Cool I’m glad that you can see what you’re doing but no one else.

You likely just don't know how to tie a figure 8 knot. Learn it first and then come back to see what you can do with a dangling working end

What is the benefit of doing a Yosemite finish?

It creates a cleaner profile at the top of the knot. I find it a nice way to handle a tail that ends up a touch to long. Otherwise I just prefer ending up with 6 inches on a snug knot.

Instead of dressing it up and pulling it all the way through, I like to leave a little gap so after a fall when the knot cinches down, you have a handle to pull that tail end out. Once it's out, you have a little less tension on the knot and makes it easier to untie.

This finish keeps the tail end of the rope out of the way when leading. It prevents you from accidentally grabbing the tail end when trying to clip protection. This can also be prevented by tying the figure eight follow through with a minimal amount of tail (about four to six inches).

you didn't keep the rope on the same side of the figure 8 when you were threading it through...

I didn't, and while that might make the knot look a little prettier it doesn't effect the strength or security of the knot.
