Thanks! 10 Bettie Page 9 Future State: Dark Detective 8 The Last Ronin 7 Swamp Thing 6 Department of Truth 5 Old Guard: Tales Times 4 Black Widow 3 Nocterra 2 The Nice House on The Lake 1 Batman/Catwoman
I started collecting again a few months ago after about a 30 year break. I’ve been purchasing a lot of books so I’m throwing stuff at the wall seeing what sticks. So here’s what I like so far in no particular order. Strange Academy The 6 Sidekicks of Trigger Keaton Wonder Girl Kang the Conqueror Death of Doctor Strange Wonder Woman Historia Echolands Ordinary Gods Dark Ages DC vs Vampires
Not a bad list at all. My list in any particular order: 1. Karmen 2. Killadelphia 3. Once & Future 4. Firepower 5. DoT 6. Something is killing the children 7. Crossover 8. Shadowman 9. Ultramega 10. Nice house on the lake
Love your content man! I found you through gem mint and loved the back and forth with the new comics. Do you have a podcast on Spotify? I can't find your channel, only guest staring on others. Been watching you all day!
Absolutely agree with The Many Deaths of Laila Starr. I also really dug Stray Dogs, The Nice House on the Lake, and Geiger. I’d add White Ash to my personal list of best of the year.
Exorcist 3 is the greatest psychological thriller of the 90s... Subscribed The Slumber Party Massacre II T-shirt didn't hurt either. Great video and recommendations.
Didn't read too many books that came out this year since I've been busy with my backlog, so I'll do a top 5: 5. By the Horns 4. Haha 3. Primordial 2. Shadow Doctor 1. The Many Deaths of Laila Starr Also some books I read this year that are from previous years that I love: 10. Kaiju Score 9. Judas 8. Blue in Green 7. Chainsaw Man(manga) 6. Kill or Be Killed 5. Invincible 4. These Savage Shores 3. Jujutsu Kaisen(manga) 2. Y the last man 1. Royal City
I appreciate all the attention you give to letterers and colorists. I’d love to see a video about the best lettered and colored books of the year…or all time. Also best designed books. I love all the work Tom Muller does for Image and the X-Men books. Hard to rank them in order, but some of my favorites this year are: Six Sidekicks of Trigger Keaton Dead Dogs Bite Many Deaths of Laila Starr Fire Power Ice Cream Man Stillwater Silver Coin Stray Dogs Nice House on the Lake Friday (if I had a number 1, this would be it)
Like many here, with you on Laila Starr, dug it from the first issue with that great cover! Maybe those words for your description you’re looking for are: A lyrically resonant meditation on life, death and rebirth!
« Be excellent to each other »! You’re amazing man! Not easy to follow all series from France, but my favorites are « Nice House on the Lake », « Gunslinger Spawn », « Radiant Black », « Mazebook « , « Crossover « , « Department of Truth «
For me the top 10 will be the following: 10. Last Ronin 9. The me you love in the dark 8. Something is Killing the Children 7. Geiger 6. Nice House on the Lake 5. Moon Knight 4. Ice Cream Man 3. Nightwing 2. Stray Dogs 1. Many Deaths of Laila Starr Honorable mentions: - Silver Coin - Swamp Thing - Department of Truth - Black Widow - Primordial
I stopped reading/collecting comics back in 1994 until a year ago I walked pass a local comic shop and seen a poster for Gieger. I now own every issue of Gieger even the giant 80 page special that came out and I'm back into reading comics again. I'm Living all the Spawn titles and A nice house in the lake Red Rooms is great so far too.
Just finished Laila Star because of this, amazing! It reminded me of Siddartha, one of my favorite novels of all time. Also, I think Mazebook is going to be equally as impactful
I've been trying to go through and think what my favourite books are but I can honestly not even remember. 98% of what I read is DC so I won't have those big impactful books. Though Swamp Thing went from a book I'd never read to one of my absolute favourites of the year. I think the books I had the most fun with were Robin and Suicide Squad. Both also big surprises for me. Even though it's not done yet, Not All Robots has been one of my favourites. I'm excited to see how it concludes. The Me You Love in the Dark was up there too. It didn't blow me away, but I loved it. The worst thing I read all year is easy. Checkmate. Not sure why I bought issue after issue but I did and it was the most aggrivating read, for all the wrong reasons. Justice League too. That's the second longest book I've been subbed to and I've finally dropped it. I guess my favourite has been The Nice House on the Lake. That book just gives me all the right creeps. I know in my heart it can't stick the landing, and for that reason I kind of don't mind if it doesn't come back. But I really , REALLY!, want it to work.
It was quick but the DWJ art was so worth it, if you liked Wonder Woman dead earth you’re gonna dig beta ray bill. Go out and grab it if you got a chance
Spot on with--The Many Deaths of Laila starr, The Nice House on the Lake and Geiger. I like the artwork on The Me You Love in the Dark and I haven't read the rest but definitely going to check Swamp Thing by RAM V (also my favorite writer of the year...can't wait for the whole story of "Radio Apocalypse" drawn by ANAND RK--Amazing Artist that don't just stay with one style of Illustration-- check their collab on Gravity's Wall, Blue in Green w/c you did mention also). I will check "Red Room"--just having a hard time reading it when I see it in the stand and I'll get back on all TPBs of Ice Cream Man.
Great job and choices, Robbie. Geiger was amazing and Nice House on the Lake (Ive only read up to issue #4) has been great so far. Stray Dogs was very enjoyable as well. I would not have found those without the help of you (and Gem) so thank you. Station.
Love it. Have read eight of the ten books on this list and six or seven of the eight are on my top ten before I think about it and the other two are strong contenders. Was thinking maybe Stillwater? And what about that finale to our beloved Wasted Space? Just some suggestions--may be a few other worthy contenders but nothing to argue with at all here. No Marvel is frickin'' A right this year. Thank you. It is a historic high for Marvel lately in everything but their comic product--which now seems more that--product--in service to better more improtant things--then I can ever remember. And I go back through low ebbs in their cycle to the mid 70s. But this really is the pits.
Agree with your top 2. Also Nice House on the Lake is very deserving of it's place on the list. I suppose Mazebook and Primordial came a bit late in the year to make it. Also Something is Killing the Children is still a great book. I went out on a limb and bought the 1:100 of Many Deaths of Laila Starr on pre-order. I rarely buy ratios now, except for Something is Killing the Children, but the collector in me is glad I bought that one. Great book that will stand the test of time. Thanks for all you do over the year. Have a great Xmas
Haven't read Laila Starr, but I completely agree with 'The Me You Love in the Dark'. While 'Nice House on the Lake' started off strong, I felt it got a little bogged down later on. Whereas TMYLITD picked up steam and became more and more what I love.
It's my favourite read of the year, you should try out the author's other indie books like 'Blue in Green', 'These Savage Shores' and 'Grafity's Wall'.
Great Choices Robbie and Great to see the many deaths of Laila Starr @ #1. I have most of these runs and out of the ones I have they are all worthy ! Have a great festive period ahead. Greetings from Scotland :)
Haha, Robbie & I have a mind meld going on, seeing as I've read 9 out of these top 10 & would rank half at least up there on my list. I would replace Red Room with Fantastic Four current run and By the Horns with Radiant Black (I know you gave up on this Robbie, but check this out in trades it's grown so much!) Most, if not all of the rest I loved and By the Horns is definitely near the top of my 2022 to be read when it releases in February!!
BWS’s Monsters is my favorite of the year. Maybe I’m biased because he is, in my opinion, the best living cartoonist, but that book is an amazing work of art.
Excellent video. Have to notice that all the books are new characters and many are only 6 issues or less. It’s easier to paint a masterpiece on a blank canvas than by adding another layer to an existing work. This is why Marvel and DC big names seldom rank on these lists, especially when combined with all of their editors! Too many cooks; similar analogy.
1. Nice house on the lake 2. Stray dogs 3.Geiger 4.Nightwing 5.Seven Swords 6. Secret files:The Gardener 7.HA-HA 8.Mazebook 9.Department of Truth 10.Beta Ray Bill
Love your passion, man. I collect & read a lot of indies, but I skipped Laila Starr because it had a 1:100 or was it a 1:200 ratio incentive. I hate when Image does that because usually it makes the regular a & b covers worthless over time. I’d much rather pick up the trade paperback at a later time, which I plan on doing. Surprisingly, one of my top series of the year was Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow. I love when writers take a C level character and develop an interesting & meaningful story. Check it out. Artwork is gorgeous.

Great job, Robbie! I liked Karmen. Very intriguing premise. Touches a little on life after life.
Moon Knight is definitely on my list of best of 2021.
By the Horns made the list? Okay, I've seriously underestimated that one. I'm going to have to pick up the trades!
Thanks for the interest in BTH, Brandon! Hope you dig it!
This whole list is bang on!

Reading your list, I have to agree Black Widow didnt get enough love.. those first 5 books might have been the best BW of all time.

Awesome list of comics that you picked for 2021 definitely a list of worth comics that came out
Excellent book choices! Thanks again!
Great top 10 list Robbie I would add shadow doctor was awesome, the recount, and Becastar which was so much fun to read Station
Ram V is the 2021 comic book MVP. Can this be a thing?

H-Town Knocking the Boots won the day for me!🤣🤣..preach on, bro...
Great list sir. I agree with a lot of what you’re saying here for sure.
Death of Laila Starr is the only comic I cried to. It was so absolutely stunning and beautiful. Words don't do it justice
Laila Starr definitely deserved the top spot this year! I've read through it twice, and I'm already itching for a third.
You should try Ram V's other indie work like 'Blue in Green' and 'These Savage Shores' they're both really good.
Such a powerful story that goes in an unforseen direction.
Off of your list I read Geiger, Nice House on the Left, and Many Deaths of Laila Starr
I like your list, I would have made sure “Space Bastards” & “ possession” were on that list
Half way through your list and it's super solid! Great choices, Robbie. No surprises from you here. ;)
Thought Beyond the Breach would have made it. Maybe I need to give Home Sick Pilots another chance… kinda hit or miss in some of Dan Waters work.

For sure! It's easier for a reader to get into because the creative team doesn't have any continuity hoops to jump through.
House of Slaughter...Gun Honey...Moon Knight...Animal Castle..and He Who Fights with Monsters!!
I would have had DareDevil in my list and I still haven’t checked out ANY ice cream man but besides that I’m in agreement with ya
Great list. I must be the only person who don’t like ice cream man. Nothing appeals to me with that title. And I’m honestly surprised
Beta Ray Bill by Daniel Warren Johnson
Monsters by Barry Windsor-Smith
UltraMega by James Harren
I could only think of 3

2. Stray dogs
3.Geiger
4.Nightwing
5.Seven Swords
6. Secret files:The Gardener

I liked By the Horns, I forgot about it though so I need to catch up.
I am all about Homesick Pilots too
