I GREW UP IN THE IMPERIAL VALLEY 10 MILES EAST OF HOLTVILLE RIGHT ON THE EAST HIGHLINE CANAL. IT WAS MY SWIMMING POOL. THE SCHOOL BUS WASN'T ALLOWED TO DRIVE DOWN THE DIRT ROAD ALONG THE CANAL FOR SAFTEY REASONS SO WE HAD TO WALK ABOUT ONE MILE TO OUR HOUSE. IT WAS A GREAT LIFE. WE HAD THE DESERT ACCESS THE EAST HIGHLINE AND WE COULD GO EXPLORE EVERY WEEKEND. I NOW LIVE IN THAILAND AND IN A LOT OF WAYS IT REMINDS ME OF IMPERIAL VALLEY. IT VERY HOT EXCEPT FOR THE HUMIDITY AND THE FIELDS OF RICE LOOK VERY SIMILAR TO THE FIELDS OF ALFALFA. THERE ARE LOTS OF LITTLE BROWN PEOPLE AND ALOT OF THEM CAN'T SPEAK ENGLISH. VERY SIMILAR TO THE IMPERIAL VALLEY. LOL
Grew up in east San Diego County. Nicely done. Excellent doc on the valley, finally I've the back story on so many places and events that I had only minimal knowledge of. Thanks
I am doing a presentation on agriculture in the Imperial Valley this week and this really helped me understand the background better. Thank you so much! Great video and very entertaining.
I grew up across the street from the narrator. I loved this documentary, My great grandfather was an engineer on the All American Canal It would be amazing to see the valley in the old days...
I was also born in Calexico, and yes I am also proud of my home town. My first wife is also from Calexico, and my second wife is from Imperial. I have deep roots in the Valley, I never miss a chance to go there.
I drove around the Salton Sea while on a California-Nevada Road Trip a few years back and then learned about its history afterwards. I was expecting Salton City and Bombay Beach to be beautiful resorts, but instead found what looked like the apocalypse. I can't find anything that shows the route of the entire path of the Alamo Canal and River. I tried tracing along the dry Alamo River in Mexico on a map, but it's path seems to just end as I go West. Greetings from Toronto, ON Canada (near homeland of George Chaffey)
Gracias!.
Thank God and to these men that make the valley into what it is now I work here live here and probably will die here what a beautiful place in Valley California
Winchester road or old hwy 395 California , there is an entire community named Winchester, just west of Hemet CA. In case you didnt know! Cool for you . with a very interesting site called "maze rock"possible native american? Rock art? Some info on the web ! In case you are interested. Not everybody knows about these places, but if you are a Winchester you should be informed. And made aware . For name sake!
You completely skipped over Laguna dam? A number of similarities to the Salt River Valley in central Arizona (Phoenix metro), where the Salt and Verde river's join. Mother Nature is not to be trifled with. Half measures and short sighted planning will never do!
Absolutely brilliant. Well done. I am a tour guide and primarily do Hoover Dam tours, this was terrific.

Charles Rockwood and California development company.. caused the Salton sea9:05-12:38
It was more like they couldn’t stop it from forming. The River just went to it’s natural place.
This angers me so much! They should not have done this.
