Ive been a Marine for 24 years and Ill just say...shoutout to our fellow Royal Marines...my time training with you are some of my fondest memories...proffesional, disciplined, and very well trained...fair winds and following seas brothers
He was sitting on an M RE box LOL
Hunters started using tall tripods in hunting blinds to hold the rifle, waiting for game, that way you reduce the noise of getting the rifle ready, you have less movement that could spook the game, and it reduces the fatigue of holding the rifle in a position for so long. Snipers use the tripods to watch over an area for counter sniping or security, observing an area waiting for an approved target to appear. They familiarize themselves with all the equipment at their disposal in all configurations. During Vietnam, when the Marines started an organized sniper program, they used commercial hunting rifles and scopes they bought from sporting goods stores in Hawaii using petty cash. The teams were selected based on their eyesight, both members had similar "zeroes" on the scope so they had the same point of impact. They would take turns as shooter or observer to reduce fatigue on missions. The observer had a spotting scope and an M-16 or M-16/M-203 combo for security and the sniper would have the bolt action sniper rifle. They used off the shelf Unertl scopes and Winchester Model 70's in .30-06 and had match ammo loaded for them. Later they used accurized M-14 rifles designated the M-21 chambered in .308 using match rounds made specially for the Marine snipers. They also invented a universal mount to put a scope on an M2 .50 Browning machinegun and trained themselves to tap the butterfly trigger to fire one shot at a target while watching over the valleys between firebases to harass enemy troops and supply lines, which were mostly on foot, bicycle, or ox pulled wagons, thinking they were unobserved and untouchable. Usually they were gone by the time a combat squad reached the area where they were observed, but a .50 bullet caught them a lot faster. :) Marine Sniper Gunny Sgt. Carlos Hathcock is legendary from that time period. He had the longest range confirmed kill for the longest time using a scoped M2 Browning, over 1500 yards, I think. He's the sniper that most movie tropes are based on like shooting an enemy sniper through the scope and sneaking behind enemy lines to take out high value targets, nearly being stepped on while crawling into position. He won the US Wimbledon Cup, not the tennis match, but a long range rifle shooting competition at Camp Perry where Marine and US Army snipers and sharpshooters, police snipers, and Olympic level shooters compete against each other, shooting with iron sights at 1000 yards. Marine snipers win it quite often.
I live right down the road from the home base of the Marine Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC). They encompass recon, sniper, and dual function, among other specialties.
The M40 is a bolt-action rifle that has been in use since 1966 and has four variants: the M40, M40A1, M40A3, and M40A5. The M40A5 is shorter than the A3 and has a suppressor and rail for a night vision optic. The M40A6 is a modified version of the M40 that was introduced in 2016. The Mk22 is a longer-range, more versatile rifle that's designed to increase lethality and is ideal for littoral operations and expeditionary advanced base operations.
He's sitting on an MRE box. Heats your food and it keeps your butt out of the cold mud
The spotter is so important some of firearms are crazy especially.50 call
The ‘’ spotter ‘’ is normally the senior or most experienced sniper of the standard two man team, having the most experience judging wind speed and direction, elevation is determined using an ballistic engine with external values added prior to executing the shot.
I'm not sure where I got the notion that the spotter is usually the more experienced sniper of the team from. It jumped into the frontal lobes.
The Knight Armament Corporation (KAC) 7.62 M-110 is now used by the US Army as a DMR. You "can" buy them commercially with the scope used by the Marines and Army...but they cost $30,000. I'll get the PSA M-110 we have at home for only $1800 and put my own scope on it instead. :)
They might have been in 29 Palms California, a big Marine base where they also do basic training and AIT for a lot of MOP's.
My dad was a green beret. My uncle was a navy seal. My mother had a huge revolver easily accessible to children (dog training). I disassembled and reassembled that many times.
My grandpa was a marine corps green beret in Vietnam, I can’t ever hope to live up to him
That’s a MRE box and that’s genius 😂😂😂
I saw u s marine and I thought it was a marsoc video😂 But it's good to see you're starting to go down the rabbit hole
The Barrett 50 Caliber. One truly badass rifle, especially in the right hands. Lots of different models and calibers on this vid. It depends on the unit, the task, the best gun for each situation. My Remington Model 700 30/6 just hurts when you fire it. It's smaller than the 50 Cal. But was the only rifile used before the Barrett Models, Ect.
In the early 70’s in SOG we were issued Remington 700 bolt action rifles chambered for .300 win mag with Schmidt and Bender scopes and sierra match king bullets ( the only .30 cal bullet capable of long range accuracy at the time ). Watching this video really makes me feel like a dinosaur.
Im in the US Marines rn and i learned that the Marines got rid of the scout snipers and their school. Just a little cool info for you and keep up the great work!
Wow.....One of my good buddies was in Ramadi in the worst of it. He was a scout sniper in 2/5....
False - STA Platoon was removed from the Infantry battalion as it is now a MARSOC function to which MARSOC Snipers are attached to an infantry battalion. Generally only happens during Med Cruise deployments or other training exercises. STA Plt use to be a permanent unit in the HQ Co of each Infantry Battalion. I know - 3/4 (SOC), first ever MARSOC qualified SOC Battalion 1985.
id be terrified of a sniper who can be his own spotter and do everything themself. someone that aware, that skilled, that calculated, and that determined is truly a force not to be trifled with
Spotter is a sniper. So two snipers are a watching you in essence not one.
Fall of 1984 marine corps bootcamp I was1 of 13 that qualified marksmen during a hurricane . 😉
Improvise,adapt overcome .
Simper Fidelis.
I went to Boot camp Aug 84, graduated Nov 84. Member of 3/4 first SOC battalion ever created 1985.
I like to know more about royal Marines and their training and mud run
I’ve seen that belt used in helicopters as a steadying device
The Times Archives uses publicly available Dept of Defense footage, much of it is B Roll, and they use some stock footage as well. There are quite a few channels that do this, some just add text, others write a script an have AI or a VO person narrate.
Love the content man. You’re actually one of the UA-camrs who motivated me into joining the military, while I ain’t in it yet but in process, along with others like niko ortiz. I was wondering if you could do more videos on the us navy as that is the branch I’m looking into joining and hopefully I can call myself a US sailor. Been watching since the play trough days n been watching ever since, hope all is good and keep up the good content. You’re awesome
SWCC
Duh I just saw the you have seen the White Feather before.
You're going to like White Feather - The Deadliest Sniper in US History! A lot of people have heard of the heroism of Chris Kyle and his sad death by an insane man! Carlos Hancock was a badbutt to the extreme! He actually shot one of his kills through the scope of an enemy sniper trying to kill him. He was so awesome! There are other stories about him that are longer, but this one is pretty precise. He was a hero in the Vietnam War and much loved by real Americans that love our soldiers!
My uncle is an ex marine special forces sniper and he taught me how to shoot a Barrett 50 cal off of his back porch and I learned how they make the ghillie suits and I made my own it's alot of fun
Very cool.
There are no "Ex Marines"...at worst your Uncle is a "Former Marine"...most likely he is still a Marine tho
Barring that its awesome that he taught you...you literally could not ask for a better intsructor
Hey man what program do you use to record your screen and the computer screen at the same time? / can you do a vid of your set up? (Afghanistan Vet looking to get into making vids)
It could be a box of MREs. Hope it doesn't affect the flavor.😂
might be a range at pendilton in cali
It isn’t hard to become a Lance Corporal in the USMC, it isn’t like the UK. I think it only takes 9 months (Time in service) and a write up of decent service. Even becoming a sergeant doesn’t take long.
I don't know about in modern-day, but in the past, you could over qualify on your normal rifle qualification, and get instantly moved to sniper if you wanted
What is over-qualifying on your rifle?
@@jlatzke back when my grandfather was in. It was 5 shots in a dime
10.5 years as a marine scout sniper.
Nothing dealier than a Marine with a rifle, sniper or not. If your a Marine and do not qualify expert its a tough life. Rifleman skills are a sense of Pride with Marines. Its how i got my respect as a FMF Corpsman, i could shoot with anyone in any skillset. Even competed in the military long range shooting comps. Marines take being a marksman more serious than any other service ive been around. The Scouts are top notch snipers. Some of the best. Out of a hundred shooters at comp, the too 10 were full of marines and spec ops. Some of the marines were not even snipers in the Corpse, like me, i was a Corpsman that loved shooting and hunting. I never finished better than 20 and that was a shock considering only about 20% of most competing were not apart of Spec Ops groups.
The AR/M16 style rifle is a Knights Armament M110 SASR, as clearly seen around the 06:50 mark. It is a sniper rifle (Semi-Automatic Sniper Rifle). The bolt gun appears to be an M40A6?, and there is a Barret M82 variant in there as well. I am guessing that is also an M110 at around the 09:15 mark but your head is covering the markings. Can you not see them?
KAC M110/Mark 11 Mod 0 was the DMR they were using. In .308 Winchester/7.62x51mm, for you, it would've been used in the M240/FN MAG. Actual sniper rifles were the Mark 13 Mod 7 and Mark 22. As well as the Barrett M107A3.
Edit, the Mark 13 Mod 7 is based off the M40A5/Remington 700, also used in the video. Made this before I watched the whole way lol.
29 minutes ago this video was made, 17 minutes ago your comment was made, you didn't watch all the way through...did you at least watch the video?
@@kevinschindler618 Yes, I did. i started watching 4 sec after it was posted, came up in my feed.
I think it’s an MRE box
M110 7.62
3:25 mre’s
I’m pretty sure the Marines closed the Scout Sniper course and now all of the Snipers from Marines, Army and Navy use the same course. Lots of history was in that Scout Sniper course that taught Marines and others that would take that course.
Just figured it out, M110. Basically an AR10 7.62 nato semi auto. Never got to shoot it, got to olay with the LWRC Repr for trials 24 years ago.
Even the US Coast Guard hs their own snipers.
My father was a Marine in the US. He watched them train, apparently 1 guy went two days hiding to get his target, then another two days home on little rations. Said the dude got bed sores.
Recommend checking out Discovery Channel series, "Surviviing The Cut"... S1 has an episode about Marine Scout/Sniper School, and S2 has an episode about the Army Sniper School. Both are way more interesting and informative.
When the Sniper's aiming at the ship....
I'm thinking it could be a situation where pirates have taken-over a freighter or oil tanker.
I was never a sniper, so I don't know Jack 💩!
You should check out the Navy Seals taking down the Somali pirates holding Captain Philips hostage. 3 pirates, 3 snipers, 3 bullets and 3 kills. Snipers were prone on the fantail of a moving ship, pirates were armed threatening to kill the hostage while on a moving lifeboat AT NIGHT.
If you tell us the reason behind the survey we might be more inclined to invest the time.
Judging distance with no spotter was one of my favorite things i learned, just ur scope.
We had way more high value targets. We took little shots lol our shots were brought to high command .
Unless it changed since my dad was a teacher at sniper school at Camp Lejeune, no...spotters aren't officers. You learn and must be proficient in both sniping and spotting in sniper school as, mission-dependent, you may have to switch roles in the field due to illness/injury/casualty/to reduce fatigue, etc.
The Rain scene is definetly Camp LeJuene, the rifle doesnt look like a Nato 7.62, soft shooting and the Mag is short. I thinks its a 6.5 creedmoor, not sure of the rifle. When i was in the Scout standard issue was a 700 remington nato 7.62
Aiming at the ship for anti-piracy mission training???
On the gator freightor ship, they shooting .50 BMG, best gun ever, just dont wanna hump 20 miles with it.
Very impressive, especially the first showing the slow camouflaged movement on the ground. The breeze moving the branches would make them so hard to see, says someone who has never fired a gun. It is fascinating.
If America had 10 elite soldiers for every 1 mediocre doctor, our medical system would be amazing and the citizens would stay alive more. Priorities, right?
Bra, you ever watch Kingkinmustang. The Brit airsoft guys. His ghillies are sick and he sells them.
Spotter is not an officer but is usually the more experienced sniper.
I miss it, i miss my brothers most of all, if i could have stayed in i would still be in.
I've heard about Americans doing the British sniper school and the HALO jump school in France. Both are supposed to be top tier.
Seems it's quite safe to approach the Marines by boat. At least they're less likely to hit you with a rifle, although a few rounds might fly nearby. Snipers are moderately successful on the track. but the accuracy seen is what happens in real conditions. I'm calm. Moderate shooters at best.
Calm, and very confident it seems 😉
Algorithm :)
