1:08 "Most church ppl actually believe that their maltreatment of ppl is justified." I agree, but this didn't appear out of thin air. I would love a pastor to develop this more, bc the idea of picking up stones to kill sinners didn't come from ppl. As far as I know it came from God. We need a courageous pastor to help us unpack this understanding of God, righteousness, and judgement.

Jesus made the statement “ let him without sin, cast the first stone”, meaning no one has the right to mistreat people because we think we are perfect than them, Christ didn’t condemn anyone

My point is that if Jesus acknowledged the authority of the Old Testament scriptures, and He did, then we have to note that the idea of stoning an adulteress wasn't born in the minds of the Pharisees or any other religious sect of that time. It was prescribed in the OT. That's what my question is about.
@@keneisham8674 this is 2 months later but wanted to respond to your question and statement. Jesus said he came to "fulfill the( old testament Word)". He came to put away the old covenants and begin a new which included and excluded many aspects of the old. This new covenant was explained to us in Hebrew 8-10. Jesus, Peter, James, Paul, and other apostles share what this new covenant consist of in the entirety of the New Testament. The sermon on the Mount( Matthew 5-7) shows us Jesus view of the new covenant. In this sermon he shares that we should love and do good to our neighbor. In other chapters Jesus says the greatest commandment is to love God and our neighbor as ourselves. The stoning punishment was because the Jews were under a covenant where they could enact God's judgement on earth. Jesus came as a fulfillment of the old covenant and now He enacts judgement. That's why we don't stone in the Christian church. Because now the wages of sin is death.

God loves us all but He still gave rules
He gave us all rules, but did not leave the church to be judge, jury, and executioner. This pastor is right. Church people behave as though God is incapable and need THEM to carry out judgement. I left the church for this very reason. The people are way too comfortable ignoring Jesus's example. Too much hatred in their hearts to truly understand God's love and forgiveness
Instead of embracing and showing love they disfellowship

My Sister if we would go by the Bible and thus saith the Lord.. we wouldn't have the people in the church in such a mess. God gave us rules for us to live by not for us to use to condemn others with. You just live your truth and pray for others to get to know God for themselves. Judge not least you be judged. Remember the women caught in adultery, The ones bringing her wanted the rules enforced .. but God stumped down in the dirt where the church people left her, lifted her up said go and sin no more... That is our example... I'm afraid if Jesus was in person today, we church members like those in His day would hate the way He dealt with sinners and not believe He was the son of God, because He didn't reprove like we think He should. We'd be like Jonah.. mad because the sinners got saved... Lord have mercy
