I got a question, can you ask the HDR Team if they can slightly increase Luigi's running speed as he's canonically slightly faster than Mario, not slower, I get that it's supposed to be like Melee and all, but Luigi isn't a slow sprinter, Mario is.
4:09 Actually, the first time that move was used was in Brawl, where before the boss fight Ridley drags Samus on the wall for many seconds, until it's stopped by Pikachu's Thunder, selling how brutal Ridley can be as a character (Then he gets defeated by Up-air and N-air spam). Then other Metroid games used that scene as a move because they said "yeah, it makes sense for Ridley to do that".
While it happens in Smash sometimes I think this is actually Smash doing the character right and that helping to reinforce their characterization in the original series, rather than the character being changed by Sakurai. In the manga Ridley is depicted as a brutal, cunning monster who enjoys bloodshed and making others suffer. Him pulling a Broly and dragging someone along a hard, rough surface as he flies at the speed of a jet fighter is perfectly in character for him to do.
Off of these changes it seems like they heavily nerfed ridley, his neutral b is worse, his weight is decreased, his base stats are worse across the board. This is kinda ridiculous.
side b isn't just a reference to metroid, the reference to metroid was originally a reference to super smash brothers brawl, where he does the same thing to samus in his boss intro cutscene. so basically it made its way into metroid through smash and then made its way back into smash through metroid. awesome, fucking love ridley almost as much as i love k. rool. ridley made me ponder getting the game, but the second i saw k. rool's reveal i immediately drove 30 minutes to gamestop and preordered that shit.
Small but important correction: having a lower shorthop is almost exclusively beneficial since it means you can more easily get from using an aerial back into the ground, only exception being cases like mii brawler where it stops aerials from hitting their autocancel window or not letting longer aerials complete ( if you play in high gravity mode dk cant do short hop forward air, for example)
Ridleys fire ball is great. It totally has problems but they could just buff it. I don't consider it a buff if they just completely changed the move. The multi hit is the most nostalgic thing for Ridley. Not salty, just my opinion. Great vid Edit** you can totally use it in neutral too
I love the change in Ridley’s dair. At first i was apprehensive like you but then i remembered his downward up special spikes hard and is one of both the funnest and funniest spikes to hit. Its also made up for with that aerial down special which i will DEFINITELY be going for, that in combination with dair could lead to some really funny pogo setups on opponents and im immensely looking forward to it 😄
What makes his jab is a good reset tool? Literally only Bayonetta's jab is slower than Ridley's. The remaining 86 other characters in the game have a jab that is as good or outright faster/larger/hits better than Ridley's. Okay, 83 characters if you want to remove Samus/Dark Samus and Ganon, but those aren't high bars to clear for jabs
The down aerial of ridley can absolutely be used as an off stage tool: Jumping once off stage and into the down stomp, the move actually stops before you die and you can use your remaining two jumps plus up special to get back to ledge
Imagine being one of the most demanded characters in Smash and right when they add you, they make you mid tier. (Tho I still main him because his animations make him fun af)
They shouldn't nerf any damages or knockback or speed in HDR unless its proven its busted. HDR has tried and is making the mistake PM did, too much melee in mind
I main Ridley, and I gotta say, he's very interesting. In my opinion, he boils down to a high risk high reward character... His Advantage Game is amazing, but his Disadvantage State is very bad. Also, Side Special off Stage is surprisingly deadly, cause Ridley has a weirdly good recovery for how weird his Up Special is.
My main problem with Ridley is that nair is his best move and is very uncool, but these down air and down special changes are half the battle to make him look more like Ridley and the up special change is soooo neeeed
Up Special should be changed even more in my opinion. It should have a 360° range like Fire Fox, while also being slightly maneuverable mid-move like in HDR. I guess that makes it slightly less unique as an Up Special, but it just annoys me that this flying space dragon can only zoom in 4 four directions.
I still think down taunt is pretty weak-sauce. It needs a buff wherein you can infinitely loop it so Ridley can loom over his enemies every waking moment. Only _then_ can Ridley be viable.
Bruh I just started playing with Ridley this character is crazy no one wants to rematch me even if they beat me lmao his side he is nutty and his nair is good

Ultimate Ridley might have the worst dive in the game. This isn't like a projectile where any projectile > no projectile, Ridley's dair was something you'd be better off removing than letting him keep it.
@@echospace7347 It absolutely does not. People who think so usually do not play ridley. "Footstool out of shield." is a meme with it and no ridley uses it in bracket because using a Footstool out of shield into dair with it hits with the sweetspot which spikes. Not the hitbox with an ok-ish kill percent. Also, dair is completely outclassed by Ridley's up b when angled down. It spikes much longer, has a landing hitbox unlike dair, goes diagonally, and has WAYYY less endlag. (Dair's landing lag is 32 frames)
@Krona-fb4dn yeah agreed I've actually thrown out ridley's up b going down in neutral way more than his dair the only time I'll Try to use that move is at ledge if their going to neutral get up.....but even than if you miss you're fkd

@@echospace7347 I already am in the Ridley discord lmao. Stall and Falls are usually good when they get you down quickly and without punishment, and realistically you can punish an opponent who misses their juggle against you with much better moves like bair. That and Creepooba and Smub rarely, if ever, use either moves in bracket cause stall and falls are easily predictable (and thus easily punishable) at beginner levels of smash when taken seriously, let alone professional to top level. Also the original comment was simply stating that his dive is the worst in the game and he would've been a better character if it was anything else, which it definitely true on both claims. Every move has "some" use cases but Ridley's dair definitely ranks very low on that list and is usually only beaten out by outright gimmick moves like falcon punch.

I think he means its 30 frames of end lag. When that’s combined with its tiny hitbox and bad sourspot angle, it can lead to eating a charged f-smash from most characters on wiff and a fast f-smash or tilt even if the opponent gets hit.
I see him as two sides one the cruel monster of death and destruction just like his well known side but ridley is a master military ability with a highly level of intellectual inc inventor creative learning skills understand a wide range of different things all types of sciences, medical, engineering and technologies knowledge on anykind of spacecraft to weaponry etc very powerful in mind and body
Being both a Metroid fan and someone who played a lot of Ridley in Ultimate, his changes in HDR are overall fantastic. His d-air in Ultimate sucks and I hate it, the new one is better and his aerial down-B is essentially his pogo tail stab from the 2D games where he bounces along the platform you fight him on, stabbing down with his tail. It's a strong spike if you hit the sweet spot and lets him mix up his aerial movement since if he hits something with it (even the stage) he bounces back up a bit. I don't think he's quite perfect because I still feel like his Neutral-B is too similar to Mario's fireball and I don't like that his Up-B is just off-brand Firefox rather than something more unique. I think an Up-B which is an upward command grab similar to Captain Falcon, but instead of a powerful launching hit it's an aerial cargo throw where he can briefly move around mid-air and then toss the opponent in one of four directions, would be great. Ridley's been able to grab Samus with his talons and carry her into the air ever since Super Metroid, so giving him an aerial cargo throw (but probably with much less kill power) would make him a lot more unique and faithful.
Im sorry too say this but ridley cant be a playable character. Hes just too big. It dosent seem right for ridley being this small. Hes better off being intense boss fight just like he was in brawl.
