Dear Ron MacLean. Dear Coachs Corner. Im writing in order for someone to explain to my niece the distinction between these mandatory pre-game group rites of submission and the rallies at Nuremburg. Specifically the function the ritual serves in conjunction with what everybody knows is in the end a kids game. Im just appealing to your sense of fair play when I say shes puzzled by the incessant pressure for her to not defy the collective will, and yellow ribboned lapels, as the soldiers inexplicably rappel down from the arena rafters (which, if not so insane, would be grounds for screaming laughter). Dear Ron MacLean, I wouldnt bother with these questions if I didnt sense some spiritual connection. We may not be the same but its not like were from different planets: we both love this game so much we can hardly fucking stand it. Alberta-born and prairie-raised. Seems like there aint a sheet of ice north of Fargo I aint played. From Penhold to the Gatineau, every fond memory of childhood that I know is somehow connected to the culture of this game. I cant just let it go. But I guess it comes down to what kind of world you want to live in, and if diversity is disagreement, and disagreement is treason, well dont be surprised if we find ourselves reaping a strange and bitter fruit that sad old man beside you keeps feeding to young minds as virtue. It takes a village to raise a child but just a flag to raze the children until theyre nothing more than ballast for fulfilling a madmans dream of a paradise where complexity is reduced to black and white. How do I protect her from this cult of death?
Don Cherry just got fired. Great day for Canada!
This song was 10 years ahead time, felt like being a head by a century come to think of it.
wooooo
HELL YEA
Hear, hear
Don Cherry only got fired because he advocated wearing poppies for Remembrance Day. He's a Canadian hero!
unbelievable... can't wait for the whole album and to see them in Brisbane this coming friday the 13th!!! First time in 12 years to Aus...
Hi.
I've had this song in my head for about 5 straight hockey games now.
Is the song still in your head?
It's a close toss-up between this song and "Today's Empires, Tomorrow's Ashes" for my top Propagandhi song ever. Oh, and Anti-Manifesto......and Purina Hall of Fame....and....nevermind, everything these guys do is pretty much excellent.
Saw them in Philly last Saturday... best Punk rock show I've been to in 10 years no joke... F'n awesome
Still the best show?
Yeah, this song is amazing. The beginning rips, then its so catchy and just a heart felt between Chris and Ron, (and Don, but he wouldn't listen anyway).
first song ive listened to by this band. I feel like ive been missing out this entire time. Great band! You can definitely see how this band influenced protest the hero, especially rody walkers vocal style
Rad that you've discovered them, great band. Check out the albums Less Talk More Rock and Today's Empires Tomorrow Ashes. Fooking amazing.
yes you have been missing out. for a long time
Your first song by this band?!Yeah bro you are diffinently missing out out on some good punk music.I suggest you start ftom their first album then go from there.Ever album and every song is amazing.Never wrote a bad album.Trust me...listen or buy every album they wrote.Wont be disappointed.
hah my band tried to play this, god damn i remember how my fingers bled
I can't wait to see them play this again. I was the first person to stage dive at the Atlanta show. Plus playing hockey growing up, and being an Anarchist this song makes so much sense
Can they open with this on Saturday ?? Very relevant.
@tprimex2000 How to clean is how many years old now? Bands grow, Hannah's voice progressed a lot. Similar growth can be seen with Russ Rankin (Good Riddance).
Propagandhi is the best.
Great Song. These guys are the best punk rock band in the world today. Every album's been great so far and this sounds like another step forward. Musically and lyrically profound.
The lead singer has been the same on all their albums (the Glen Lambert thing was a joke). But yeah, they have changed their sound a lot since their first album.
that the 2nd guitarist ??? if so yeah i think ur right
was during potemptkin cuz we see him play speculative fiction in many shows on youtube
this whole album is nothing but gold.
Great writing as usual from Prop. Excited for this release.
Donated 10$ and got the other two singles, wish this was one of the downloads so I could get a high quality version of it already. Love this song.
I love this song so much! Saw propagandhi in Philadelphia
no chris is just alot older thats all, and the new guitarist is exploring more, if you watch interviews they want to become a much more progressive and thrash sound
hahhhaha a read an early album review where they said that the song was "against:" Ron McLean :P Talk about not having a clue!
Best album of 2009 so far!
Still.
i think this song is hard to understand but when you take the time to listen to it carefully, you will notice that its a brilliant song.
@RunningP123456 except its not propaganda, it's chris's genuine heartfelt feelings on things and their songs are actually written from a kind of understanding and humble perspective.
THE BEST PUNK BAND EVER. And the drummer is from my hometown!
I live in Winnipeg and when they played here Chris came out and played the whole show in a Ronald McDonald costume. IT WAS SO EPIC.
Hi, friend.
This is a song about peace. No matter how proud you are of your "service" you cannot be in your right mind if you don't agree with that.
a grand song from a very grand album!
What music do you like?
@OobzDCXCII: Chris wrote this song first because he was at a junior hockey game with his niece and during the time out between 2 periods, and soldiers fuckin "as the soldiers inexplicably rappel down from the arena rafters (which, if not so insane, would be grounds for screaming laughter)." And he left the game. The Conservatard-Fascist Party of Canada of Stephen Harper allows things like this to happen, pushing their agenda through a medium/culture shared by almost all Canadians, a really sneaky way to lay down the ground for a not-so-distant Fascist state to appear in Canada if we don't manage to push Harper away from power in 2015. That's if he allows elections at all. They just messed with electoral laws removing powers from Elections Canada cos they are afraid of how much people hate them. And that visit to buttkiss Israel ? What the fuck was that?
Saw these guys last night. Brilliant show.
that guitar intro just got my ears bleed with awesome
Phenemonal punk group. They really made something special. Metal as fuck, too.
This song makes my life.
They are the best now in my eyes
such a great song with meaningful lyrics
i have this song as number 1 on my work out music list
is this record taken from the radio? If so, could you tell me from which radio station it's taken?
thnk's
these lyrics are more like a fuckin puzzle than deep, bands like br and a wilhelm scream have deep meanings n shiet that sometimes are hard to comprehend but propagandhi just boggles my mind, they fuckin rock tho, best thing that ever came out of manitoba excluding the jets
Best band! Hands down!
Ain't a sheet of ice north of Fargo I ain't played, son.
this song is the fuckin shit..coaches corner and propaghandi all in one
Yes, I wasn't sure whether to use that word there, but I didn't know any better words for it. It was a symbolism then, for lack of a better word.
Are you done nitpicking my english yet?
it's 4 now
Thank you so much for the upload, very appreciated. Nice to get a little taste...
is it new album ?
It's actually just comparing the similarities, and how war is just a game to us...
Trigger Warning No
I couldnt have said it any better myself, Kudos pal
LETS TALK ABOUT THE TROOPS!
great song, tnx a lot for sharing!
This song is a masterpiece, just saying.
SOMEHOW CONNECTED!
great fucking song indeed!
why are they calling out Ron McLean though? isn't Don Cherry the one who always talks about the troops?
Can you guys release an official video next time... IDK if I even have ever seen an offical prop vid
besides maybe a cd dvd on empires? not sure
Maxx Totten Probably because Music Videos A) Suck Balls. B) Are nonsense and have nothing to do with Propagandhi ... Go look to a 'Boy Band" for tiger-beat videos... idiots...
Maxx Totten
Lmao at this Todd guy, angsty much? While music videos aren't necessary they are cool to watch sometimes. But what do I know only boy bands make videos lol
I enjoy music videos because in many cases it adds an extra layer to the message of the original song. Especially if the band has their hands in production.
Didn't Habs fans boo the star spangled banned last year in the playoffs.
LOVE PROPAGANDHI .... TNX FOR THE POST, MATE :)
they are the same crew since the bass man went away to do the weakerthans
i have to give ron mclean credit for not going apeshit on don cherry after how many years of doing this with him
Hockey night in canada, we're talking about saving the world and all that stuff!
That's the whole idea behind december the 25th.
Let's talk about some good guys, let's talk about the troops.
(he got fired for saying "you people" something about the troops and november 11th)
PRAIRIE RAISED
This song blew my mind!!! So profpund
best rock band on earth
I got a copy from a friend last week. Yeah guys, it kicks the living shit out of everything you've ever heard and that they've ever done.
Oh And About Rippin' Some Fucking Rock And Fuckin' Roll!
lol i love don cherry and ron mclean at the beginning
let's talk aboot the troops!
One of the most uplifting tunes i've ever heard! fucking love it! saw these guys in Edinburgh a few years ago and it was pretty much the best gig I've ever been to.
Propigandhi rocks like no other!
Thanks for your explanation. That makes me understand the song quite a bit more, haha.
The best band in the world.
LMFAO why the hell did they censor "from" in "down from the arena rafters"
You are joking? He shows his contempt for the enviroment and other people at the clip at the start.
Finally someone who knows what they are talking about on here..
I like your style. How bout some BSF to that.
Yeah Mike!
Yeah, Ron's actually a really decent guy. He's gotta look out for Don, he's getting pretty senile these days.
Lol.
The most honest thing anyone ever said to me. Shame how it all turned out.
AWESOME!
Hell ya, brother!
To non-Canadians:
Ron MacLean is one of the co-hosts of Hockey Night in Canada. The other co-host (Don Cherry) is a "larger than life" big mouth who occasionally makes xenophobic or other offensive comments. Oh, did I mention that this programme is on the CBC which is paid fully by tax dollars?
Recently, HNIC has been having "Support the Troops" rallies during hockey games which are thinly masked pro-war rallies. Its sad because Hockey Night in Canada is a large part of canadian culture.
@Kuabla nailed it, the frustration lies with the rally the troops rhetoric, and conservatism that permeates into the broadcast of a sport, specifically the broadcasts of a federally funded network. CBC does have a liberal spin in much of their news coverage, and while I prefer that to right-wing spin, spin is still spin, and federally funded broadcast corporations shouldn't be spinning anything, just deliver facts, and hockey.
I can agree with that!
THIS GAME
The "Fucking Idiot" makes this comment pure gold.
yeah. i think sports like American/Canadian Football and Ice Hockey have always been associated with a more conservative audience. They have a sort of rural/small town following. Basketball, for example, is more of an urban sport and thus, may not be as conservative. Social class works differently in America anyway. Over there you are accepted in the upper class as soon as you get rich. Here, class is based on your lineage as well as your wealth.
so fucking best song the ( LOL )
when they came to my town they opened with this song. I lost my shit haha.
we may not be the same, but its not like were from different fucking planets :D
@CharlieTheGuy100 Cool?
Agreed except I'm from B.C.
great punk band
if you seen it live you wouldnt say that...
im proud to be a canadian.
I was about to ask why the hell they censored "fuck" then I saw it came from the radio.
More modern punk is based on fast tempos, listen to hardcore from the 80's, which is where our version of punk came from.
It's cause it was ripped from the radio, yo.
oh yes its called Punk Rock how did i forget that...lol
i don't know why i like a song about hockey so much
ok first off.. RADIO? CENSORED?? ANNOUNCER??? O..M..G!!!
@Kuabla Agreed. I shouldn't have to be indoctrinated, while I'm being indoctrinated (with hockey!), -a skeptical Canucks fan.
poeple from other countries are gunna be like who in the hell is ron maclean?
