    How does this only have 600 views? This is hands down the best tutorial I've seen for making a 3d shape more complex than a straight walled box with FreeCAD! Thank you!

    This "trick" has been used twice now. It is about as smooth as one can find. Nice job Joko. When one first uses this trick, try setting the view Front, Top, Right/Left, Bottom before bringing in the image. It is also useful to have already discovered the aspect ratios between the 2D flat image views so they can be set within FreeCAD (measured height, width, length of the full-size Supra). Use a spreadsheet to capture the critical dimension (for example) and and then add the aspect ratios. It makes scaling the 2D flat images into 3D entities much more controlled. The trick worked best when the 2D flat images were "clipped" to specific critical dimensions of the objects height/width/height.
    Thanks for showing us the trick.

    I just got a suggestion about freecad while searching for truck tutorial for blender and it was your video where I got to know that a free parametric software exists. thanks for making this video. I also learned how to use it.

    I think you could probably do a series of these and they would be well received. Boolean construction methods in FreeCAD.

    Great car choice! I have an 85 Supra myself. Many years ago for a college final project I recreated the MK II Supra Transformer toy in Solidworks. Even articulated like the real thing but It took much longer then 10 minutes to make.

    The problem is many people with poor eye sight loos the pointer.
    You have to stop go back over and over at times.
    The pointer is so small and black it just disappear at times.
    Could you help us with poor eye sight and download/install a bigger and visible pointer.
    Black moving on the screen is hard to follow.

    This very interesting, thank you. Just wondering, is there perhaps a way to make this non-destructive/parametric, in that you could adjust the curves after the fact to refine the shape?
    And how would you go about adding things like the curve of the hood and such/change the flat line intersecting you mentioned?
    My apologies if these questions have obvious answers, I'm just starting out with FreeCAD and these videos are the first I've been looking at, any help is appreciated!

    • @JokoEngineeringhelp
      @JokoEngineeringhelp  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah you can head back into the tree on the left, and double click on the sketches you've made and you can edit the sketch and it will update the model. Does that answer your question?

    • @BN-qo5zc
      @BN-qo5zc 4 роки тому

      @@JokoEngineeringhelp Ah, thank you! I didn't realise it was that simple. The documentation I read indicated there was some form of "setup" required for parametrics, but perhaps I misunderstood.
      Though on the second question, my background is in polygon modelling, where I'd do something like select some vertices on the hood line and just pull them into a shape. Watching your video again, I realise you said the straight lines will always be that shape, so perhaps my question isn't applicable.
      Thank you so much for producing these videos and answering me! Hope you have a wonderful week.

    That was exciting (I know, I don't get out enough). I want to make a mount for a spinning reel and will try importing a picture of the base. Can you scale an image inside FreeCAD, or re-scale a sketch after B-splining? Thanks for a powerful tutorial. [other comments have essentially answered my questions -- thanks!] -- Unfortunately I get a Base Exception error in FreeCAD 0.18.4/Win10/64 when I load an image using your example. After that, nothing renders in window, etc. :-(

      Hi Paul;
      I would either draw a sketch line a certain length in FreeCAD and scale my images to that length to model it at the right size, or I would make the model without scaling and then measure the completed model and use the scale function in the draft workbench to scale the finished produce. Hopefully that helps

    Car body modeling in freecad is a hard challege, due to complexe geometry and organic like shapes. Even in blender its not that easy.

    • @JokoEngineeringhelp

    • @JokoEngineeringhelp
      @JokoEngineeringhelp  2 роки тому

      Yes here is a complete beginner video on FreeCAD use. ua-cam.com/users/results?search_query=freecad+beginner
      You would probably use a loft to get that nice curvy organic windshield you're after. This type of modeling, parametric modeling, used in FreeCAD, SolidWorks, Onshape, fusion 360 to name a few is to specifically make highly dimensioned and well controlled surfaces. You might also want to consider direct modeling like Blender which is a faster modeling approach but not as suited for engineering.

    Great vids man. So is there a way turn a mesh part I made into one of those fancy sketches. Seems I've done it backasswards

    • @JokoEngineeringhelp
      @JokoEngineeringhelp  4 роки тому

      I can think of a few ways depending on your design intent. You can import the meshbody to FreeCAD and trace around it like I have with the image, create your solid, and delete the mesh body when you're done. You can also convert the meshbody to a FreeCAD native format with the part workbench which a partner channel lays out nicely.
      ua-cam.com/video/5lwENZeNiNg/v-deo.html
      That method allows you to edit a 'dumb solid'

    Hey bud great channel.... How would I hollow out the drawing if I want to print it.... And can I resize the car to 3d print

    • @JokoEngineeringhelp
      @JokoEngineeringhelp  4 роки тому

      You can resize using the scale feature which is found on the draft workbench. You can also scale the images you import to the size you want to prevent scaling later. If you'd like to hollow the model out, the thickness command on the part workbench is made for that. You would need smooth edges and a thickness less than the minimum radius of curvature. If you can't get the thickness do deliver what you want, there is a cheater method I sometimes use which does not guarantee a uniform thickness. I use the method to hollow out the mouse I make here:
