Masterpiece - Big Thief (cover)

quick & dirty cover of this very special song by Big Thief. the composition seems simple on the surface, but I find it full of richness and tension. it's a song of contrasts: the loose and easy rhythm punctuated by a hard strum on the downbeat... the indescribable quality of Adrianne's vocal tone, somehow both childlike and world weary... her graceful stumble into the falsetto notes... and the lyrics themselves, talking about the push and pull of life, the yearning for sameness clashing with the inevitable changes (growing old, growing apart, passing on). to put it short: singing this song makes me feel free, and at the end of the day I think that's all I'm after when making music.
