4 years later and you’re still teaching man :) I’ve become so used to knowing where to draw breath at this point it was hard to believe i really should learn more breath control but you taught me a technique i like now thank you! And it really does make a huge difference, not in “having breath” but sometimes having ENOUGH breathe late in a verse. Sometimes you still need a lot in the tank halfway through one of those high energy verses, I yell sometimes so i was struggling there. I really appreciate all the talking and little details you was willing to teach. I learned A LOT from your vowel segment i never thought of it that way.
Video starts @ 4:05 1. Quauter note: @ 5:20 last word before breath is at 2nd bar after #3 AND*breath * 2. 8th note: @ 6:38 last word before breath is at 2nd bar after #4 *breath * 3. 16th note: @ 7:35 last word before breath is at 2nd bar after #4 AND *breath *
Thanks for your kind words Edmund! I look forward to sharing much more and I'm glad my videos are helping you out so much! Much respect! 🙏😎👊 - Cole Mize
I aint trying to be a rapper or anything, but I love singing along, and my lungs are really not in the best condition due to sickness when I was young. Just know that this video helps many people, including the ill and unfortunate. Big up brother, Jah bless.
Super helpful my guy I’ve been rapping for awhile now and could not under stand why my timing was off anr losing tone i think now it’s becuase I would never take breath into account
These tips were really helpful and you have a very clear way of explaining using amazing examples and visuals. Sincere thanks from Alis. I love your lyrics and instrumental as well.
How Classical Music singers control breathing includes using the diaphram, using the throat and using the mouth- and, of course, posture. Controlling tension also helps. Nancy Wilson can sing wicked loud because she uses an operatic mouth opening and uses her diaphram hard. Her thing is to project. One can use these techniques to hold notes and stretch out phrases. To perform or listen to very long singing without taking a breath is not only impressive to the audience, but a singer who can do finds he or she is more relaxed at the end. Opera singers, soloists, choristers and rock and folk singers. Crosby, Stills and Nash's song "Carry On" and The Beach Boys used this technique in many of their recordings and performances. Some famous Rappers now do it, but not many. Summing up, if you ain't got the techniques and the discipline to do it, you ain't going nowhere. (PS: There is an Indian technique for singing and instrumental playing called "circular breathing" which jazz musicians like the late Paul Desmond, the late Miles Davis, Paul Horn and Kenny G use. Its also used in Oratory.)
most def appreciate the knowledge I did a show last night and wasnt too happy with my performance cause i had too much energy and was too loud and lost my breathe. It was a great show all in all in New York at Club Holo but i learned a lot about my craft.
Really good facts. The only advice I would give to other rappers that’s different is don’t write down your breathing marks. You should be able to have good breath control always and be able to fit breathes in-between any word. It should be second hand nature, not something you have to write in to remember. Very important for free styling
Love these tips. Great stuff my dude! These are things people can definitely put into practice. Dam I wish there was a person like you when I started rapping. All good tho. Take advantage of this my people, take advantage.
Very good video bro. I've been struggling with that of the energy that we want to put in our raps, but now i'm feeling more confident and ready to play around with the mic. Cheers man, u rock.
THANKYOU COLE MIZE!!!!!! I am a rapper, havnt recorded a studio song yet, only infront of camera et cetera. and I have bad asthma. so it is hard for me to rap to long because the bars sound rushed. I am working on it :) I am going to shout you in one of my videos soon
That's awesome Samuel! I'm glad my video was helpful to you man! Feel free to share your video with me once it goes live! Much respect! ✌️😎 - Cole Mize
just when I'm having trouble with my breathing and its fucking up my bars in terms of timing staying on beat etc. Colemize drops this. thank you colemize.
Thanks for putting this together. I've gotten by for awhile on intuition, but it only went so far, and I appreciate you outlining these techniques. Def helps! Big ups, homie!
u know brother, i have been following you and taking ur advice and im noticing the difference. im oldschool, still love the art of rymeing. to ryme as clear as i can and to en joy my new hobby. again. i flow oldschool but to be a lil different you know ??? but i flow on funky beats and keep up well. but still, i wanna step up my game. because lemme tell you that when ive let some people and strangers hear my shit, they love it. its clean n smooth with out sounding like a gasping fish in between my rymes lololol...my inflences have been artists like barry white johhny taylor (disco lady), tupac james brown n so on. im never going anywhere with my music and i understand that BUT, its the love that still burns in my heart for the game. thank you brother for what you got out there in videos, there gems !!! YOU HEAR ME# !!! GEMS !!!! be good n keep up the good work. peace...
Very good guide, very good visualization. At least the modern US trap rappers just don't care anymore and do full playback live, but it really is the mastering of the art to be able to spit your whole verse without a backup or something imo
Thanks for your kind words bro! I'm glad you're enjoying my content! Glad to hear you're steady working on music! Keep it up man! Much respect! 🙏😎👊 - Cole Mize
I’ve felt like I’ve lost energy in my voice when I was recording, and my throat kinda locked up and it hurt. I couldn’t rap for awhile cause it hurts when I tried to breath. Lungs were fine but it was near Adam’s apple. Can anyone explain what happened to me lol
Excellent video! It was just yesterday that I realized it might be a good idea to write in breaths. Unfortunately I have to rework like weeks of obsessive raps I wrote, LOL.
I like the way you sound ur voice me have hard time breathing now since i gain weight something happen either have diabetes or my immune system not good as it use to i notice i run out of breath more
Hey ColeMize, you're videos are very instructive and I can tell i'm getting better just from practicing the things you explain. However I am having trouble controlling the pitch of my voice, I was wondering if you could do a video comparing pitch in regular talking compared to rapping and compared to singing and controlling that.
Thanks! I will certainly be making some videos in the future related to that! But for now be sure to check out the following articles I wrote which I think you may find very helpful! ✌️😎-Cole Mize How to improve your rap voice with emotions: colemizestudios.com/how-to-improve-your-rap-voice-emotions/ How to improve your rap voice with control: colemizestudios.com/how-to-improve-your-rap-voice-control/
