      This particular breeder will be contributing to the decline of the Jagdterrier. The jobs that working terriers are bred for demand a temperament that isn't conducive to being a family pet.

  • @locosinjuicio
    @locosinjuicio 4 роки тому +171

    Sorry that one never represented this breed correctly.
    It's a hunting terrier for Fox, Badger and extremely good one wild boar.
    It's not a Pointer for birds or blood Trailer. This breed is doing not bad on blood trails but their high level of energy makes them loose easily the focus and concentration.
    Here in Germany we never recommend this dog as family pet because of his high level of energy and low tolerance level for other dogs same as strong pray drive that results in leg biting of playing children.
    This dog results only to be a nice family dog if it can work few hours a day. At least the work can be ratting but I would be careful by farm animals. A Jagd Terrier considers a fully grown bull as a opponent that barely reaches the size to be a match.

    These dogs are meant for the field and woods, not the show ring, I understand people trying to put a positive light on certain breeds but I wish people would stop trying to neuter these gladiator breeds like the jagd, and apbt and dogo’s and others that really work and hunt and are fearless... let these dogs do what they were bred to do

When I saw the Working Kelpie in the FSS, as well as the Australian kelpie!!!!!! OMG I was enraged! There's already a show version. Why do that to the working version just because it was separated with its own breed name! STUPID!

      Well... let these dogs do what they want to do. I have a one, taken from a shelter when he was 2yo, he had spent some time in a forest, living in a wild (seems he run away from a hunter or hunting). Quite challenging as for such breed to take care of, right? Now he lives in a city, rather small apartment in comparison to country side houses. He is a "gladiator" outside, however in the flat he is kind of a lap dog, especially when it comes to go to sleep with us. Adoption agreement did not allow us to keep him in a doghouse (hard to have such in a flat) or to "use" him as a hunting dog.
      You are saying these breed is meant for field and woods... Have I done something wrong?

    Have one. I had a lot of dogs before and jagdterrier is the hardest to learn. She killed all moles in my garden and sometimes she manages to catch and kill even a bird. She hates all strangers and every time she tries to bite them (but only in the garden, at home she is the sweetest dog I've seen). But if you see you as a part of a family, she the cutest dog.
    If you consider buying this dog, be ready for difficulties. This bred can be very independent and dominate you if you gonna let it. It's also a super active dog,

    In Finland jagds are mainly used for hunting below ground, like fox, badger and raccoon dog. They also hunt deer and can be trained to retrieve from water. My pup is 5 months and his sire has even hunted lynx. They're really intense and are not afraid to loose their life or get their face chewed during the hunt, they will give their all regardless. This is a breed that should only be used for hunting!!

    Note: the husky was a neighbors dog and was very agressive. One day the husky jumps the fence and attacks the terrier while no one was home.
    When we returned we saw a very proud terrier standing by the unfortunately dead husky.

    This is a purebreed gamedog that has a must need to burn energy in the woods. It's not a bird dog. It's not good for apartments. It will get you a lawsuit quick for killing the neighbors cats or dogs. Some people need to just get a lab and leave these gamedogs alone.

    I agree with the poster below me in that MANY cases AKC recognition means an unrecognizable breed. The most obvious is the breed no longer looks like it's supposed to. Some examples are: The real Kuvasz is supposed to have a slightly wavy coat. Go to ANY dog show in Europe and you will see this. Go to a AKC dog show in America and you will see a fluffed out coat. Many breed standards of these working breeds state they should be shown in a natural state, with no excessive grooming except for sanitary reasons around the rear end or in between paws. It's sad to see people ruining a breed just to win ribbons. And let's not EVEN talk about the Border Collie since it was AKC recognized.....

    Jagds are not blood trailers, if you buy one for this purpose, youll be miserable, as theyll be miserable. They need WORK, and TO hunt min 45 days a year. Want a Blood trailer? Get a Teckel/Dachshund or Bavarian Hound.

      I've seen a Jagterrier mix work as a narcotics K9 in Germany so I guess it's a yes... but their drive and energy level are through the roof, they make a Malinois look sleepy in comparison. They need a very experienced handler.

    • @littleblizzard7591
      @littleblizzard7591 4 роки тому

      guest user I was thinking they’d also be good for search & rescue and cadaver dogs. Not necessarily for someone who has been dead a long time but if there was blood at the crime scene they might be able to find the body. But if they’re bonkers with energy they could be too difficult to train.

      Honest advice: DON'T.
      This is the one breed that does not belong in the hands of anyone who isn't a pro hunter and works them out in the field daily. Jagdterriers are the most extremely high drive hunting dog you can find with a prey drive unlike any other dog. Any prey they find, will be torn to shreds even if it's your children's pet bunny or cat! Also, they'll destroy your house when they're bored.

    Can I trust this breed off leash on a farm? I want to use this in the barn for rodent and vermin control. And I don't want to use a pit bull around my Live stock guardians. It won't end well for the both of them. I don't want any clashes and I know they tolerate smaller dogs much better.

Even though ours is not a hunter/working dog, there's no way on earth I would leave him off lead near any other animals to be honest except other dogs and he's fantastic although even the local Doberman gets put in it's place constantly - Jagd really do have no fear at all.

    Everyone in the comments is like 'this is not a companion dog'. Let me tell you - I have a jagdterrier. I adopted her from local shelter and only few months later I found out she's a jagd and everything that goes with it. We don't hunt, never did; but I decided instead of giving her back I'll try to love her and give her everything I can. We do agility, obedience, nosework and tons of different activities. She had giant separational issues, but it takes a 2h walk with various activities to calm her and get her to stay at home alone. She's very dedicated, loving, sleeps in my bed, does what I want like 99% of time. The best dog I ever had - a jagdterrier, but not a hunter.

    • @urbanmongrel1283

      Oh your story sounds the exact same as ours. We rescued ours 6 years ago. Sleeps on the bed, loves the cuddles, has massive anxiety if he cannot see us and needs a couple of hours a day running around. We have local dog fields luckily so he gets to play and run like a crazy thing which keeps him pretty calm at home. He's a clever little sod and eerily watches everything as if he is working it all out. Fantastic pet so would also have to say that they are great pets, have had no issues whatsoever with children as they all fuss him as we walk. He will get very agitated when he smells something like a cat or sees a bird etc, more agitated than another dog would be when they see a cat for example.
