My neighbour bought a used first gen outlander. I showed him how to remove the cover and change the belt. Grooves on primary and secondary. Whoever owned it before stripped the bottom bolts and the seal was torn. So lots of sand and mud got in. I feel bad for him as he paid top dollar for the machine. It was a dirty move as the previous owner had to know what was wrong. There was already a new belt installed.
Ahh that does suck. I should have mentioned in the video the service manual only calls for 5 ft. lbs. of torque on those clutch cover bolts, which aint much force at all. It would be easy to strip the plastic those thread into if your at all careless with the impact. Sorry to hear about your buddy's bike.
