    Lexapro was a life changer for me.
    I’ve had anxiety and depression for most of my life and at age 65 started taking it. The heavy cloud I had over my head all these years finally disappeared. It’s made a huge difference in my way of life. Only wish I found it earlier!

    I was prescribed lexapro a couple days ago, 5mg. I had a panic attack and high anxiety the whole first day. I went to my doctor that same day and she said she had never heard of lexapro causing anxiety. It absolutely caused my panic attack because I don't really get them. I've maybe had 4 panic attacks in 36 years. She lowered my dose to 2mg and I'm feeling better and less depressed already.

    • @4manda4llison
      @4manda4llison  4 роки тому +3

      Some people are much more sensitive to medication than others, especially those with anxiety (we feel everything lol). My doctor was surprised that I was having a reaction at 5mg too, just slowly taper up and you’ll do great! Eventually you won’t feel like you’re on medication, and you’ll start feeling more calm.

I did feel weird on day 3 when I got up but cannot describe the feeling. Felt a bit strange that morning. I do feel good that I finally went to see a doctor and get help. I’m glad to hear you are doing better. The best part of this journey is that either every day will get a bit better, or you’ll realize soon that maybe you should try something else. But lexapro has a high effective rate, so chances are you will get used to it! Not a doctor or licensed professional, just speaking from experience :)

    Hi Amanda, thanks for sharing. I am one week on lexapro as well (5mg), for anxiety/panic disorder. I am wondering how you are feeling now? This first week had a lot of bad symptoms for my anxiety/panic attacks (increasing anxiety, double vision, some lows), the doctor actually prescribed me xanax to help. I found like you, I have read a lot of negative stories/comments, which just sorta aggravated how I was feeling. However, I found suddenly that I might be breaking through the anxiety/panic yesterday night, I was able to fight off the paranoia/panic with a lot more ease. Today was the first morning I didn't wake up with a racing heart. I am hopeful. (I did meditation yesterday and some yoga, maybe that is what helped as well?)

      Hello! First off, congrats on starting your journey to becoming yourself again, and know that you are not alone. Yesterday I noted that I was 100% over the physical symptoms/side effects, but I did notice a large drop in my mood, and my anxiety & paranoia is still hanging around, feeling basically how I was right before I started taking the medication. I think my body has adjusted to the Lexapro and now would be the time that I would increase, but we are waiting for my blood results to come back before we do so. My appetite is still suppressed and I'm noticing I'm getting full quicker, I wonder if this is a side effect to the depression or the medication as I was feeling pretty low.Keep me updated on your process!

      With that said my depression has greatly improved, but my living conditions have improved too. I believe a combination of putting myself in an environment that makes me happy in conjunction with the medication was really what I needed.

The appointment was quick and I basically told him that I was there to tell him about the anxiety. He told me that a combination of medicine and counseling is a good approach. He prescribed Lexapro and the dose is 10 mg daily. Today will be my first time taking it. I am thinking of doing so at 8:00 a.m. and then continuing to take it at the same time each day. I do sometimes feel like I am making a mistake. I am a little worried on how it will affect me. I do not suffer from depression, but over the past several years I have been experiencing what I believe to be anxiety. Becoming independent is challenging for me. I know that I am not alone though. Stay strong! :)

      Ian Joseph Nunes hello! How are you feeling today? Today marks 2 weeks for me and it's like something has clicked in my brain and I'm feeling pretty good! I was recently softly diagnosed with bipolar II (we found abnormalities in my thyroid so looking into that) so I hope this feeling isn't just hypomania. I took my 2.5mg Lexapro today along with .25 klonopin and the combination seems to be working great. Keep me posted on how you're feeling, and I hope you can get back to feeling normal very soon!

    • @iannunes2910
      @iannunes2910 7 років тому

      I am happy that you are feeling better! I will use your story as encouragement. I am sorry that you are having trouble with your thyroid. I have not yet experienced any horrible side effects since beginning the Lexapro. I feel tired sometimes, and I've been yawning frequently. I am not yet totally comfortable with the idea of needing to take the medicine. I will be scheduling my first visit with the councilor soon. The woman that I will be meeting with is a licensed independent clinical social worker. I have worked with speech therapists in the past.

    • @4manda4llison
      @4manda4llison  7 років тому +1

      Ian Joseph Nunes the yawning is a totally normal due to the increased serotonin and should go away pretty quickly. It's always frightening thinking about being on a daily medication, I was definitely hesitant. What made me feel better is remembering that just like it's completely normal for a diabetic to take their insulin every day, it's normal for you to take your medication every day. The brain is an organ just like any other, and sometimes it needs a little healing :)

      BeautifulHearts101 thanks girl! I take mine with a mood stabilizer to make sure it's not increasing my mania and anxiety. Thanks for sharing your experience with me :) I struggle with acne already so I wouldn't even notice haha

      Jenefer Bateman Hello! So I just increased my dose to 5mg a couple days ago, since I was very sensitive at the beginning my doctors wanted to be sure my body was fully adjusted before increasing. In other words, I stayed on 2.5 for about two weeks. I have been coupling my lexapro with .5mg klonopin to keep the edge off, as still I have issues with fits of internal aggression, anxiety, and paranoia. I am not exactly where I'd like to be just yet, but I will tell you that I am
      no where near as depressed and anxious as I was before I started. To summarize, give your body about a week and a half to adjust, if things get better then you'll know it's right for you, if it does not, you can always try a different medication in the same class. The good thing is that every day you wake up you should be feeling a little more happy and calm than the day before. Keep me posted!

    I told my doctor that I have anxiety and panic. He gave me this for the depression. Now, you say it causes panic? I don't need that.

    I’m on 10 mg day 2 and I’m just sitting here palms sweaty heart going crazy wondering if I should keep taking it. It sucks that I know because I have took it before that Xanax would help not the full bar but .5, so how would I tell my doctor this. They look at me all tattooed up Mexican and think to themselves “he just wants to get high”. I’m taking something for my anxiety but it’s making it worse idk what to do. Thanks for your video i needed it

    Ignore others who criticize , they will suffer worse on day the Karma, for being mean to you, depression is a hard thing, I used Lexapro not the worst, I now went to Kratom a leaf from a tree ground up into a powder, I got great results, if you ever want more knowledge on natural cures just ask, I will leave you an email, we live in Canada, good luck and God bless you, Dale,

    I recently came back from a trip to south America found out a lot about my past and family and father who I never meet plus no exercise and gym for 4 months and started to suffer from depression and panic plus anxiety just like you!;( I started on lexam 10 mg , on my first week I started to have lots of anxiety too and had 3 panic attacks in 2 weeks! I’m also going to record my journey too! It’s been about 3 weeks and I did feel like I felt suicidal at one stage but I went to hospital! I eat ok but I lost so much weight and not matter what I do I can’t put it on ! I feel skinny and unhealthy!;( and I don’t want to do gym or sports as I feel like I’m going to hyperventilate!but overall I’m feeling like I’m able to laugh and do things out and about! Sometimes I’m ok for 2 days but I do wake up and my mind starts thinking about it and immediately I feel anxious! I wanna be able to exercise again and eat more but I’m struggling with that! I also missed couple days on this medication! I’ll start watching your videos! I did develop a phobia on been at a hospital if I think I’m going to have a panic attack..and also many ppl says please get off this meds!;( dunno what to do! By the way I’m in Australia! Thanks for the video and hope you’re getting better✌️
