    I really think the photography and videography community needs to get out of the mindset of a camera that's been out for a year and a half is old. Cameras have much longer lifecycles than other tech like phones.

      I 100% agree! New doesn't always mean the best. Sure some of these AI features in these newer cameras are nice but I'd still prefer having the essentials. The A7siii, A7iv, R5 are all perfect examples of this!

      True that. I still use two Canon M6 Mark ii Cameras. One for photo. And the other for video. It shoots 4K 24 & 30 with dual pixel autofocus and no crop which most newer entry level or mid canon cameras don’t even do. It came out in 2019.

    I went through this same dilemma last May. Here is my opinion to help those also debating. I picked up the ZV-E1 because I shot full frame for the last 10 years and was not about to go back to APSC. I also could not justify the price of the A7siii or FX3 for my small channel. Then I borrowed a friend's FX30 to compare them. The zv-e1 completely destroyed the FX30 in low light, focus capabilities and dynamic stabilization. The zv-e1 is so clean. I made it through the summer without any overheating issues. I recently ran it indoors for 2hrs 30 minutes for an interview, stopping only to change the battery once (A7iii was the B Cam which unfortunately shuts off every 30min due to its recording limit, but no limit on the zv-e1). No issues(24fps). All of the videos on my channel since last May have been on the ZV-E1. That thing is like a Swiss Army video camera to the solo shooter. One video last summer, I was walking around randomly interviewing people. I put it in intelligent auto and it automatically focused on everyone, adjusting aperture automatically as people moved in and out of frame to talk. I recently purchased the $30 Ulanzi fan to keep in my bag just in case. I wouldn't mind the FX30 if I already had APSC glass and didn't shoot in low light often but if you only have full frame glass and want the best possible performance and video quality, the ZV-E1 is the only consideration. The reason the FX30 is "Netflix" approved and the ZV-E1 isn't, is only due to the fact that the FX30 can output raw video, ZV-E1 cannot.

      the dual card slot is ESSENTIAL to me for pro gigs why I went with the fx30 as second cam , sure walking around interviewing people lie you say you do , no big deal your card shits the bed but if I'm getting paid to do someones wedding in NEED to know if one card shits out I have another card also recording !! I wanted the zv e1 bad but that was a no go for me about the cards , a lot of people told me that their cameras are not overheating so I don't think that is a big deal

    • @runningintohistory
      @runningintohistory 10 місяців тому

      @@Tonellacam yeah good point. I forgot to mention that. If I was doing work that someone else paid me to do, I would have went with the Fx3 or A7siii. I was actually about to buy the FX3 but couldn't justify the extra cost for what I do at this point. I create mini documentaries and my channel is monetized but I only answer to myself. I wouldn't risk a hired gig with the ZV-E1. A dual card camera (D610), saved my ass on a photo shoot years ago when one of the cards corrupted. That is the only time in 10 years that I have had that problem but that's enough for me. But personally, if I ever decided to take hired video production gigs (and take all the fun out of what I do like I did with photography lol), I still wouldn't step back to APSC. Maybe if I had good crop glass sitting around but I left APSC in 2013 and don't see any good reason to go back.

    I shoot stage rally in the USA, the ZV-E1 has never overheated while shooting 4k60 4:2:2 XAVC-S 200mbps while on stage, sometimes filming 70+ cars passing by with 1 minute gaps between them. 4k120 4:2:2 XAVC-S 280mbps however, will overheat it depending on the temperature and how much concurrent filming I do, for instance Drift Indy overheated it quite quickly on an 80+ degree high humidity day. I've since purchased the smallrig TEC cooler attachment, and I can now shoot 4k120 continuously with the cooler on max speed

    Honestly, the age of the camera doesn't matter. It doesn't. What's more important is that it does the things you love, the way you love to do them and it fits into youre prefered workflow, and you achieve the results you want. Same with computers and graphics cards... There's no need to upgrade them if they do what you need. An exception would be gamers who wish to play the latest titles at their highest quality etc.

    I want a second camera to my A7R5. I originally thought the ZVE1 would be the right choice. But then I watched a Gerald undone and Patrick Tommaso video, that said the stabilisation on the FX30 was the most useable in Sonys range. I did find this a odd thing to say as the ZVE1 would seem to have better stabilisation. Also the comment section was full of people saying the same thing, but they didn't seem to reply. They gave there reason for the FC30 stab being good because they felt the mechanism had more room to move in.

At one an a half year old, they might be coming out with debugged hardware and software at this point, but it might also take a year or two more before it is fully done. Then it is ready for prime time. But by the looks of it you're not much older than the camera, so it might be your first go around the circuit.
    In case that wasn't obvious, you got a dislike from me for being beyond silly. My FX30 is giving you dirty looks too, I've just started rigging. Also, mixing the ZV cameras with the FX means you don't know anything about the idea behind them, meant for completely different users and have very different featuresets.

      If you’re a professional then full frame or apsc doesn’t really matter. It’s important to prioritize functionality . A camera that doesn’t overheat is more important than it being full frame. Cameras like red Komodo, arri alexa 35, canon c70 are all crop sensor and cost more than a lot of full frame options. Also, most professionals aren’t too worried about low light because we’re lighting our sets.
