Her dad looks so overwhelmed. He probably wants to hug her and has missed her all those years but he's a stranger to her. I hope the girls stay in touch and Esther can rebuild a relationship with her biological father.

Agreed, and how difficult it must be for the sister in China to know her sister was kidnapped but lives well in America compared to her own life in China. And in reverse Esther probably feels lucky that, although she was forcibly kidnapped, she ended up in America living more comfortably than her birth family. I hope they stay in touch too.

I agree! Laws are supposed to help the people, not to destroy them! When people in authority are evil, the decisions they make show it. Now they have a lack of women and have to find wives in other countries. The authorities played to be "god" but are not intelligent.

This is so sad. I’m glad the daughter had good family and a nice upbringing. But I feel so bad for her biological family. They were truly robbed of having her. You could see in the mother’s face she was really upset but glad at the same time that she was praying while her daughter was gone she would be in a safe and loving environment. @@robertlee6338 It also can NOT be understated how dangerous it was for baby girls in China during this period, and not just from traffickers. Now I am not saying this family were a danger (though it seems the twins had older siblings which means they were already on a Chinese watchlist), but there is a reason why China is having a huge gender imbalance issue at this time. And of course since I am dealing with North Americans here, I have to put up a disclaimer than I am not supporting selling or trafficking babies.

I understand about China's one child policy, and its purpose. But, this was a case of twins, a natural pregnancy (not IVF etc.), &, it was a terrible injustice to split up the birth family. As the stealing of the child by the state occured in the last 20 years or so, China should apologise to the birth family; &, China should pay the birth family, compensation for resulting emotional suffering, and lost relationships. May the birth parents and birth sister get the opportunity to really know their child/ daughter; &, vice versa.

As a long lost twin also sold into the adoption industry, we deserve and demand justice for what was stolen from us. 25 years without my twin that we will never be able to get back. And the future only hold more obstacles created by language, culture, and geographical barriers. You do not have the right to have a child, it's children's rights we should be more concerned over.)

What a weird situation.. its like she knows she was stolen but at the same time was likely raised by a loving family that didn't know this... I can't imagine knowing you were taken from your real parents by force but now spent all of your life with another family..

so, anyone who adopts from China could be taking a stolen child. I always wondered about that and thought that it must be true because it seemed unlikely that many chinese mothers would give up their child willingly.

Having watched other stories on the one child families. I see now that it was an easy way for loc government officials or even local governments employees to make extra cash.
They found a family that had more than one child, took it and then ransom the child back. If the family could pay the child was given back for a shot time and then taken again until they were bled dry and then the child was put into the adoption machine.
That way they could look like they were doing there job make a little extra and then putting them in to the adoption system the higher up got their money from the fees.
You see those adoption fees never trickled down to the local people that’s why they basically extorted money. The local government had no intention of letting the family keep the child but that didn’t mean they could get a little something out of it either.

There is some interesting sociology behind white Americans adopting Asian children, and several facets of pain. We see the biological family's pain here, thanks to shitty government policies. On the US side, there are many black and brown babies in desperate need of adoption, but who are passed over due to cultural stereotypes. There have been fascinating studies done to investigate the phenomenon of white families preferring to adopt children from Asia instead of black and brown babies in the US due to implicit bias based on racial stereotypes. It's sad but is also a good illustration of what modern racism in the US looks like - it tends to be based on well-meaning ignorance, not outright hate.

People don't talk about it much anymore because it is a 40 year-old policy. It was meant to restrict China's population growth. The unintended effects were abortions, illegal adoptions, and infanticide of female babies. Chinese families prefer male heirs. Now there are more males than females and this may mean more bachelors won't have families to take care of them when they reach old age.

Men from local government took one of the twins...
Huh... to respect the person who made this video I did some research. The people who were involved eventually pleaded guilty in court. This is a very sad case about how some bad people used their authority to make dirty money with criminals. Things like that could happen anywhere in the world from any sort of government systems. Google it and you ll see.
So here’s how it was in a normal-ppl-daily-life situation:
First, they didn’t take children. They fined people. Question, if you DO NOT want a child and there is a deal "20k cash or a child", you tell me what you end up picking with your natural humanity. Of course, some of them fined ppl like those nasty cops who ticketed you for not fully stopping at the stop sign with no cars and ppl around.
Second, the families wouldn’t be authorized to have the child’s identity card until the fine was payed off. Depending on where the area was it might impact on the child’s education in this case. Also they wouldn’t be able to be qualified for the One Child Police benefits(it’s like subsidies).
Third, I’m 30. I have siblings. Some of my classmates from the schools I grew up with have siblings. My uncle from countryside has three children. The most amount of siblings I’ve seen a person has in school is four...
Fourth, twins didn’t count in One Child Policy.
The policy itself was not fair to individuals but judging without seeing the entire picture is not fair to the truth.
BTW, to the cow-leg-counting-situation person, I'm glad that your cow has all of the legs together. So, you allow ppl to believe something like Canadian rides polar bear or the earth is flat, but you don’t allow ppl to believe cow has only three legs. Also, have you realized how stupid and insulting this cow-leg example is (because what kind of normal people would believe in something that clearly doesn’t make sense. I would totally be able to come up with a better and fair example if I were you). Anyways, I’m very sorry for the environment that grew you up and made you buy whatever UA-cam sells you. Right now I’m reading your comments and you just sound exactly like one of the three-leg-cow believers that you imaged.
    Come on, people, think!
