  • CGC is a private company that offers an assessment of the condition of a comic book for a key, then assign a "grade" based upon that assessment. Comic collectors pay them a lot of money for this service. But just because money is exchanged, does it mean the process in infallible?
I just got my Daredevil #1 (1964) back from CGC. Plus a half dozen other Daredevils. What grade did they assign them?

    Nice video.
All the freedom to do what you want, but my take on slabbing is that There are better ways to preserve than through CGC. They have never truly been about preservation, it was just a marketing strategy to get collectors to grade books they are keeping. They have been in the market of “creating Collectibles” for more than a decade. As you are aware, Their original intent was to carve out a piece of the comic market by being a 3rd party at providing grades instead of buyers and seller determining it on their own. They became a collectible creator once they begun marketing of Slabbing comics for anything but fulfilling a transaction. They essentially turned books into trading cards and convinced people that it was good.

Also. Even at those grades, I’m sorry you’re not happy with them, but I’d love to have in my collection. Great pieces and as you said. History in your hands. Your Stan Lee love is what seals my subscribe

I love Stan so much. He made comics fun for sure. And, for the record, I'm just fine with low grades. Low better is better than no grade!

I agree with your sentiments regarding CGC creating collectables. I only submit books for preservation purposes personally (I am a comic buyer, not a comic seller, and quite happy with this position).

I feel your pain. I think there are different paths for all comic lovers but for me, and I think you, owning a comic you love is the most important thing. So slabbing isn't the way to go. Some nice mylar, microchamber paper to protect against acidity and keep away from sunlight (comics are such vampire wannabees) is the way to go. Also talk to them. Or is that plants? I forget.

Great set of Daredevils. One thing, you may want to consider put a backing board at the fonrt of your boxes just in case you reach in to pull it out and gouge the first comic (I HAVE done it before). The backing board protects the first book. :)

I loved your Daredevil presentation. My two favorite of these comics is issue #2 with that great cover and issue #7 with the great cover plus excellent story of a a man fighting a superhuman and holding his own. I love that you don't hype high grade comics. It's history and art. Lower grade books are great and they make it possible for me to complete runs. I collect for the love of the hobby. Thank you

I just finished reading the first Daredevil Epic Collection, and it was great to refresh my memories of those early days. Such a pity Stan had to piss Wally around and derail what could have been a legendary run.

I was watching another channel and someone commented that he had bought a comic from the newsstand when he was a kid. He sent it in to be graded and CGC said it had a color touch on the cover. Apparently CGC is seeing color touch-ups where there aren't any.

Great Daredevils!!! 2.5 to .5 restored is about the same value as the blue labels. I have Dardevil #1 in a .5 blue but its missing center fold. If it had the center fold it would be a 2.0. I'm fine with the .5. I just always wanted it in my collection. I'm sure that if I graded all my high valued books there would a purple surprise or two.

I'm frankly just fine with low grade because I'm happy to have them in collection. I whine at times - and decide for some reason to film my whining to show to the greatest amount of people as possible - but I really don't mind a low grade, particularly if the colors and bulk of the cover looks nice.

I agree about preserving books but I am so tired of the CGC game with all these graded books. I think a heavy duty backing board and a nice mylar bag in a top-loader is as good for preservation as their crap ass plastic shell. CGC is responsible for killing the hobby as pricing is ridiculous even for RAW books now. The dealers are selling Raw books at the same price as graded. Sad.

      Mylar is magic.
I'm definitely off the CGC bandwagon and won't give them another nickel. That said, I have my eyes on some Silver and Golden age books and unless I can find them local where I can take a look, I will buy slabbed off eBay because you at least know what you are getting is authenticated.
      So it's complicated.

@@Nerdsonearth I see your point with Golden age book. They are already hard to find Raw and in the wild.
