Fire bath doesn't literally mean, that, he will have to sit in the fire. It is a way of cleansing the aura, the energy field around you, to balance the energies around your body which carry the vibes. It is science.

If he had a bended spine, then the Guru will give few asanas to be practiced for one year or more, to correct the spine, and only after this the yoga could be learned. Is today the same? It looks like not...
