Hands down, my absolute favorite Christmas movie. Period. From the research I’ve done, all the main characters agreed that the movie was an absolute delight to be in. That fact just adds to the joy that is the “Miracle on 34th Street” experience.
Ludicrous that during the segment Jacobson did not mention/utter the name of the male lead, John Payne…NOT ONCE. Payne, usually know for acting in Westerns, did an admirable job as O’Hara’s love interest. The look on his face at the end of the film is priceless and memorable. Naturally, Gwynn stole the show but there were clearly four main characters. Why totally omit one? smh!
John Payne also acted in some of the most hardboiled crime film noir ever (I've seen one) and westerns. He was versatile but had a sketchy personal life. (Who didn't?)
I thought the same thing. Certainly his role (screen time and as in importance) was equal to Maureen O'Hara. Who noticed versatile Gene Lockhart as the judge in a couple of the scenes shown?
The absolute best Christmas movie. I’ve been watching it every year for over 60 years. It’s heartwarming and beautiful. And it makes me believe in Santa Claus all over again.
This is the Christmas movie that starts my holiday season. Around Thanksgiving (It's a Wonderful Life ends it New Year's day) Natalie Wood gives one of the best child performances ever seen on film.🎅🎄❤
Great movie indeed. Sadly I was too young to appreciate it 20 years ago when my great-uncle gave me its VHS for Christmas. Back then, all I cared about movie-wise was Star Wars and other blockbusters, so I never even watched the video my uncle got me. I've since become a fan of Golden Age movies like this one too thanks to TCM and other similar networks.
The one scene that was apparently cut out of the movie, and the one that cemented the movie in the hearts and minds of people who watched it was at the end of the hearing when the District attorney realized that he needed to buy that football that was promised his son by Santa Claus. On Christmas Day, it shows the District Attorney and his wife wondering where the football came from under the tree as the store was closed preventing him from buying it. I seen the movie in the theater, but the DVD version doesn't have that scene.
I miss when this film, and the other classics “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “A Christmas Carol,” “Going My Way,” “Bells of St. Marys,” “A Christmas Story,” and “The Bishop’s Wife” were constantly broadcast over many of the cable channels for a month after Thanksgiving right up to Christmas.
When a lawyer proves in court that a lovable but deluded old man is Santa Claus, a cynical woman and her cheerless daughter regain their sense of faith and wonder.
i'm a Subt teacher and i am in this Kindergarten class room with 28 children. They don't listen to me when i'm alone in the classroom with them. They run around, get out of their chair, talk to other students. I have no control of the class and sometimes these children hurt themselves and fall. What can I do to get them to listen to me and take back control of the class?
The old farts who complain that they don't make them like they used to annoy me. But equally annoying are the ignoramuses who dismiss movies in the '30s and '40s as corny. Movies now are more sophisticated visually, but movies back then had better scripts. Stagy and slower paced, yes. But the writing still carries them.
Jeremiah Chapter 10: 3For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. 4They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. 5They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good. 6Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O LORD; thou art great, and thy name is great in might. 7Who would not fear thee, O King of nations? for to thee doth it appertain: forasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like unto thee. 8But they are altogether brutish and foolish: the stock is a doctrine of vanities.
Jeremiah 6:10 “To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.”

Watching this movie each year is a must. It’s a holiday staple that’s a really good movie.
..it wasn't about big stars in the films at that time but familiar faces that brought out comfort ....comfort and joy..Merry Christmas 🎄....
One of the best holiday movies ever! I was revisiting the movie over Thanksgiving weekend on Disney Plus.
A real film with real acting and no CGI...
Christmas isn’t complete for me until I’ve watched this film. 🎄
And Die Hard and Lethal Weapon.
I watch it every holiday season.
There are many great moments in "Miracle on 34th Street," but the little Dutch girl is really magical.
I been watching the dvd of this movie on Thanksgiving since 2003.
That courthouse scene is classic...when the post office delivered all that mail, you Believe ❤
Been watching this movie since I was a child in the 50s. Every Christmas it's a must watch.
I miss seeing this every yr. like I used to, since I was a child, before all of these exclusive 'platforms.' A lovely, timeless film.
It’s free here on UA-cam.

He was a lovely light romantic lead and could do comedy. Underrated actor period.

easy big fella
I agree. Payne was the glue. I love him.
The remakes cannot hold a candle to the original "Miracle On 34th Street."

Natalie wood is my favorite actress. I wish she was still around.
❤
She was a very talented child actress
Simply one of the finest movies EVER!!! 🎅
We have it on disc and watch it every year!
No BETTER than This.
Hands DOWN..
I loved this movie even the 90s one too
Our family watched it last night. Very entertaining. Good script
Nothing can come close to the original
this does be my fav version
Kudos and plaudits for mentioning this milestone. THIS is the REAL DEAL--not those ersatz remakes. Hope you had a Merry Christmas.

Pity. Sith Lords rarely care about such things.
@@lewstone5430 Well I guess I'm the exception, heh.

Natalie Wood did what was very hard. She was able to move into adult films without a hiccup.
@aboxoffrogs She was exceptional .!!!
No mystery Natalie Wood could act from age 8.
She really had to fight for Rebel Without a Cause...no one saw her as a bad girl. If she hadn't booked that role who knows what would have happened.
I watch this movie every year- both this version and the 1994 version.
My late father's favorite.
Merry Christmas
Miracle34street
Cheers toyou
My favorite Christmas movie ever. Edmund deserved the Oscar and will always be the one and only Santa Claus. The film has true warmth and sly humor.
Fabulous!🎄🙂
1:29..."Natalie Wood as the girl who believes him..." She DOESN'T believe him; that is the jest of the movie.
Until the very end, that is. 😉
Such a good movie ❤❤❤❤
More Scott Eyman, please. One of the great film historians.
A Lesson in History 🎅🏻🎁🎄
There was a second tv adaptation that aired on NBC TV on Friday November 27 or 28,1959 with Clown Ed Wynn..playing "Kris Kringle".
Yes, that's Central Park West where the parade still happens.
When a lawyer proves in court that a lovable but deluded old man is Santa Claus, a cynical woman and her cheerless daughter regain their sense of faith and wonder.
A far better story and film than the dismal, over-hyped "It's a Wonderful Life".
lolololol
To paraphrase the HHGG observation on Trin Tragula, George Bailey is "a thinker, dreamer, a speculative philosopher or-(as I would have it)-an idiot"
elf no not a christmas classic
No mention of John Payne...shameful.

The Greatest Christmas movie ever was released July 22, 1988, so why is June unusual?
Np REMAKES EVER compare
Love the anti-psychiatry message.

They should have listed Die Hard and Lethal Weapon.
they were celebrating the 75th anniversary of "Mircale on 34th Street." No reason to mention either of those movies.

Ok. And the meaning of today's sermon is????
Dude...if you don't like Christmas trees, fine. But don't ruin everyone else's fun.
Jeremiah 6:10
“To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.”
" ... including the most famous, in 1994 ..."
Really? 🤨
The most famous REMAKE was in 1994.
@@jazzyd312 I’ve seen it once I liked but not as much as the original
@Manuel Orozco Definitely a fan of the OG.
What did you expect from a pretty-faced zombie who reads whatever's off a teleprompter?
@@jazzyd312 There was more than one?! 5:21
