    The Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT), located near Pune, Junnar, near Narayangaon at khodad in India, is an array of thirty fully steerable parabolic radio telescopes of 45 metre diameter, observing at metre wavelengths. It is operated by the National Centre for Radio Astrophysics (NCRA), a part of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai. It was conceived and built under the direction of Late Prof. Govind Swarup during 1984 to 1996. It is an interferometric array with baselines of up to 25 kilometres. It was recently upgraded with new receivers, after which it is also known as the Upgraded Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (uGMRT).

    Actually this is one of the most advanced radio telescopes in the world. As a summer school student I have been to this place. Way back in 90s they had advanced silicon graphics machines analyzing the data. I am happy to see that its been upgraded and is back on the list of technologicalachievements that can make India proud.

    If we see it on maps, its vastness is felt. Antennas spread all around the Narayangaon town. Really a huge project.

      What he is trying to say is that we should have no progress and have bullocks and cattles forever.
      He probably wants to herd them all his life and not get any other job

    • @Skywalker622
      @Skywalker622 2 роки тому

      What he is saying is most of the Indian population is poor as compared with western standards and India should be investing on building better infrastructure and facilities etc etc. for its own population which is true as gdp per capita of India is around 2k while almost all european and western countries have a gdp per capita of above 30k...but also investing in these kinds of technology inspires people of the nation into science and technology at the same time helps in the advancement of science and technology in the country which also contributes in the overall development of the nation. If India waits till all its 1.3 B+ population gets gdp per capita above 30k by that time US, European Nations, China Russia etc would have begun mining asteroids and India will be left scratching and to start from basics so an equilibrium has to be maintained so when opportune moments arrives we will be also ready. Look at International space station (ISS) not 1 Indian had the opportunity to visit it only the contributing member nations are given that opportunity and it is set to be decommissioned in around 2028.

      @@himanshuranjan7340 Fine but why not invest on hygiene of people in the country which could generate more tax if people were out of poverty.
