The Jungfrau railway has been making its journey to Europe’s highest-altitude railway station at 3454 metres since 1912. Visit to #switzerland is incomplete without visiting #jungfraujoch - right at the heart of the UNESCO heritage site “Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch”.
The tunnel leading up from the station Eigergletscher is seven km in length and was built between 1896 and 1912. One stop at Eismeer Station within the tunnel offers spectacular views onto the glacier world outside through windows in the #Eiger North Face.
On the summit visitors are greeted by a high-Alpine wonder world made of ice, snow and rocks. All of this can be marvelled at from the viewing platforms “Sphinx” and “Glacier Plateau” on the Aletsch glacier.
The highest permanently manned research and weather station in Europe is also located on the Jungfraujoch. The Jungfraujoch has the highest railway station in Europe and restaurants, a cafeteria, shops/souvenir shops and Ice Palace.
Sphinx Observation Deck
The laboratories are not open to the public, but their fantastic viewing terraces can be visited by all. They offer a panoramic view of the #alps and guarantee an unforgettable experience. The Sphinx is located at 3,571 meters.
