Rob please please please send the car to get atleast the interior painted it wound be amazing to see just one of your cars have a pretty gt3 like white painted cage and inner body!! Love you you kick so much ass🏁
moving the fans back from the rad to pull air from both the oil cooler and the rad/intercooler space at the same time is going to cause the fans to pull air from the path of least resistance, and whichever heat exchanger has a higher resistance to airflow isn't going to get much airflow at all. your going to want to test those areas with an airflow meter and watch your temps under load to ensure it works 100% for ya.
Great point, wouldn’t even have ri thought about that. He did mention the radiator is extremely dense and can cool very well so I have a feeling it would not pull much air through that as opposed to the oil coolers.
When at speed the fan does nothing, it's the frontal area the determines where the air goes. Fans can even reduce flow. In race cars they often don't have any but rely on blowers when they come into the pits. But for a car like this they will need a fan just for any standing time.
@@RedBatRacing true, but pikes peak does have tecnical turns that require slowing down, and as you climb the mountain air density drops, and so does your cooling efficiancy. Pushing 1000whp at a high altitude puts a lot of strain on the cooling system.
@@damonkaufman it would be interesting to do the maths or more importantly a practical test with this car to see at what speed the air flow exceeds the fans. Anecdotally around 35mph is considered a cross over. You would only be doing under that for a few seconds at tight corners then well exceeding it. As for altitude, the fan will be pumping the same thin air so I expect the maths to be similar. It's having a radiator that's spec'd for the highest altitude that matters. I don't have a shroud for my fan so air can flow around it when on the track. But I've never run at high altitude, so wouldn't know what other pitfalls would be.
@@RedBatRacing Anecdotally, I can see the coolant temperature get colder when I turn the Air Conditioner on (which activates the radiator fan) when cruising at 75mph in my FD RX7. If it were me, I might try for slightly smaller coolers, a very well-ducted puller fan for each, and a good path behind the fan that avoids the weird airflow effects of the tires.
That description of what a turbulator is was beautifully executed. Simple and to the point, without adding useless fluff in the explanation just to sound more academic.
This build series really came out of nowhere and I am absolutely LOVING it. It's so full on. Wild to think the 3rotor is going to be your most 'complete' racecar at the end of this process.

You might want to look into IC/Rad water sprayers. The problem with heat transfer at altitude here in Colorado is the dryness of the air, and dry air is a terrible heat conductor.
Being that i live in Colorado springs I would suggest dividing the inlet of the ductwork going into the radiator and intercooler to help split the air between the upper and lower portions of the heat exchanger. I cannot wait to see this in person!!!!!
Rob, I love what you’re doing with the rotary scene, you’re the bomb! Just wanted to knowledge share some stuff: Steel/Steel alloys have strength under tension, and are weak under compression. When a sideways force is applied to a pipe, one side of the pipe is under tension, the other side is under compression. Typically the side under compression fails first and the pipe will bend (instead of tear)
i remeber seeing this car for the first time when you ran the rob ferretti challenge with tommy fyeah haha. thing was so hagard barely ran and always thought it was going to catch fire. everyone hated it/you lol. just didnt know what you were doing yet, but now you have become one of the most beloved people in the rotary community. true inspiration and a trip seeing how far this car has come. keep up the great work..one of my favorites to watch. pikes peak, lets go!!

I F'kn love to see the development. Even from the start of the video to the end. Literally learning and developing on the fly. Continuous growth! I cant wait to see the end product!
Rob, if you don’t have space for headlight buckets, use just covers to plug openings and just push top part in, a little bit. So it creates narrow slit for led strip up, not down and it won’t interfere with ducting. I think no one has that. Semi closed is cool looking, but this might be more aero friendly and also iconic looking
Would be great to see some figures of cooling capacity with double stacked radiators against some spacing as the heat transfer must be fairly high when stacked? Awesome job guys!!
Okay @RobDahm You Killing Me. Why All The Awesome Videos Dropping Back To Back Like This Man. I Can't Want To See What Your Brain About To Do With This RX7. Fab Work Is Awesome Too
Love you Rob, your work is the coolest. I bought an FB rx7 and 13B for it and wanted to have it ready to drive up to the hill climb this year to watch your run, but had to cancel because I have a surgery on my head on the 7th and won't be recovered in time. Best of luck, see you next year!
My 05 2.7TT allroad is running a three core aluminum radiator for an RS4, large oil cooler, larger PS cooler, larger twin intercoolers, all AN lines, and air ducts.
Rob use the 13BCosmo waterpump crossover style you will have one somewhere in ya parts. The system everyone uses is used from 1968R100-1992FDRX7 and is on good for street applications
The choice to extend the front for bigger radiator is very interesting. Might have been better to do rear radiator to keep original car dimensions, better weight distribution, and much more coolant in the system because of the long lines running to the rear.
Love your work guys. You inspire me with my build. Thank you for all this knowledgeable info / little tricks eg the little rods to stiffen up and triangulate things is a great idea that I never thought of. Idk if you did or didn’t but i would machine couplings on all the connections between the tubing and the actual frame so if you ever need to pull the engine or anything in the front end you can pull that whole tubing section out
Someone probably already said it but why not just move the engine rad to the rear? Been done for years in rally cross and more recently in drifting. You are more reliant on the fan performance (rather than natural air flow) but moves a massive obstacle out the way. Also remove the stacking of the IC which helps airflow through both.
@RobDahm I think you need a summer boat project, rotary mini jet boat. And then go down to Florida and visit Cletus McFarlin at the freedom factory. A lot of Florida UA-cam’s group ride together in mini boats.
