Does Polywink's rigging service work for faces that are slightly asymmetrical? I've noticed most of, if not all examples, have been shown are using symmetrical faces.

Yes - symmetry of the models is not a criteria in the process
Polywink's blendshapes, rig and animation work equally on asymmetrical models
