Wood turning and woodworking. Sharing and learning from the UA-cam community. Enjoying my time in the shop and showing some of my projects. Hope you enjoy my videos! As always thank you all! Started this channel to share with my family and friends, and I am humbled by the continued support and subscribers I receive. THANK YOU!!
So you went from a central machinery to a phreaking Bauer! get a real Lathe or get off of you tube! you are wasting everyone's time
@@maintman9297 everyone has their opinion
I turned patterns for castings on a shop built lathe that was made from large timbers. Had babbit bearings and flat belt drivel. The lathe does not do anything but spin the wood. Years ago we did not have the fancy lathes we have today.
@ I agree
If you can not turn you can have the fanciest lathe and still produce junk.
I'm not going to say to you what I would like to say maintman 🤨
@ not worth it
Thank you
I still have my harbor freight 10x18. I love it. I call it my little sweetheart. I love your videos. Keep them coming
Thank you so much! I appreciate you and your kind words 👍
Congratulations on the new lathe. It looks solid, I'm envious 😊
@@mclas11 Thank you! Don’t be envious 😊
I've had my Bauer lathe for about 7 months. It's what I'm learning on and I don't believe I will ever "out grow it".
@@davebenedum9253 thank you and lots of luck
Great review of this very capable lathe, Luie! Harbor Freight has really stepped up their game the last couple of years. I think you will find this lathe to be a pleasure to use for years to come! 😀
Phil
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop thanks Phil! So far it’s been pretty great! Hopefully she will serve me as well as my old one👍
Nice lathe, Luie. I believe you will be happy with it. I had a Central Machine just like yours for many years then finally got one with a reverse and found that to be a wonderful feature. Can't wait to see it in action now. Keep on, keeping on!
@@OzarkArtsandCrafts thanks 👍👍
Congratulations, my friend. I hope it’s as good as late as it seems to be and that you enjoy it. Looking forward to see what you turn on this. 😎😁😎

@@RubenWoodcraft thank you! I am looking forward to using it 👍
Nice looking lathe! I got a Laguna Midi lathe a few months back and really enjoy the variable speed and reverse functions. Look forward to seeing some of your turning projects you make on it.
@@fouroakscrafts7240 Thank you so much for your support and kind words 👍
Hi Louis, I also just bought this lathe, after looking for reviews all over UA-cam, I noticed this same lathe with a different color paint several times, check out the Artisan, 2 years ago they were asking $999.95 and it is the exact same lathe. For the money especially hard earned money, this is a very nice lathe, Thanks for the review!
@@rogerkehl9670 yes I have seen other brands that look exactly the same not only this lathe but others also 👍 thanks for your support and kind
I noticed that craft supply was selling this same lathe with their name on it. It looked like the only difference was the warranty. HF only gives a 90 day warranty (?) did you buy a longer warranty or is it available?
@@jefferychapin5759 they do offer a longer warranty for sale but I didn’t get it
Looks like a nice kit sir

Really nice. Its something I would consider if I ever upgrade my lathe. Sold here in the UK as a Charnwood 1420 by the looks of it.

Hi Luie, A new lathe 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁.
It looks a really nice lathe.
When I had my first lathe with variable speed it was a game changer for me, so much easier.
The alignment straight out of the box is excellent.
Looking forward to seeing you use it in anger.
Take care Luie and Happy New Year to you and your family my friend.
Cheers, Huw

Hey Louie,
I like the new lathe. I been looking at getting a new one myself. I haven't decide on one yet. I'll be watching to see what great projects you turn on your new toy. Make something assume.✌
@@davidbrousseau4591 thank you for your support and kind words and I wish you luck in your search 👍
You did a really good and informative review. I really appreciate that. I am hoping that I will be able to get this lathe at some point. I have a Central Machinery lathe now and have done a lot of turning on it. Great starter but no reverse or variable speed. Got to start saving up for this one.. I have subscribed and I look forward to see some of your projects.
@@usmc6243 Thank you
It really is a great upgrade from the central. I don’t think I will ever get rid of my green central lathe.
Thanks again for the sub and comment and I hope to post something early this week 👍
Impressive lathe Luie, it looks very sturdy and I hope you get a lot of good turning projects out of it, one thing I notice is that you may have to get an extension because the tailstock gets in the way of lathe tools! Enjoy it and looking forward to seeing some projects, thanks!
Cheers Al
@@AlanHanson-i9z I heard that the jet extension fits it like a glove?
Thanks for your support 👍
Looks nice, I had no idea they had one. $600 not bad. I already have a 36 inch variable. One of the tools I rarely use. The last time was about 2 years ago. Chair legs. Might use it on the baby crib I started on. Oh one thing I do use it for , a drum sander. Lathe some wood, apply sand paper and build a table to place under the spindle. Turn her on and push the wood through. Works great on table tops , things like that. In my case up to 36 inches
@@joek511 Thank you for your support and your kind words! Good luck with your baby crib👍
Nice lathe brother, good move on the stand.
@@GRIZZ357 thanks! Appreciate you 👍
Hi Luie looks nice l went through three lathes and happy with my final one but you never know there is all ways some other bright and shinny one out there looking forward to some great projects you make
@@JohnLockwood-c1o Thank you!
I know what you mean, if I was able I would have many lathes 👍 Thank you for your support
Nice to see you again Luie! I hope this new lathe turns out to be a good upgrade for you! Having reverse and the infinite variable speed is really nice compared to the Reeves drive on your old lathe.
@@STMwoodturning yes agreed 👍 Thank you for your support and kind words
Seems like a pretty decent machine for the money. You really should consider joining the New Jersey WOOD TURNERS..
@@BobAmarant hey Bob.
Yeah I could probably benefit from a club like that 👍
Any interest in it? Does a bear ++++in the woods?
Yes I do...it is a lathe and it is coming from Spindles Workshop. Thats plenty of interest for me!
You covered everything in this review and it will be helpful for many.
I like the Bauer brand that HF is selling now. I almost bought the right angle cordless drill but we were already using Dewalt batteries for other things so I went with Dewalt.
Looking forward to seeing the lathe in action.
Gary
@@ThePapa1947 Thank you Gary! It seems to be a fine machine. Hoping for the best
@@spindlesworkshop9744 also very hand if you doing a segmented turning. That can tie up your lathe for turning something else. Saw some of the reviews you watching and it looks like a fine lathe. Can't wait to see what you do on yours.

Morning all. I understand the low speed is used to apply finishes. The reverse, do you simply sand the opposite direction? Do you also turn reverse as well? Please advise a newbie. And the indexes, just a spindle lock spot?
@@rogerdenney3663 no you really can’t turn in reverse (unless you work from back of lathe) but I say no do not turn in reverse.
Yes indexing are equally spaced locking positions on the head so it can help you calculate designs on your piece.
@@rogerdenney3663 Thank you for your visit
Seemed a little loud and I thought I heard bearing rub at slow speed. I don't like the placement of the speed on the right because you have to look away from the spinning project to adjust speeds and read the speed. I also like the controls and on-off on the drive on the left. More convenient. I have a Bauer chuck that I got for $99 and it works very well. I almost use it more than my Nova. Not a bad price on the lathe if it works well. Time will tell. As they always say, don't blame the tool, blame the user so if you have good skills you can make it work.
@@HRConsultant_Jeff Thank you
Yes when I watched the video it does seem like it’s making a funny noise
