Apologies its taken me a little while to get to comments, Im having more issues with the music LOL so I am officially no longer using Epidemic sound for Royality free music, every time I use music from them (as of the last couple of videos) YT flags me, I dont understand why? But anywho, I had to remove any music in todays video (there isnt many parts in todays video where I used music, I think in total maybe 2 minutes in todays video had music and it was just background music) but what happens is the actual audio of the video almost gets partially muted, so very few parts in todays video may be a little hard to hear. I have been doing the same thing here with going through the house as if I was moving. I removed a suitcase of stuff just in the spare room and I am very minimal already. Incredible 😮
DANNI YESSSSSSS. I used to be a professional organizer in the early 2000s, and before minimalism and all that was popular, THAT was the question I asked myself when decluttering and my clients: "If you were moving tomorrow, would you want to pack this, unpack it, and find a place for it at your new house?" It was super eye-opening to realize how much you do NOT want to deal with when moving. I love this technique so much!
I was honestly shocked on how well this worked! It is a GREAT strategy to use! It truly does make you see the true value & importance of your items, all I could think of is "uggggh do I really want to pack this up....well no, not really...well than do I really need it" I love this question, its a fantastic tool! And that is so cool, a pro-organizer! Such a rewarding job!

Looking back at my home and how incredibly CHAOTIC it was, we never really decluttered until I started this journey, I had so much stuff, mixing in Ians stuff, my stuff, the kids stuff, stuff we had inherited, just years worth of stuff, it was quite the journey & I am so incredibly grateful I started this journey. The one question I love on this journey that has helped so much "Would I even know I had this if I needed it?" So often we buy things over and over because we don't even know we have them 😂

That is such a wonderful idea, absolutely LOVE that idea! Had I not already donated it, I would have for sure done that! however, I think anyone who is going through the same/similar situation would really appreciate this comment. When we downsized we moved into what was our vacation home. I moved many things from place to place - garage to house to basement to upstairs… I’m finally getting to the end of my whole-house declutter and have found myself “angry decluttering” because I just didn’t want to move certain things anymore 😂 We have like 20 pairs of scissors because we actually use them. If made one place for scissors, they’d disappear. I’ve tried. 😊
"Angry Decluttering" LMBO I have done the exact samething, ive "angry decluttered" before! We too moved things from place to place and at the sametime accumulated more things, it wasnt until I started this decluttering journey on YT and finally said enough is enough where I started making real change in the home, and now my family, myself, my home is so much happier!
The scissors 🤣 I got rid of only 3 because we too use them, apparently we need a lot of scissors LOL Thanks for watching and being here on this journey with me friend! xoxo
I have scissors in the entryway, kitchen, my desk (which is in the kitchen lol), our bedroom, my husband’s office and our en suite bathroom. There are scissors in two drawers in my kitchen. Two pairs for food related packaging and one for non food things like amazon boxes and cut flowers. It feels like too many but we do use them.
I am downsizing and moving right now….I ask myself this same question with EVERYTHING

Man I saw that same unfinished basement inspiration and it’s amazing! Mine didn’t turn out that nice either. I use it for a gym and my cat boxes. It doesn’t need to be amazing. I mean it does. But it doesn’t. Lol. Congrats on the 500 decluttered items!
So I recently moved from a 4 bedroom home to a 2 bedroom trailer. I have lived in this home for over 20 years so yeah I had a lot of things to go thru. Let me mention I love thrifting and I love my things, but I got rid of so many things that it made it simple to move. So you can do this!!! Sending you good vibes

I was a professional organizer that helped people move. It would amaze people how much stuff they actually had once they started boxing it all up. Invariably they got rid of 15-20% more stuff because they were too lazy to pack it up once they got tired! 😂
This was my one of my favourite videos that you’ve done! I am blown away by how much you got rid of. I have to say that although I know the layout of your kitchen made organizing it hard for you, I will miss the coziness of it. I’ve always wondered if your house has an upstairs? It’s a lovely home, but you don’t need Phyllis looking at you anymore!
HEY DANNI You can take that orchid for your grandmother and put it on her graveside. I’m sure she would absolutely still love it. I have a similar problem except for it is my oldest child and I don’t know how I’m supposed to part with everything of hers. She’s an adult so she had her own place and I just don’t know what to do so, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.❤

Choose the most special items and feel good about parting with the rest, knowing it will bless others who can use and enjoy it now! Maybe there are friends or family who can come and see if they want any of the things you don't want. My condolences for the loss of your daughter. 🙏

And that is a beautiful and wonderful idea, had I not already donated the orchid that is exactly what I would have done, she would've loved that so much! Thank you for sharing that! Letting your daughters items go, donating them and having those items bring joy to someone else is great, however, thats easier said than done! I would suggest to be very patient with yourself, take as much time as you need, perhaps let go little by little, but also keep the items that you really love and bring you joy & happiness. I love Michele's comment below, seeing if people you know, family & friends may be able to help you with her items. Do what feels right for you and at your own pace. Hi, Danni! Great job! I have a scrapbook from when I used to date my late boyfriend when we were teenagers. Because he played in a band, I had saved newsclippings from their band. I decided to laminate the articles and put them in a loose leaf binder and give it to his granddaughter as a remembrance of his beginnings as a guitar player. I think she will enjoy them. I didn’t want to throw them away. And his son will enjoy them too. Hope things are going well for you and the family. Can’t wait to see the new place! Hugs! Always your friend! 🥰👍💜💜💜🎸🎸🎸
Some rooms are so easy on what goes in there, like the bathroom and kitchen. But then I have things like my disco ball on a stand. Where do I store that? There's no disco ball room. I'm not decluttering my disco ball. I think it'll be attic bound. Pens and batteries just go the big sort. I sat down and tested every single pen and so many did not make the cut. I can't stress how much I love our battery organizer. It's a beautiful thing. Heavy, but beautiful.
I know letting that orchid go was really hard. Give it time and it'll fade from your memory, instead of you being constantly reminded of the hurt. Something that hurts you when you see it shouldn't be kept.
I don't know where you are in the moving journey, but don't forget to completely pull out/remove every cabinet bottom drawer. Things fall down from drawer to drawer and then hide in the space under the bottom drawer. Kitchen cabinets like to eat things.

No the disco ball stays!!! Thats a MUST! I want a disco ball 🤣 Id put it in my room LMAO Ian would love it! LOL And theres 2 things I keep forgetting to get that I absolutely need...a battery organizer & a Rubbermaid brush, I need those things in my life LOL.
The other day I was trying to think of anything Ive gotten rid of that I miss....I honestly couldnt think of anything except 1 thing and I honestly wasnt even that sad about it! Its so true, the longer time goes on the more Ive forgotten literally everything ive decluttered. I think about all of the stuff ive gotten rid of, rooms full of stuff and yet I cant think of 1 item I regret letting go, that just proves to me I didnt need any of it and starting this decluttering journey was the BEST idea ever! And absolutely, seeing that Orchid made me sad, it wasnt something that made me happy, I didnt want that reminder. I hope someone goes to the Goodwill, sees it and falls in love with it!

I just sat down to rest from decluttering my cabinets!! And here you were decluttering your kitchen... I'm older now and I just said I don't need these things anymore! I don't entertain a lot and don't need platters and big bowls anymore. Lol! I have several scissors I keep in kitchen and bathroom, can't get rid of those.

You have been an inspiration! At 69 almost 70 I have been decluttering for about 2 years! Downsizing my junk. Still more to do. Still have some hot spots. But I will get there! Less stuff unburdens me also.i find with less stuff it is so much easier to keep clean or just clean up. Still.working my way through it all. Thank you!

I was like I cant take this anymore, I had our stuff and the kids stuff and other peoples stuff, it was a mad house! Life is so much easier and so much more simplified now having decluttered, but it definitely takes time to get to your decluttering goals, but so worth it! Hi Danni! When I moved about 3 years ago, I got rid of tons of things, then I ran out of time, packed up a lot of things. I've done some decluttering here but I still need to do more. I am getting ready to sell my house so I'm packing up everything and putting it in the garage. Once I move and unpack, if I cant find a home for something I'm going to get rid of it then. I just am not in the right mindset to declutter right now. Congratulations! Can't wait to see your new place! 💜💜💜
Selling / buying a home can be super stressful, its so much work, adding decluttering to that, can be a lot, a lot, I totally get where you're coming from and I think you have a great strategy! I feel the exact same way, if it doesnt have a home in the new place, than it goes and sometimes thats just easiest. And thank you, I cant wait to show you guys the new place! Awesome job! After decluttering for so long, you just don't want to bother with it anymore when good enough is good enough. It's nice when a certain challenge or method comes along that reinvigorates your drive to declutter. It's also very cool that the method/decluttering question you used became a reality and now you're excited about moving too!

I know I made the suggestion on using the dining room cabinet for the stuff you don't use every day in the kitchen, when you do move, you'd see for yourself what you would use. But you are correct, you will always have to do organization maintenance.

As Renata mencioned here in the comments, it's amazing to rewatch some of the old videos and see how we change since we begin to see the difference between having less stuff to care about... It is in fact liberating!! Well last big declutter 😂 at least for a very long while. But Ill be decluttering forever, I esp. need to keep up on the decluttering maintenance, I sometimes let that go for too long and its crazy how quickly things accumulate. Wow! So inspiring! What is kind of funny is that I've been asking myself that question a lot here lately. We had our 2nd "too close for comfort" wildfire in 3 or so years, trying to grab and stuff things into our car & pickup that we needed to save and wanted to safe was eye opening. ALSO hubby & I aren't getting any younger & he's been tossing around the idea *again* of selling and moving to town. THAT suggestion used to panic me, but I am so much more ready to "let things go" than I have been in the past. I am liking the less cluttered look and feel and I am gaining mental, emotional, as well as physical energy to really get the "decluttering" going... even if it's just one drawer, shelf or box at a time. Every little bit of clutter gone is HUGE! THANK YOU!!! (Congrats on your new home!!!! ❤😊)

Oh the scissors! I got a small plastic bin (I already had it, I did not buy a new one Yay!) and put all my scissors, scotch tape and glue in here and I ALWAYS know where it is! It's fabulous!

That is a question i always ask myself too for when im decluttering and organizing. Even though i am not moving any time soon, my mind thinks “well if i were to move next week or next month, would i want to bring this item to the new place or do i need it or do i want to lug it to the new place ?” As much less packing there will be , i’m satisfied
I totally understand the mindset you chose for this declutter. My mindset is half yours/ half Marie Condo method. I am trying to do better in terms of organizing especially recently given that my maternal grandparents both passed away. (Gma in January and Papa in October last year.) Things have been hard and Papa was a major pack rat so he had stuff EVERYWHERE. Most of it being tools and randomly had money hidden away in boxes in his closet. Don't know why he did that but he did. We also found 17 GUNS he had hidden away too. It was ridiculous how many he had. But I understand why you have the moving mindset. It makes it a bit easier when decluttering your house. Best wishes sent your way to you and your family Danni! ❤❤

Hardest: definitely sentimental/heirlooms. Second is paper because its soooooo tedious. 3rd is adhd family's stuff because they want it gone as much as I do but they refuse to actually do it, and I can't do it all by myself.

It is gone...I was going to donate it, but than I thought "ummmm whos is actually going to want this" 🤣 So I ended up trashing it, that was hard...but not really 😆I dont know what I was thinking LOL yes were selling this house, we had somethings to complete first but were selling it ASAP. It’s Wonderful!! Congratulations on getting it all out. You asked what is the hardest thing to declutter? Imma have to say.. “my house “😆😆😩 it’s hard to stay focused on the dream. The prize. The cost of going through the process is daunting..😣 frustrating really. Proud that you stuck with it and pushed yourself to see the end results.
The question is health and on that motivation can help put it into perspective.

We are in the unique position of doing a staggered move. We don’t have to vacate our farmhouse until our new employee comes but we needed to move for the start of the school term so we only brought the essentials with us, mattresses and bedding, clothing and cooking items and other things we use on a regular daily or weekly basis. It’s been massively eye opening. In the three weeks we’ve been here I find myself noting what I need/miss during the week and then only bringing those items back with me when I return from the farmhouse over the weekend. The new rental is smaller than our place and has different storage options. Even doing things this way I am finding excess and seeing just what an influence the available space and our habits and routines have on what we need and use and keep. Right down to the groceries I use and cleaning supplies I keep on hand. We can live with so, so much less than we think and it is so, so much easier to keep clean and organised and maintained when we have fewer things. I think I might just be in my minimalist era.
