The countries that you mentioned..Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea..those are heavily sanctioned countries. It’s not fair to mention their lack of growth without mentioning the sanctions that are crippling and holding them back.
Very correct. But this video had to do little bit of Western propaganda. In fact it can be argued that ALL socialist countries are very successful countries because despite the crippling and inhumane illegal US regime sanctions they have managed to survive and in many case even do better than the US regime. For example in Cuba the average life expectancy is almost equal to that of the US.
China was once seriosly sanctioned for decades, only because CCP led the country right and made more and more progress that the western countries have to abandon part of the sanctions. Even now China is still being sanctioned by the western countries, the Hight Tech War with US for example.
Their economies would be almost as bad without sanctions. Those countries are built on socialism, which leads to economic failure. Xi Jinping is returning China to the socialist system it had under Mao, and that's one reason it will become another failure like North Korea.
This documentary emphasises democracy as the only way to get ahead. When you have the world's largest population (India) no amount of democracy will be able to educate , feed and find employment for everyone. China got to where it is by planning and implementing and working hard towards a single goal, not by luck. China has been growing at a rapid rate over the last 4 decades and you can't call that " luck."
Agree. My own observation is that so called "China Economic Model" is actually wrong understanding of what China has been doing. China understood their backwardness and limitation and decided to work hard quietly to achieve improvement. China's way is simple. Whichever the system works for China, it would adopt it. Therefore, what they did and have been continue doing is to set reasonable targets, for the whole nation, for the province and even for each department. Everyone is trying to reach such target in time. if there is mistake, it should be immediately recognized and corrected. The important here is the Chinese system has a mechanism to recognize mistakes and apply remedies in a fast manner while the West refuse to admit their own mistakes.
@@twilight6460 Do you realize that Xi Jinping hates the policies of Deng Xiao Ping and is working to eradicate them? He believes in establishing economic policies that allow him to cling to power in the short term even though they will lead to the collapse of the Chinese economy.
One of the reason why China put controls on birth is due to cost of feeding a large population. India seemed strangely 'proud' of their large population. I think India is heading towards a disaster, with the water shortages and food inflations.
He is completely in already except that the Indian government and the West are saying nothing. Not against they have a lot to say about the collapse of China for over 30 years. 😁
The big pollution problem hadn’t solved, in 2019 yr 1,670,000 people died of disease. Grange river is polluted, no fish can survive. Shit and rubbish around hygiene is too bad.
China divides its development strategy into three steps. The first step is to solve the problem of food and clothing for the people; the second step is to bring the people's income to the income level of middle-income countries; the third step is to reach the living standards of developed countries and become a world power. China is now in the stage of moving from the second step to the third step, while India has not yet taken the first step. Therefore, it is unreasonable and unfair to compare India with China. Even Vietnam is one step ahead of India.

I am quoting Jayant because in the comment section of his program, most Indian agree with him and others are person attacking him without any data or evidence to counter his observation. Comparing china and india has no meaning. Because india is not a country. It is just an administrative system created by British. Now it is look like federal , democratic but in reality it is not either federal or democratic. But china is really functioning as federal. It is a country with real one ethnic and linguistics population and it is not just an administrative system created by British to loot. There is no need to complete with china. If india really wants to uplift it's people it must accept the reality that is it is not a nation but a federation of many nations. Without this understanding speaking about development is like having a map without "you are here mark "
@elavarasand Good and very factual comment. India cannot hold. It will soon break up into many smaller countries. Jayant Bhandari an Indian himself said : India will eventually disintegrate into many smaller countries
Funnily enough, that difference has created high competition among states for economic progress and industrialization. Now every state wants better ports, more expressways and higher foreign investments. You will "see" it soon enough. The largest state, the size of Guangdong population, will be nearing 1 Trillion GDP by 2030.
And because America wants the world to believe they are still the Number 1 is the reason with the exchange rate of the dollar. In real terms china is the worldst largest economy and its median per capita income too is on the rise...I bet Science and Technology is the key metric here...No Country has achieved Tier 1 Developed Status except Japan in Asia. Saudi and other Middle East, Singapore and Korea too are categorised as Tier 2 Developed Countries as they lack the Global Appeal and Strength going from Culture to Science and Technology to many more....Japan despite its lack of many mineral resources stands tall in Scientific and Technological Strengths, Cultural Powerhouse and has Military Technologies and has a Good Economic Size. All these factors give Japan and edge..Its Human Resources are very strong..From Olympiads to Olympics to Culture to STEM fields to Humanities research, Japan does it all. Even in Music they are quite good. The Next Best Is China. This was what many were waiting as This,unlike Japan, is a Civilisation and has historically been the Powerful One. China reaching the next stage in scientific and technoligical development along with its Cultural Exports means it has arrived on the Tier 1 Zone. Only Japan, US, Italy, Spain, Germany, UK, France and a few Northern and Souther and Central European states make us Tier 1 Developed Status. Let us not even talk about hese countries social development indicators and entrepreneurial mindsets...Only China came so strong at them. One big significant difference on India and china is about the people's mentality. The Chinese people are very competitive in nature. When ever there is a little opportunity arises the Chinese would grab it to the fullest and improve themselves. That is why many new startups emerged for the past 30 years to take opportunity on the little opening from the government. You have not mentioned the caste equation in India. Majority of influential positions are occupied by the so called higher caste who generally look down upon the vast majority of populace who are lower caste. The coherence in society (among majority hindu population) is fragmented and graded inequalities exist and any attempt to smoothen out that difference is actively discouraged. Almost all the levers of power are controlled by the higher caste who try to agrandise all the power to themselves. Such a situation never existed in china. China was more are less a monolithic country (compared to India), and Modi government did little to smoothen things out. In fact his party has accentuated the differences more and he has exasperated the society further by promoting Hindu vs Muslim, Hindu vs Christian animosity. Indians are always at war (in low key) among themselves, riches are fewer and not distributed evenly. Much of the constituent states of India are several thousand years older than the nation of India, which is the result of colonial rule. This fact has to be recognized and respected. Trying to govern India as an unitary state increase the fissure. Languages, religion, customs, vary between state to state and has to be respected. Formation of United States of India, could help and unitary india may lead to fragmentation.
India keeps saying it's the 5th largest GDP and the 2nd populous. But it's ranking is 127 in the world terms of GDP/capita behind Laos and bankrupt Sri Lanka (107) and many African countries. Please compare India with Sri Lanka or war torn Iraq(115), Lebanon (114).
There are a few roadblocks for India. Some are covered by the video, some are not. The ones that wasn't covered are: 1. many have less tolerance against different castes, religions, ethnics, gender, etc.. which cause bouts of sectarian violence (religious and ethnic) and is one the main factors of instability that lessen global businesses desire to invest much in India; 2. pollution - India is heavily polluted even without heavily industrialization somehow. Although India do have a lot of young people, such pollutions would shorten their lives and increase their medical burdens which then limit their potential in the long term; 3. lack of solid industrial base - which ties into the quality of its infrastructure building as well as quality/reliability of goods coming out of India; 4. same tech bottleneck that China is experiencing in semiconductors. Can India continuously rely on the West for high-tech goods indefinitely? 5. Political red tape & rules of law - being the largest democracy also have its political downsides and without a solid rule of law like most western democracies, rampant corruptions, backward justice system, very slow social improvements, etc. will heavily impede India's prospects in the long term; If Indian can at least mitigate the negatives of these and the ones mentioned in the video to a certain extent (say 50%), then it has a chance to catch up to China in this century.
China seems to have solved the tech bottleneck, as shown by the newest SMIC, YMTC, HiSilicon & Loongson chips. China is no more than 2 or 3 years behind the state of the art, and catching up very fast. This is what happens when you have a huge population that is well educated and highly technical, producing more scientists, technicians, engineers, and mechanics than any other country.

If India is to surpass China, it will have to surpass the US as well (assuming China surpasses the US first which has been a certainty to most of economists.). What do you think the US will do to India to hold it back as has done to China?
The US attempted color revolutions in China (1989), supported Muslim terrorists in Xinjiang, attempted color revolution in Hong Kong (2019-2020), and continues to support Tibetan government in exile, along with separatist government in Taiwan province. If we look at the equivalent for India, that would be supporting independent Muslim Jammu, Kashir, & Ladakh; Sikh Khalistan; independent Sikkim; "human rights" for untouchables; and other breakaways along India's borders. The ultimate goal is constant domestic unrest, culminating in another Indian Civil War that allows the US to intervene militarily under a binding UN resolution. Ironically, if broken apart, India would almost certainly do better as a loose Confederation of small states.
India will never surpass China. Not for a thousand years. Unless they tweak the figures and publish fake news on how successful and advance India is; how abt creating an Indian Huawei for a start, assuming India have already built enough public toilets for 1.4 billion ppl?
In that case, US will let India grow. Because, it will be net positive counter to China. And many countries in the democratic camp will sign security agreements with India than US as well.

I really like the fact that Westerners and Indians always compare the economy of the mouse to that of the elephant. While there are animals much closer to the mouse, such as the hamster (Pakistan), the marmot (Bangladesh), a rat (Vietnam), a guinea pig (Afghanistan). But no, they compare the incomparable India (the mouse) to the economy of the elephant (China).
India is very big and populous. So it is like a swarm of mice. The mice think the elephant will be scared of it because the mice are so mighty. Actually the elephant just wants to avoid stepping on them because it's an icky feeling.

The video creator clearly doesn't understand China's development model. "Authoritarian success" is a Western narrative that sidelines the essential formula for economic success. The reality is, China based their power of collective resolve, policies, and reforms. Their economy is best described as state free market capitalism coupled with socialism in development, it is technically an overall mixed economy which is the fundamental formula for it's dynamic success. China's development model is incomparible to that of other socialist countries. To compare that China will somehow collapse/fail just because other countries did because they're "authoritarian" is absolutely vacuous and flawed at best. Freedom is derivative from it's foundation. For example, if you want to live in a country free of crimes and drugs - you need laws, education, and policies to prevent them from proliferating.
Nope, they will have to reluctantly allow, as with India on its side US gets a heavy strategic advantage over China considering the geography and naval supply lines.

Communication and management, India has too many languages and is too complicated. Each state may have different laws. This has also caused doubts among foreign investors and greatly increased investment costs. They need to understand the laws and labor costs of different states. too high

He made the remarks at a launch of the publication in Beijing last Friday. The event was organised by the IMF Resident Representative Office in China and the International Monetary Institute at the Renmin University of China. By comparison, the United States is forecast to contribute 0.3 percentage point while India’s contribution might be 0.5 percentage point, Barnett told China Daily on the sidelines of the event. On 2024, China is forecast to contribute 0.8 percentage point of the 2.9% global growth, just under one-third and still higher than 0.2 percentage point of the United States and 0.5 percentage point of India, he said. The WEO, published lastTuesday, has lowered the 2023 economic growth forecast for China to 5% from 5.2%, citing the pressures brought by the weakness in the real estate sector

Which meant 60% higher than Indian. Average IQ for both countries comparison. Chinese 104, India 76 Women in workforce: China 61%, India 23% Education ranking in the world: China at 22. India at 32.

China is Meritocratic NOT Autocratic! There is big difference between the two! And India will never surpass China, unless it goes through its own socialist revolution, which I dont see happening any time soon
The workforce problem of India is, once young people got educated, they will move to countries like US and Canada, while many Chinese young students are blocked by those countries’ strict immigration policies and they will have to go back to China. That’s how Americans help!
China today is a result of a few thousand years of continuoss civilization. It has not happened over the last few decades. Even the Mongols who come from a nomadic culture settled in China when they experience the quality and sophistication of the Chinese culture. China has a long history of gathering experience in managing and looking after a large population. If this is not the case their population would not have grown to this scale. China wasn't waiting for Carl Marks to save them or for that matter democracy especially introduced to them from the west when all can see it is not even skin deep and has become a meaningless word not even a fig leaf. I don't think India can manage to rise as China has bcs Britain introduced the divide and rule policy "democracy" and abolished their ruling system which has been evolving over a few thousand years. Noteworthy to say Churchill past away still not believing that Gandi wasn't being given food, secretly, while he was on his hunger strike! It is worth noting China and India two great civilization over five thousand years bordering each other never waged war against each other but the contrary they cooperated. But in the present "democracy" in India means India is worried about China and not about America who has been dropping bombs in Asia as if its running out of fashion. Whilst China is only worried about America building a base on its border in India overlooking China.
The big stumbling blocks to India's rapid progress are religious fanaticism,, burgeoning population, corrupt short sighted politicians who instead of addressing these problems tries to take advantage of it by making lop sided laws to create votebanks and encouraging mai-baap sarkar where politicians give themselves powers to grant or withhold favours. The Judiciary where the individuals are interested in grandstanding rather than address speedy justice.
China already become developed country (china doesn't admit it), India still developing country. India has a more poor peoples,bad working culture,bad goverment policy for business,etc. Still long way to catch up china.
The problem is India dosent have jobs in urban areas and thats is hampering rapid urbanization. We have massive unemployment problem. So even if government stop rural welfare schems they will not be able to move into urban areas
You just humiliated the Soviet Union. There is no comparison possible. The USSR is not the vassal of the USA, in addition it faced America and surpassed it in space, weapons and nuclear power. While India absolutely does not outperform any of the poor neighboring countries.
@@thecomment9489 This video is obviously Pro- India !
@@thecomment9489 true. Cuba in spite of 60 years of sanctions is doing better than nearby Haiti which is "protected and helped" by the US.

Chinese people are the most diligent people in the world. Even if they encounter difficulties, they will stand up quickly.
There are a few roadblocks for India. Some are covered by the video, some are not. The ones that wasn't covered are:
1. many have less tolerance against different castes, religions, ethnics, gender, etc.. which cause bouts of sectarian violence (religious and ethnic) and is one the main factors of instability that lessen global businesses desire to invest much in India;
2. pollution - India is heavily polluted even without heavily industrialization somehow. Although India do have a lot of young people, such pollutions would shorten their lives and increase their medical burdens which then limit their potential in the long term;
3. lack of solid industrial base - which ties into the quality of its infrastructure building as well as quality/reliability of goods coming out of India;
4. same tech bottleneck that China is experiencing in semiconductors. Can India continuously rely on the West for high-tech goods indefinitely?
5. Political red tape & rules of law - being the largest democracy also have its political downsides and without a solid rule of law like most western democracies, rampant corruptions, backward justice system, very slow social improvements, etc. will heavily impede India's prospects in the long term;
If Indian can at least mitigate the negatives of these and the ones mentioned in the video to a certain extent (say 50%), then it has a chance to catch up to China in this century.

So you think India can develop while fighting with the world's most powerful industrial country that is China ?
China provides countless semifinished parts, raw materials, for India's manufacturing sectors and reasonable priced machinery for their factories.
Don't forget, India benefits from US-China, otherwise there is nothing attractive to foreign investments.
US, Japan, EU rather put their money in Vietnam, Thailand, and other ASEAN nations.
After reading the comments, I think India needs first a cultural Revolution... or maybe become a loose confederation of different states and then, maybe only then, India can start to compare itself to China xd
Also it needs to become a really sovereign state and leave its colonial mindset in the past.
Right
During the Qin Shi Huang period more than 2,000 years ago, China achieved the goal of having cars on the same track and books on the same text. Although it was considered a tyranny at the time, it seems to be correct in the long run. All Chinese people can speak Chinese and understand Chinese characters, which is more convenient. Communication and management, India has too many languages and is too complicated. Each state may have different laws. This has also caused doubts among foreign investors and greatly increased investment costs. They need to understand the laws and labor costs of different states. too high

Native Americans are called Red Indians and not Red Chinese because of this reason. Nobody cared about China. It was just a country that existed East of India.
Chinese were mostly rice farmers for most of history. They have no influence on the world.
But Indian wealth, philosophy, culture, civilization is world renowned. From Central Asia to India to South East Asia to China to Japan and Korean, Indian culture influenced everyone. This is why even the Chinese study Buddha.
