- Herringfleet Mill was already around 100 years old when Charlie Howlett took it over in September 1923. He remained the marshman here for over 40 years.
After the mill was restored in the 1950s Charlie Howlett was invited to conduct the official opening, on 25th July 1958.
This film was produced in 1971.

This mill is now in a right state! June 2024 was down there at the weekend. It will soon be lost unfortunately.
Lovely footage. He is a real character.
Amazing character
Less than a mile from my daughters house, and she has done a glorious screen print of it. Lovely to see the mill and the l'boy in action.

Fantastic video, what a great character
I now live in Somerleyton and am wondering who owns and who is protecting the mill now so it is not lost?
The mill is owned by the Somerleyton Estate. They use an image of it on the footer of their website: www.somerleyton.co.uk/
