why is it so weird for people to just say they find someone attractive? why do we have to keep sorting people into different "types" of attractiveness? it's really strange tbh

    • @Nonyah123

because humans like to sort and classify things, and notice traits that group people together. Also online people have a lot of time to think

@princessslaya937 hot* rodents! most of them that have been questioned laugh it off and say they're happy to be considered hot, like Jeremy Allen. They're celebrities, I'm sure they've heard so much worse

This is legitimately true!!! These categories most likely arose because people were like "this person is attractive to me but don't fit the current beauty standard," so a whole aesthetic has to be created in order to justify the "why he kinda...." attitude. I feel like in order to truly tackle the issue, we have to stop judging people's preferences (and faces) so hard as a society.

Now you understand why blatant racism and bigotry exists and why non white people constantly fight against this ideal of what it means to be beautiful if we don’t fit the “classification” of white beauty standards given our features are often diametrically opposed to other white features. Black people especially. Having higher cheek bones, fuller lips, wider noses, fuller eyes(on average) kinkier less straight hair……
Notice we get “classified” often for purposes of being excluded.

Truly, I think we as a society are so simultaneously repressed and oversexualized (both of which get reinforced by Hollywood's concepts of beauty) that we end up creating and then discussing the merits and drawbacks of categories like "rodent man" rather than people just... unabashedly liking what they like. Maybe I just feel particularly impatient with it all because I'm a lesbian and trying to divest of conventional concepts of attractiveness, but it just gets more and more bizarre to me as time goes on.

I call this effect “British face” because I originally started to notice it with the rise of British crossover celebrities like Eddie Redmayne, Tom Hiddleston, Matt Smith, and Harry Styles. It’s like those shifting pictures from the 90s where if you look at them from the exact right angle they’re hot, but from every other angles less so. Well I dno if this is a big white thing, I'd say you are DEFINITELY fully conventionally attractive.
I think you might just have a bias being black, tbh the most conventionally, and often mega flawless people these days, especially women, are those japanese/korean k=pop idols.
That are reaching a level of beauty no white person is reasonably gonna achieve.

This makes me uncomfortable because as you said, “unconventionally attractive” is really only focused on white men, and everyone else just kinda is hot or not. Both women and people of color are not the topic of conversation.
It’s just like, somehow, calling a white man a rat is now a compliment?

  • @xxgeminixx5675

I completely agree, and whilst I think it's an overused term, I do think the 'female gaze' or simply the appeal of men with just enough feminine qualities, plays a huge part in the rodent trend, take the Challenegrs leads for example. In general the film objectifies them more compared to the female characer, with their masculinity constantly being questioned. Art especially exhibits alot of vunerability and sensitivity, notably at the hands of a dominating women, which definitely plays a part on why the internet became so obsessed with his character. This even follows through with the actors' themeselves. People have expressed a massive love for Josh O'Connor, purely because he comes off as quite literally adorable, he's this incredibly sweet and non threatening guy, making him more appealing to lots of women, plus he is clearly talented actor. Whilst Mike Faist can come off as much more saracstic amd intense, even seeming like the more 'masculine' one of the duo, his extensive theatre background definitely shuts this down. Very so, he has gained plenty of fans through his vocals and that fact that he is actually quite a beautiful and talented dancer. Which is not often seen in alot of Hollywood men.

I've been comparing men in my life to the rat from Flushed Away for years, so I'm glad the Internet has finally caught wind! I think this comparison has less to do with the men's striking similarity to the rat, and more to do with the rat's striking similarity to the men. In other words, I think that the specific rat from Flushed Away looks like a lot of humans, but that doesn't mean those humans look like rats, just that one specific rat. No wonder the producer based the rat on Matty Healy's appearance!

If Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor are considered ‘rodent men’ i have no fucking idea what attractive is anymore? How much of a perfectly sculpted Greek-god statue do i have to be to be considered ‘conventionally attractive’? Wtf is that. No idea how talking about someone like that allowed on mainstream media, also that its ok becuz they’re dudes is a bit sad, i mean those newscasters need to preach some equal respect here

  • @roccafille
    @roccafille 6 місяців тому +1

There is way to much emphasis on looks in society. You can find people attractive based on all sorts of things, not just looks. Also I think the internet gives a scewed version of reality. I live in a majority white country, am darker skintoned and overweight but with a smaller waist and big bust. A lot of people compliment me from diffrent backgrounds. Not just guys, the kids at the school I work or other women to. I think being being attracted to people can differ from "being attractive" because as cliché as it sounds... It really is about the whole package. I think people are surprised if they find somebody attractive that the media hasn't told they should find attractive. Tbh a lot of the guys you showed didn't seem attractive to me. Kendrick actually looked better then most of them 😅. But i guess in mainstream American media; white and skinny is still right. Thank goodness for the internet. I watch a lot of diffrent people and seeing all that diversity does really help for confidence for me personally. At the end of the day we are all people and everybody wants to be threated nice regardless of how you look. So I like to threat everybody with the same kindness regardless of their look because I hope the would do that for me to.
    Love your videos ❤.

Im not the “ugliest” but Lmao I literally hate my face and hearing this whole conversation was enlightening but sucked to realize.
as a woman, it does a lot to your self esteem, feeling a bit out of placed and judged for what you do because of the way you look etc, idk I’ve been coping by taking care of my health and staying relatively thin, learning to play with makeup whatever, I love clothes so I dress ok and still it feels like I’m getting better atmost things but I still feel stuck sometimes, I know what I wish I could fix, so if ur a doctor giving away free facial procedures hmu😂🤣🤣
