Nice video but when will people stop slapping their horse as “praise.” She doesn’t appear super sensitive but research shows the are calmer and enjoy a rub or scratch better than slapping. It may seem ok to us but to them not so much.

Michelle, Thank you for your video! I picked up a horse that was extremely resistant to the farrier and I followed your program to a T. Today was the second farrier visit, the first one she scored an F-, but only room to go up from there!!! She was a perfect angel, we were prepared, she knew what to expect and my farrier was so grateful to be able to perform his job easily and safely. Well done!!!

Thank you for this video, it's very helpful and worked well with my horse. I still haven't picked up the hind legs but he was more relaxed with less is more.

I'm trying to adapt different methods to find something that'll work for an abuse case palomino QH mare ex rodeo mount that's been traumatized by bad farrier work.

Thank you for this but What to do if she pick is up front foot , straightens her leg and pulls it down? I tried this and it is not doing anything after 3 days and more than 10 minutes working every time. Thank you!

One important thing trainers seem to leave out of their videos on picking up of horses feet is that assessing first for normal leg and shoulder joint flexibility is important. A horse that has stiff joints due to age or past injury will not be able to flex as well and it may appear to the untrained eye that a horse is being resistant when asked to perform certain leg maneuvers. Stretching a horse's front leg in front of him and extending his back leg all the way out to the back takes normal flexibility and without prior joint supplements given, it may be inducing pain for the animal and therefore difficult for them to comply. Not that they don't want to; just that they can not. Also in Part 2 of this series; notice how far the right shoulder joint and leg on the horse is held out to the side by the farrier having the hoof between his legs. This is asking alot on a joint if a horse is older and in poor condition. Just a few musings to be aware of while training a horse; from an older cowgirl.............

This video wasn't done until after the horse had stopped kicking out, so you're leaving out the most important part. Agree with earlier comment that most horses don't like to be slapped. Many dressage riders slap their horses on the neck at the end of their routines, sometimes really aggressively. They are usually patient and forgiving, but It's hard to watch.

Sorry, you are wrong about that. This horse had not stopped kicking before this video was created. We documented her training as she was learning to pick up her back feet and just let them be held up.

Left hind when you get the foot up get hold of the toe . Control the toe control the horse .

The 'questionable background' as you put it is just an excuse. I doesn't matter what the background was. It matters what you do now.

I think she meant it as a "Being careful because she may react badly so stay safe" not "sneak around her because we don't know"
