The Click Spring channel is actually trying to build one currently from the CT scans.
Have seen this mechanism in person. It's in the national archeological museum of Athens. Quite impressive, - I believe it's regarded as one of the earliest examples of a mechanical computer.
If you haven't seen his videos take a look at Clickspring on YT, a very skilled Australian guy who is recreating the mechanism using hamd tools that would have been available at the time
I suspect such devices were far more common than suspected, because if you look at the wheel on a crane or use on various catapults the basic premise still was there on a larger scale.
I'm imagining that it's Bud talking at the beginning instead of Ben.
1:01 - plot twist - it's actually Bud's left kidney telling the tale whilst smoking a corncob pipe as the camera zooms in for the benefit of gravitas.
The UA-cam channel “Clickspring” is making an Antikythera Mechanism. His channel is amazing, especially if you later see a tour of the tiny workshop he uses.
There’s a great series on a UA-cam channel called clickspring of an Australian guy rebuilding the antikythera mechanism using tools of the period
Really enjoyed your insight. You should do more of these! And I'm also grateful my memory is awful and I'll forget most of this stuff come release time. Do you think they'll have the gumption to include a digital Connery cameo?
I won't be able to watch this now without imagining it being projected onto the side of a cat.
You would think magic is something Indie would be a believer in at this point, one would think that watching your father restored to health by water from the cup of Christ might have that effect on you.
Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.
Or having people around you melt and explode (even if his eyes were closed). Or being possessed himself and made to do things he wouldn't.
Isn’t “dorky scientist guy” at 14:25 Mads Mikkelsen?
Harrison Ford in "Indiana Jones: Tenure - Why won't they let me retire" 🤣
The thing is that Harrison Ford has to have enough money. Why does he keep agreeing to make these horrible sequels 30 years after the last one was made? It has to be for money, not for any artistic notions. Did he piss all his dough away?
@@mopenstein The Inland Revenue Service, California property tax, if I was famous I'd rent in LA, through a company I shared with other stars, and live somewhere else that's cheaper.
It's worth noting that the antikythera mechanism is thought to have been used on land, rather than on ships. They think that it was specifically for tracking the timing for regional games similar to the Olympics.
It seems that after this movie, there will be 3 Indy movies total!
Not speed squares Ben, they are Drafting triangles. All of the drawings under the triangles are topological maps so he could be finding a bearing between 2 areas but i don't see a protractor.
It is said people of the past were more technically advanced and had microprocessors in almost everything.
New audio leaks from John Williams yesterday, sounds like they are going to shoot a new ending. Fingers crossed... (movie will still involve time travel)
Sala has a brother-in-law in Turkey. We know that because he somehow is able to borrow a car from his brother-in-law to follow a trail of clues that begins at Alexandretta, which is in Turkey.
The George Mcfly comment haha yess! Do more of these react videos Ben, I love your wit and comedy. I normally wouldn't watch a react video but your commentary is next level.
I approve of Bud belly reviews
At 13:07, that face wasn’t Greek. It was Ben!
I lost it at “Old man hands”. Then the later hands talk…lol
Do you think they'll have an opportunity in this movie to bring us back to the secret government warehouse? It's been almost 15 years since we've got any updates about the Ark of the Covenant, I want to know if it's still crated up in that warehouse. I expect it probably is, but I need confirmation!
I'm totally at hype level... 2, out of 10. I'd be hard pressed to go out of my way to see it.
The Antikythera Mechanism wasn't a navigational instrument, it was a calendar. It was found by some sponge divers who were blown off course. It's the only such device ever found, so while it clearly was part of a tradition of such machines given the level of complexity it shows, they were sufficiently rare that no other devices of this type were found in wrecks.
@@TomLentz Yes, that's why the Antikythera Mechanism isn't useful for determining your position. It's a calendar. It gives celestial body positions for a single place in Greece, not taking an input of celestial positions and using that to predict a location.
I liked how you zoomed in on the picture of bud. In a way you where squishing that cat
I will be shocked if this is good. The de-aging is meant to carry to much of the film
You've got a great humour, I would love to watch a secret movie stream of Indiana with your commentary & jokes 😉
12:01 - This is 100% how movies are made these days. Blockbuster movies, anyway. They'll generate a bunch of images/ideas, then try to string them together in some, not necessarily coherent, way.
Thanks, now I don't have to watch it!
Also, a UFO in an Indiana Jones movie? They'd never do a silly thing like that!
This has vibes of This Old Tony's "ORIGINS (feat. Clickspring)" - time travel featuring a fellow guy who in his free time attempts to recreate antikythera
reupload without bud's belly in the back ground he is all i can see lol. glade to see another vid ben have a great day.
For me Indy ended with the 3rd movie like most trilogies do.
bell and clock are the same word in some languages(for the two different things, as in you 'ring a clock/bell' to make a ding sound and look the time up from a clock/bell, more specifically I i think it comes from german, though I don't know german.. but kello from finnish is both a clock and a bell depending on context the word is in and pretty sure it comes from german clock, so a flying clock could just be a flying bell).
I think "Clock" in English comes from the French word "Cloche" which means bell. I read that the concept of keeping track of time (closely) was introduced by monks to know when to pray so the most important part of that was hearing a bell at the correct time not knowing the time
Clock (Uhr) and bell (Glocke) are different words and mean different things in German.
9:26 - "They've used a computer to change him into George McFly"
Argh, they messed up. Everybody knows if you want to turn someone into George McFly you need to hang them upside-down. That's just how it works.
I'm just happy that this movie is not about the (formerly unknown) daughter of Indiana Jones who will take over the franchise. And who is -of course- better in every way.
So you are happy that it's the granddaughter of effing comic relief character "Marcus Brody" that is better in every way (and will likely take the hat at the end)?
@@oldguy9051 I was being sarcastic. The Critical Drinker made a nice video about this trailer which makes it clear that this film will be another flop written for "modern audiences".
So this is Indiana Jones and the Flux Capacitor?
Please turn up gain a little! I love you giving movie thoughts over trailers. I think I'd even like it as movie reviews. Funny commentary!
ClickSpring YT channel has entire series dedicated of replicating the Antikythera mechanism with simple hand tools. IIRC It tracked planetary positions, celestial events like eclipses and sporting events. There are only a couple of contemporary written descriptions of such devices so they were not common.
Antikythera mechanism, I think it was used to predict the movement of the stars and planets
You are correct. This is the first I've heard of the "GPS" explanation, which really doesn't make any sense to me.
Just to point out the part of the desk and hat is the same desk from the Indy game teaser from Bethesda.
Lovely insights.
Your videos are just as good on the 2nd and 3rd time watching them.
I would watch it. I would wait until it's like 4 bucks to "rent" on some streaming platform.
Yeah if there had been some other Indiana Jones movie made after The Last Crusade and it wasn't any good I might be more firmly committed to not bother with this one... But even though that didn't happen I'm still kinda thinking I won't bother seeing this one at the theaters and wait for it on streaming or DVD.
Nonchalantly referring to this as the trailer for that FOURTH Indiana Jones film, I can appreciate that
I'd watch it... if I could hear Ben Heck-ling it (see what I did there?) like Mystery Science Theater. That would improve this movie like 200%.
OMG that would be the perfect name for it! Maybe I should do it. I am OF COURSE a huge MST3K fan.
The movie has a very fuzzy background, I want to pet it's tummy! But the time travel explains Indy looking younger in some scenes, I was wondering if they were just that inconsistent with the CGI anti-aging.
The movie will open with a flashback action sequence in WW2 (like Last Crusade did with River Phoenix) But there's still gonna be time travel.
A dial of destiny huh. Is that a golden compass of sorts?
I haven't seen the actual trailer (out of fear, cuz... Indy 4), but I can see them playing it off that the time machine worked and was made, except on a mission back in time, was lost.... Say, I dunno, *_200BC?_* 😏
I think your assessment is, otherwise, spot on.... but, I imagine will suck crystal skulls.
I'm just glad we have the original 3 to go back to..........
Hey... Kinda like SW! (pre-SE, of course; glad I got the individual movies around 2004, with the unaltered versions as a bonus disc [DVD], for a best-quality un-molested childhood)
Oh, BTW, there were already Nazis in the early 30s. So perhaps the 20s would make more sense? 🤷♂️
that totally is the Millennial Bacon and of course they got Han Solo to pilot it. I'm curious your thoughts on the new Willow trailer
Is the dial of destiny going to be used to stop indy 4 from ever being made? Nice concept.
The problem with "The Phantom Menace" for a subtitle was that he was neither a phantom nor a menace.
LOL oh boy, do you still not know who the Phantom Menace was? It was a double meaning for not just the fact that Sith had re-emerged in hiding, but that the main "menace" (NOT Darth Maul, who was freaking awesome, but instead Darth Sidious) was hiding in plain sight, much like a "Phantom". Also note his name "sidious" is a derivation of the word Insidious, which means something harmful happening covertly. It's literally a genius title.
You know, I've never heard that explanation. But at the same time, Maul's face is the only thing you saw on the marketing at the time. It was only natural to conclude that he was the referenced menace.
@@the_beefy1986 True, but that's exactly why he's the phantom! A hidden villain behind the distraction! Could also potentially make it a triple meaning with Anakin to ultimately become a phantom menace too!
If we're going back in time can we bring back Alison Doody's character because Nazi or not she was far too attractive to die...
Sense of impending doom cat belly. So ominous and fuzzy.
"Die Glock" is German for "the bell". The word "Die" is pronounced the German way which sounds like English "Dee", not like English "Die".
So excited for this 4th film in the Indy franchise. I did hear that some people did make a fan fic movie back in 2007-ish, but that's obviously not canon.
If an Indians Jones movie involves time travel, shouldn’t the plot be to travel to the future to prevent the 4th movie?
They hide the plot in trailers these days because they know, THEY KNOW!, as soon as the majority of people have any idea of what the real plot is, people won't go and see it.
Like you Ben, I Love the Indiana Jones movies. Call me pessimistic, but after Star Wars and everything else that seems to be happening to films I love, I'm just not going to touch this. I just don't need things I love dumped on and spoilt any more. Would love to know what you think of "Fate of Atlantis" the old Indy PC game from the early 90s. I think it might be my favourite Indy property.
The beauty is that things we loved are still there to be loved. Let them make their garbage cash grabs. I wouldn't watch this new Indiana Jones movie if Walt Disney came back from the dead and offered to pay me $8 to waste my life. I got better shit to do. Including rewatching any of the first 3 Indiana Jones.
@@mopenstein hahaha. Right on brother. I used to think as you do, they should just roll the dice, maybe the new thing would be good... but now I see how much it can 'water down' the property. I guess it comes down to is it art, or is it commerce.... I think we adore art, but people gotta eat. Wisest thing to do is to gatekeep your own mind. Stop letting crap in.
Oh YEA, 5 days after my 55th Birthday...YAY...!!!!
Srry guess i have too be that guy lol but is Bud's last 3 digits 420 on his tag crazy man lol. Forget what old Modern Marvels was talking about the Antikythera Mechanism really miss the old history channel. And the logo screams DuckTails too me.
UA-camr Clickspring has been building an Antikythera mechanism if anyone wants to learn more about it.
For a UA-cam Rabbit hole, you can watch an Aussie remake the mechanism(ua-cam.com/video/ML4tw_UzqZE/v-deo.html). Its actually garnered some university research credit. Beyond that its just wicked cool watching him make it.
Well, Attack Of The Clones sounds to me more like a Perry Rhodan or E.E. Doc Smith story, so there you go.
Sounds a bit like Indiana Jones across the 8th Dimension. (plot kinda reminds me of the Buckaroo movie)
Hope its half as good as Hell boy.
Siskel and Ebert I mean Ben and Bud Hecks disagreement about the Indiana Jones 5 Trailer- Part 9 life's? Just a good looking kitty Bud is.
I'll watch it with the excitement and anticipation of a young child thinking too much. I will never get the image of Balock's fly eating out of my mind though. Now that's an actor, a man that can eat a fly and keep on acting. Nobody ever sees it until pointed out to them. Slurping, young fly and Yummy, yummy it goes into my tummy and I feel fly loving me. I was too busy writing this shit to watch your video. I'll be right back after watching your video. I've had 30 years of Lucas films doing whatever they liked.
Time machines always make me laugh simply by the how implausible they are. If one was to travel just a year back, they'd arrive in outer space simply because the earth and the sun are moving pretty darn fast through the milky way.
One year? Try 7 minutes! You'd either be in space or inside Earth. I like good time travel stories (like STTNG Time's Arrow) but they're all "multiverse multi-timeline" junk now, like Avengers Endgame.
Hey Ben, please consider making more menards cheap electronics videos, they’re so much fun!
5 & below also has cool stuff you could hack 😏
I'd like to see that myself. Our 5 Below has next to nothing of interest. You should see Menards' brother in another state (Roses). It looks like a wasteland here.
Ben, miss your Vids man...
The end of that trailer... Like Indiana Jones has never known gun > hand weapon. If only that was in a previous film...
Everyone knows the best way to kill someone is to shoot at the wall above them after they've ducked.
There's rumors this movie has had ABYSMAL test screenings.
Congratulations, you have successfully recognized the reversal/callback to an iconic scene from a prior film.
Why would they not just aim down. 🤔
Great, very informative, anti-guns and Russian machine guns especially. I like how you figured it was end of WW2 with castle exploding. For a while I thought Indy did it. Looks like we know the plot now, but I’m still going to enjoy every minute of this movie.
Dial of Destiny will allow him to turn back time so that they can have a new actor play new-young Indy which will let them continue the series forever. Because $
"I'm getting too old for this crud" (PG version of the line) -Indy lol I've been watching too much of your videos because now I do Sean Connery and Harrison Ford impressions in my customer service calls lol and also really would loved if they did the Fate of Atlantis game that was on MS-DOS into a movie
why didn't they just make it the movie adaptation of Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis from Lucas Arts?
Indiana Jones 6: The mystery of who drank the prune juice and soiled their undies!
There only 3 Indiana Jones films also only 3 Star Wars, 3 John Wicks, 3 National Lampoon's vacation films, 3 Beverly Hills Cops, Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen Ocean's. Police Academy and FNAF? Ain't nobody got time fo that.
aliens, time travel and next up "Indiana jones and the waking up from a dream after being in a coma for 10 years dreaming about being an action hero that he once saw on a poster"
4th Indy flick???
You tuber 'Clickspring' has built a real antikath thingy, and bloody time travel ?...cheers.
Ben check out clickspring and his series on the mechanism
"Those stories, they're not true."
The series peaked in episode 3, manely the music & the golden hour lighting. Lions loved the reveal of the invisible pathway.
if you heard about it from the "History" channel, you'd better check a more reality-based source lol
I'm getting too old for this!
Ben Heck is synonymous to: spoils everything. you may watch a video about 3d printers and get a random spoiler about ...i don't know... let's say the bible.. "in the end everyone geos to hell..."
My understanding is that the substantial delay was that the people in test screenings all but revolted about how bad it was so big changes had to be made. I could be wrong though.
Everybody keeps talking about the rumored ending (they probably shot it but I doubt it stays in) But yeah. The whole movie could be bad. Look at the end part with all the people shooting a wall for no reason. WTF?
@@BenHeckHacks Ya, we'll see I suppose. I have a bad feeling the real macguffin is going to be Indy himself. There for the sole reason of advancing the plot to make way for lady Indi, or whatever her name is 😆
I almost always movies with time travel. (BTTF being the obvious exception). Uhhhhh. Worse then adding aliens into the franchise. 🤷🏼♂️
Something I've noticed since making this. The shots of Young Indy.... He looks a lot younger than he should for a post Crusade WW2 Indy. This lends credence to the rumor that old and young Indy "team up" in the early 1930s
2 Juniors?! I always thought it was funny that Connery and Ford were so close in age, Seemed odd to be playing his father. But Connery was so good at Ramirez I think that got him the part.
