Very smooth and reliable system with spacious and usually clean stations. Depth of some stations (typical for Eastern Bloc subways) can be annoying at times, but the advantage is that there is usually nice, cold breeze in the stations, even during hot days.
Yes, they were significantly renovated - I think in collaboration with Siemens or something. They look about the same from the outside, but all the internals, motors, electrical equipment, interior design, seat layout... everything got an overhaul about twenty years ago. They also sound a bit different from the original trains and are more energy efficient.
They were pretty much completely renovated already when it was new, because it's piece of very bad russian technology, it was extremely outdated already in time when it was new and it didn't follow Czechoslovak norms, so they had to change almost everything. Soviets forced us to accept their outdated trains, project for developing our own much better trains was sabotated by spies.
hello., czech has the lowest poverty rate among all european countries, one of the least indeebted countries on earth and no muslims at all ! very safe and successful country. i visited czech 3x times and also prague alone 3x !!! amazing !
