  • A sequined wonder with a sharp tongue, veteran comedian Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) has seen it all, and for longer than you have... thankyouverymuch. Only the more progress Vance made - not just in her decades-long career, but on behalf of all women - the more the industry, her industry, seemed determined to see her fail. But as her career shows, Deborah Vance is simply too funny and too dang fierce to fail. Watch it all unfold from the very beginning. #HacksOnHBOMax

a bunch of this was not in the show... wtf? I kind of like the edits that the show was not about her act.. but they obviously filmed a bunch of her doing her "act"

I think Hacks is very well made, very moving and insightful. But, for a show about comedy, it's not that funny.

It's not supposed to be. Her old jokes are terrible. It's more about an aging comedian and her relationship with her young co-writer. It's fantastic.

It's not supposed to be a laugh riot; it's more poignant than anything. Smart is an absolute BEAST. Homegirl is killing it in this role. For me, this show is a bit nostalgic. It reminds me of when I was just a kid watching Joan Rivers and Roseanne comedy specials. Hacks is just fantastic tv for those who have a deep love and respect for the art of great comedy.

@@freeinghumanitynow 🎯 I totally agree. Jean Smart is THE best actor at this very moment. Really in the last 5/6 years. From Watchmen, to Fargo, Mare of East Town, Hacks and Babylon. Just stellar performances.

I suppose it's subjective because I find it quite funny. Moreso the interaction between characters rather than stand up tho.
