    It seems to me that every time these 2 teams play, there are very interesting calls and no calls...

    It's hilarious that this video is supposed to be as though BYU got screwed, but it actually shows the only bad call was the one that benefited BYU

      regattachampion the title only says they were controversial calls, not that by got screwed over... Sure the fans were upset but it was at BYU, what did you expect? I think you should have thought a little more before commenting...

      Bruh it's a video made by a U fan titled "controversial" plays from a game the U won. It clearly wasnt meant to seem like that.

    From a completely unbiased person that is only going of the calls and video evidence here is my opinion
    1. Holding on kick return: Holding may not have been the right call but there was defiantly clipping and it should have been called back either way
    2. Norwood Not touching the punt: I really don't see him touch it, and the ball does not change direction at all so it seems like a right call
    3. Thorton trying to fake a PI: Didn't even see this part in the video?
    4. Tip Ball after the PI: I see the pass interference before I see the tip so I think there should have been a PI flag
    5. Alisa clearly not in endzone: as it says he clearly was not in, that was a bad call
    6. Matthews takes down Porter: There should have been a flag for offensive pass interference but that dosen't affect anything the game would still be over

    This game was so frustrating to watch in person... a disappointment of a season, but at least Utah was slated by ESPN as an enigmatic loss.

      @Ian Peay, You must not have read up on the history of the football rivalry. Utah leads the overall football rivalry series against BYU, 62-34! There's proof on the Wikipedia. Also, every year when the Utes and cougars played in football; all of national t.v. stations have said that Utah leads the rivalry series over BYU.

    #1: I don't see holding but the refs must've seen it if they called it.
    #2: He didn't touch the ball.
    #3: idk not on the video
    #4: terrible call. all the pi was before the ball was tipped
    #5: terrible call. his elbow hit the ground and the ball was clearly not in the end zone.
    #6: good call. matthews brought the guy down because he is what his first name rhymes with

      (BYU fan here) I like the no call on #6 because Matthews clearly does pull the defender down, but there was a bit of contact even before that that could have been called defensive holding or PI. Again, I don't think Matthews pulling the defender on top of him should be rewarded so I like the no call.

    #1 I can't tell. Refs usually don't call holding unless they see it.
    #2 Refs right. I don't think he touched it.
    #3 Not in the video.
    #4 Refs wrong. The ball was not tipped, however, the PI was a little weak as Utah was completely covered so the Utah player was essentially drawing the PI instead of going for the ball so I'm OK with the outcome.
    #5 Refs wrong. Elbow down before goal.
    #6 Refs right. BYU was covered so he pulled him down.

    Where is that hold on the return? I have watched this in every angle I can and I NEVER see a hold. Plus they throw the flag as soon as they see him get away from the defenders. I call foul play by the refs. I mean, it's the same guys from the horrible call in the Wisconsin vs. ASU game.

  • @GarretPierce11
    @GarretPierce11 10 років тому +3

    As a BYU fan who was at the game. I thought lots of these were blown calls. BUT after watching the TV cameras view i think some were the right call.
    1.the hold on the kick return is questionable. There may have been holding at the back end of it but it wouldn't have affected the play. So it should have been a no call.
    2. That was the right call, he didn't touch it...unfortunately.
    3. That's not in the clip.
    4. That was the right call, ball was tipped, but it would have been PI otherwise.
    5. Sadly, barely the wrong call. Alisa had the ball back at his stomach, he may have barely broken the white line, hard to see from the angle, but unlikely.
    6. This one is tough, Porter seems to get his hands on him, but they're just battling for position and Mathews pulls him out of bounds. Could have gone either way.

    • @usteeler81
      @usteeler81 10 років тому

      #5 remember it doesn't matter where the man is, it matters where the ball is. The ball has to cross the line in order for it to be a touchdown. As you clearly pointed out Alisa has the ball by his stomach. No TD. #4 I have trouble with, it's whatever the rule is. I'm more inclined to side with the commentators than the refs in a situation like this because they view these types of plays on a consistent basis, whereas the refs have to make a split second decision. Who knows maybe the guys up in the booth are right, which I tend to be more on that side, but who knows they may be wrong.

    • @GarretPierce11
      @GarretPierce11 10 років тому

      usteeler81 Yeah, I know its where the ball is, my phrasing probably didn't sound that way. It was at his stomach, I'm saying it's possibly the ball barely broke the white line before his knee touched, though I doubt it. With #4 they went back to look at the replay so it wasn't a split second decision and it showed that the ball was tipped. Split second decision it did look like a PI though. It was a smart move by Bronco.

    "When The TDS goes in the Big XII?" You're counting chickens, son, that haven't hatched. Plus, The Big XII is the weakest of the P5's!! And a conference that won't last. Bottom line is that PAC 12 referees did a poor job similar to what they did between Arizona State and Wisconsin a week earlier. If you watch Coach Wittingham during the game, even he was going nuts over the calls that were being made. Only AFTER the game was over that he suddenly changes his tune.

      BYU's too small to be a Division 3 school. Sure we might not be at the top, but the biggest mistake that people can make is sending BYU down. BYU has more students than Utah and so if you're saying based upon size, then Utah would be sent down before BYU. They do it based upon size, not how good teams are.

    Why am I not suprised this video got posted. I was at that game and honestly it got annoying how many times Byu fans would scream because they thought the refs should of thrown a flag with a play. Yes there was certain plays that should of gone the other way but it's sports that's what happens sometimes. Byu had a couple chances to score in the red zone and the Utes defense stopped them. I love the holy war but after going to the game last year I think it's a great thing to not play for 2 years.
