remodel and addition and I couldn't bear to see the scraps of new lumber go into the dumpster so I saved much of it outside under the 4 foot eaves, up on leftover bricks so it stayed dry. We've used a few pieces and burned quite a bit in the outdoor fireplace but now have to slowly get it out with the trash 🙃
OMG!! Just looked back and heard you say that the hammock was $15!! You probably could have done very well with that on FB Marketplace
I love watching you both work together and Karen you are the best at explaining why you select what you do. You have given me the courage to go back into resale and it is helping me have time to take care of my family who have health issues.(Mom 103 years old still in her own home and my other half, he was just diagnosed with Lung Cancer, we lost our daughter in our house fire in 2022. You have no idea how much you have given me the inspiration and watching you is so pleasant. Your video is my escape for a break! Best of luck always to you both!
Strawbridge & Clothier was a wonderful department store in Philadelphia PA. The main store at 8th & Market Sts. was beautiful at Christmas when I was little. The had a Christmas village in the windows with moving parts. Great memories!
ROGERS SMILE SHOWS HE IS ON CLOUD NINE.
HE IS SO HAPPY BEING INLOVE WITH YOU.
We are ridiculously happy 😂
I think the flowers are paper whites.
Wowza Karen that 💍 on your left hand👍👍👍good job Roger!!!!
Hope that rock was thrifted! Or at least found at a pawn shop, LOL.
I get so excited for your videos ❤️❤️
Strawbridge was a local family name in DE. Had a department store chain. Loved the 2 that used to be in DE. ! Sort of a Macys rival
Thank you Roger for teaching us about the Scrabble games!!
Had to pause Karen. Strawbridge & Clothier was a huge department store . It eventually became just Strawbridges. They had a few in Center city Philadelphia and in most malls in NJ and Delaware.
@ around 3:53 next to the green crock you were looking at there looked to be a Catherine Holm green vintage mcm pot. Her stuff is very popular & can go for good money- just fyi😊
I also saw it.😅
@@islandgrlthrift3853 I was yelling at her to look at it, but she didn’t hear me, lol😊
Do you have any Finders Keepers near you? They change prices every so many days, so items don't sit too long. There are several in eastern PA, near Carlisle, PA.
My wedding dress was from a consignment store $200. Fit perfect just had to shorten it a bit.
The patriotic hat would look good as part of Memorial Day and 4th of July decor. Also the black lights definitely match with your house...great find!
Strawdridges my mom shopped there for fancy clothes , as a kid I loved looking through the cataloges , it was located downtown Philadelphia very iconic, good times
Thanks for posting your videos, they can be fun.
2nd comment- I really love your new lights. I would definitely sell the ones you currently have and put the new ones up. Great idea! 😊
You two are adorable together.
Love you and your channel! Is that a ring on your finger? Congrats to you and roger ❤ house is coming along! Donna from NY
I love your new exterior lights!!!! They absolutely go with your house!!!! Can’t wait to see them installed. Now I want to change my puny outdoor lights! LOL
So. Do you have a register for wedding? I would love to gift you two wonderful people.
That lumber could be donated to Habitat for Humanity.
Really laughed at that big safety pin ! That’s for great fun !😃
I squeeze the last bit or drop out of products (and truth be told, I've cut it open and scraped) lol
You two are so darn cute together.
Have you heard of Kintsugi?
I am building a shop and people have given me a hard time about saving the wood. Sometimes I love to sit and make signs with the wood scraps. I couldn't let that trailer load go either. Maybe bird houses.
I love a good hammock! Very relaxing.
You guys are adorable…jealous of your cuteness!
Strawbridge and Clothier was a mid to upper end quality store. Base store was at 8th and Market in Philadelphia. It was owned by the Strawbridge family who are Quakers and so very nice. They lived in the Philadelphia area.
That box you found looks like it is one of their boxes from the 80’s. In the very early 80’s when the USA opened trade with China, Strawbridge’s had a huge display of items from China. I bought 4 water colors on silk for $45 (it cost $400 to have framed). I bring this up because the piece you bought in that box may have come from that time and display.
The black lights r so gorgeous!
Lumber equals bonfire parties
I was wondering if the contractor was going to want to drywall over the paneling in your office. I saw your video where they removed the ceiling. So, I thought they might want to do the same with the walls. It's all going to be so nice when it's finished. I have a bedroom with the same knotty pine that I really should paint lol. Love you and Roger together! And love all your videos!
thrift stores have the worst hours for people who work 9-5
We love our glass top ever had a problem!
Strawbridge & Clothier, was a department store that my mother loved in the 60's. It had a resturant inside with a soda fountain that served the best hot fudge sundaes. Sadly it was demolished years ago and it is now a Target. Love your channel!
The Strawbridge & Clothier store was not demolished. Gambles, department store across the street on the south side of Market St. Was demolished. The Strawbridge building is still there. Beautiful exterior architecture is now home to federal government offices. It is on the northwest side of 8th and Market Sts
Co
Correction: Gimbles, not Gambles
@@clarechomyn9686 The Strawbridge and Clothier in the town I grew up in was demolished, there were many locations. It sounds like you're talking about the Philly location. I'm referring to Delco.
i got cut on washing machine in 1965 chains going in different directions lid missing . i was 5 and had 68 stiches. i cant help thinking about it when i see these machines
We did a whole video on it where we sat down together and shared our story 💜
I’m so sorry! 💜
Men’s clothes might me a thing.
I thought I heard you say Streptococcus when you were looking at the faux potted flower. I'm confident that that is not the name of any flower:). You are so naturally funny. I love it. Lori
😂
Wooden fruit bowl!
🌼 Thank you for sharing Karen! So nice to see you & Roger happy and so blessed🥰🙏
You’ll are so cute together.
I love going along with you and Roger on your ventures and thrift, stores and Goodwill! I think you are both very kind people down and down to earth. Looking forward to seeing another cooking video when your addition is completed! ❤💙
Karen my brother-in-law has lights on his fence in the backyard and they come on at dusk and go off at dawn. Beautiful ambience under the lighting is quite subtle but still noticeable and it makes a beautiful statement. Maybe you should look into those as well for your backyard
My neighbor has them!
the hammocks are fu n for abt a week
looks like a bowl for nuts
Use the lumber for above ground garden boxes.
It’s pine
Shelves!
Shaving mug? It looked like a toothbrush/toothpaste holder.
I think your right.
I am the owner of the shop and I rear chef that mug it is called a scuttle cup and is classified as a shaving mug. We do research our items.
Might be a thing to do.
Is it a swing?
Hello from Germany 🙂😍
Karen those style of chairs are super dangerous for kids . They flip and swing forward smashing their faces even adults do it. We know from experience had to literally get rid of our set! Terrible lol
That giraffe would be so awsome with some tropical foilage and some pussy willows displayed! I am so excited for you and Roger maybe I will be blessed with such a fine gentleman someday! Be blessed you two
Shaving Cup in Floral Pattern: Perhaps, as American women began to shave their legs and underarms more (unlike their European counterparts) they also embraced the "new" double edged safety razor design, that still used the soap and brush to lather up skin before the razor was applied.. I know for many years, just after being married in the 1970s my spouse would "borrow" my razor to do her legs before all the lady variants came onto the market. Just a thought. LOL
Loved the strawbridge and clothier at cherry hill mall in NJ. Was on par w www amakers and macys back in the day!!
Cheering you on to 100k!!!! ❤
The giraffe had such a sweet face. 🥳
Yes I so wish that you had purchased that one
Strawbridge & Clothier was a Department store in center city Philadelphia. Same as Wanamaker, Gimbels and Lit Brother. All closed down. The good old days
I think there were Strawbridges stores in Philadelphia. They eventually turned into Macys.
Ruth needs more pottery classes.
😂😂
Congratulations on the beautiful addition to your home- love your positivity ♥️
Super finds!
You ask what you would use a wooden bowl for. Not dog food. Nuts, fruit, catch-all, a collection of something , etc. What would you use a basket for? Same concept: whatever you want.
I cut up a bunch of pallets into slats to make a walkway from the house to the garden shed and the patio area. You could use it to make a compost bin. Vegetable garden bed!!
I understand your thinking of all the wood being reused…prices for wood lately is crazy. I also cut make up/lotion tubes in half to use it all, there is always a lot left. LOL. AGREE, sell the front lights and replace with the new ones. It will be nice to have them all the same. Plus I like the black color on white stone.
Karen is that your engagement ring I see looks so beautiful Roger did so well so happy for you both.
I understand you , 50% off for the giraffe I still don't want to shipping 😁👍👍👍
I’m with you on the trailer full of wood. I’d be saving it for some projects. But I do have all the tools so big difference.
I feel you though. Hard to see useful things end up in the landfill.
How about fb marketplace for the timber? Someone would love it!
Very slow seller
A give-away? So much re-cycle-able timber gets junked, (now there's serendipity, a programme just came my radio, talking to the woman who started the re-use site, freegle, strapline, "Promoting the keeping of usable items out of landfill."!) Thanks for all the re-cycling you already do! :-))
