I think we now like them because we understand what they are singing about - we have had our own share of their Poetry. Secondly, it reminds us a lot - so we can relate, not with the message perse but with events around the time when we listened to this music - mostly by coincidence. Personally, it brings back memories of my parents, my childhood and a lot more good stories , those days when we paid no expenses.
I grew up listening to this music in the early 90s. Back then, we were kids just singing along. Today, many of us listen again for the sweet memories, and the immense meaning in the song. This was a very sensitive and controversial song especially at the time of its release. The then political bigwigs in the UPC government blew steam out of their nostrils...because its poetic message rhymed well with the ongoing Museveni bush war. I met a daughter of this late legend at my church congregation. Amazingly, she was lead tenor in the church choir. I was saddened when she told us she never saw her father.....both have such wonderful voices!😊

Reminds me of the mid 1980s while at MUK when the NRA took over power in Uganda. We used to listen to this song and interpreted its meaning to different fighters.
