This song is my grandma and grandpas wedding song. And believe it or not my grandma was Paul's first steel guitar teacher. And to hear him play this I hear her playing. And my grandma actually taught my how to play guitar. And this song was one I had to learn. I was lucky enough to inherit the gibson that she played rythumn with while paul learned this song
I had the pleasure of jamming with Mr.Franklin, back when he was on tour with Mel Tillis and the C.C.Cowboys.He is a true scholar and a gentleman and Amazing player of all styles.
Paul Franklin is in the top of his class as a musician. A superior dynamic on steel with his unique style which stands alone. John E Wobma INDEPENDENT PROMOTION SERVICES LLC Wayland MI
Paul is the master, and the sweetest guy on earth. He produced an album for me in 1987 at acorn sound studios in Hendersonville Tn, which was the musical high light of my life hands down. Love bro Cooley Pope
It shouldn't be a contest between buddy and Paul. Buddy came along first and invented a lot of things and influenced everybody who plays the steel guitar sense. Including Paul Franklin. Paul has come up with his own style of playing. And has furthered the instrument more than just about anybody else.. And we should thank him for that.. One of the great Treasures in I musicians lifetime is to have his own identity and signature sound.
Paul I must say that I am a picker and that version you have is my favorite of all the great musicians I have herd play it. I liked the lean more towards the blues touch you had that was nice. The father of the modern steel Big "E" had a super nice lick with it. thanks for the music.
I kept looking for a smooth pedal steel sound that is better than all the others. I have studied them all, from Buddy Emmons to Robert Randolph. Last nite I discovered Paul Franklin. He is the absolute best and that is saying a lot because the others are good. When he plays unaccompanied, his sound is like a master pianist, that can stzndalone. He plays different genres including jazz and it matches or exceeds the greats of those genres. He is a absolute musical genius. I am a Robett Randolph fan, but Mr. Franklin's skills are purer and exceeds Mr. Randolphs. I am now a fan and a follower. His playing has helped me fing a greater appreciation of my steel and I will strive to be better each day.
With all due respect, this man isn't event that in the same realm as buddy Emmons. Not even remotely close. He's good for modern e9th recording artists but he has nowhere near 5he creative knowledge of buddy. Never will. Buddy did it all with a jazzy flair and such ease. Paul Franklin isn't nearly as talented or good as Buddy.
What's with you? You miss the point of the joy of music. We all can make our own contribution, some will like what we play, some won't. Many of us are inadequate by somebody else's standard. Why do you have to quantify or have some standard by saying some one is better than another.? Sure the BIG E was perhaps the greatest, but I doubt Mr. Franklin would ever dispute or argue the point because he is a gentleman. If Buddy were still around he would find such conversations laughable .They just performed professionally, gave their all for the delight of their fans and the thousands of people who love the steel. Paul is a giant in his own right. Good steel is good steel. That's enough for me!

Listening to the best steel players around never gets old. THANK YOU MR FRANKLIN!!!!!!!!
Thank you for that. His teacher was my grandmother. I love this song and she taught it to me
Who on earth would thumbs down Paul Franklin? ?!
They have to be head bangers ROCK & ROLL . Who else would ?
The thumbs down are maybe people who can only hear Buddy play this.
2 plausible possibilities:
1) One of pauls few life-long rival pedal players
2) Someone hit it by mistake

If there's a pedal steel virtuoso who rivals the great Buddy Emmons, it is Paul Franklin. Paul is the best steel player alive today.
Tommy White.
@@shobud7561 I'd agree, Tommy White is the best.
Don’t forget Mike Johnson.
You're PHENOMENAL Paul!!!!!

With Vance Terry, I rate them the masters - in my humble opinion.
That's not steel music
From Robert Randolph
That's sh#t
Listen to Paul on "Bakersfield" with Vince. No doubt the best pedal steel sound ever recorded IMO. Truly remarkable session guy . mos60

There will never be another Buddy, but to say Paul isn't in the same league is just wrong.
