Thanks so much for this video as it was oddly just what I needed at this precise moment in time. On Christmas Eve 2020, our Santa themed Snow Globe slid off our mantle, shorted out our AV system and spewed glass all over the place. This happened just before dinner, as we were poised to watch our favorite holiday movies, none of which we could watch by the time I cleaned up this unexpected mess. At least the Santa Snow Globe will finally look nice again, after I try these steps in the near future. On the bright side, the water in that thing is 35 years old and I've always wanted to refresh it, but never figured out how. Now, not only do I know that it's not that hard to fix this, when it's fixed that lovely old piece will have a new life and look better than ever. Always look on the bright side of life, as Monte Python would remind us now and again. :)
I accidentally dropped mine from Spain today and at first I was in shock and couldn’t process what just happened and then I started to cry and then I thought that there had to be a way to fix it
I just got a snow globe for a gift last month. It has two red cardinals inside that I believe represent my dad and mom who passed a couple years ago. A couple weeks ago my son accidentally dropped it while shaking it and it broke. I cried but told myself..."I can fix this." Just got all my things in the mail today and I will start it tonight. Im so excited to see the finishing product! You got this!
@@QueenAthena0903 Same was cleaning my table and dropped my two bunnies holding hands which is me and my daughter and the globe broke and I was sad and then thought I can fix this but i'm too lazy.

This video is definitely going to help me repair my broken Andorra la Vella Snow Globe. I put it in my already extremely packed travel bag and then the snowglobe somehow manage to end down at the bottom of my bag. After struggling to put my laptop in my bag many times, shoving down my laptop hard...found out i was breaking the snow globe the whole time by doing that. Thanks for the video!
So I just got a $89 Seattle snow globe and as soon as I got it to the car it fell out the bag in the parking lot and shattered. 😭 I literally almost cried and it was the only one being sold so..I went and checked online to see if it was being sold but only like 2 on EBay and another resell website (very rare item) and then I thought okay im not going to pay that much so there has to be a way to fix it. I am beyond thankful for this video! 😭😭
How did you get the figure out of the base? And do you have any recommendations for removing any glass left at the base? I just broke my favorite snow globe, and I was so happy to find this video
The glue was old so it just came out. I would suggest thick gloves to remove it and handle with care. You can try glue solvents, heat or careful prying to remove glass, but be sure to use safety equipment and ventilation for any fumes.
Would this be possible on a large Disney Snowglobe with a bunch of smaller globes instead of the one big globe? I’m trying to repair one on my Fantasia Snowglobe. I could use some help/suggestions on what I should do. Thank you
Oh, man. I just moved, and I packed all my snowglobes with extra padding. They made it to my new place. Yeah! Picked up the box to unpack, and the box slipped out my hand. There goes ALL 8 Beauty and the beast snow globes. I was so mad at myself I couldn't even cry. I just knew I could find out how to repair them on UA-cam-versity.
Hi, in the video the replacement snow was poured into the globe in a liquid. Was that distilled water or glycerine? (Since the latter helps the snow float as you said). Thank you :-)
I need to find the globe to replace one that broke when we moved. It's 25+ years old. Chim chimney from Mary Poppins and I want to try and find a globe to repair it. any itdeas? ty
Thank you! I finally got around to fixing mine but I’ve tried three different types of snow but none of them are working correctly. I was trying to use the little snowballs because they look most like the other snow globes in the matching set but they stay floating on the top of the globe once full and gasket in place. Side question: Does it need to be vegetable glycerin? Thanks again!
If you need to break the glass, I would take a towel you're never going to use again, cover the globe with it, put on eye and hand protection, then break with tools. If the glass is glued in and won't come out, look for glue solvents that will soften or dissolve the glue. Be careful with any chemicals and glass pieces!!! Always wear protection and use chemicals in a well ventilated area.
Omg ok I ordered the new glass and got my water and alcohol all inside of it, my figures are from a Disney music box snow globe that broke about 10 years ago and I’m surprising my sister with it being fixed! One of the figures broke so I just used e6000 to fix it, my PROBLEM is the gasket, when I tested the gasket without water to the globe, I was able to squeeze it in just fine! (I Am using the original gasket it came on, the replacement seems quite thin)Now that I have my water, I have failed over 5 times trying to get the gasket it, that’s what broke one of the figures, my thumbs are blistered...it just will not fit! The rubber of the gasket they are on (which is the original Disney one) is quite thick. I get it on the globe neck with the water filled and I’m able to press down some sides and then I work all around, and a side seems to be super stubborn it get into the neck, but I got it to fit dry! I try to get it all in but it just won’t push in, sometimes it just tips over inside and one side will sink, I’ve had the whole thing just be inside submerged in the water! Sorry for this long comment, any help you can give is appreciated! The globe is 6”
I would suggest using the new gasket. The original may not have been made for human fingers to insert unaided, or may not be as pliable after all these years.
CollectPeanuts.com thank you! I had hope since I got it on dry once but with the water it’s impossible, do you know if there’s a way to make it more pliable? If not I’ll glue it to the other gasket
@@h2oworld240 wd40 can make some plastics more pliable. I'm not sure what you're old gasket is made of exactly. I did put a little glycerin on the gasket when I put it in. It makes it really slippery though.
Be sure to use the alcohol and distilled water. That should make sure nothing can grow. If this has happened, then you'll need to pull it apart and redo it.
why do we need to put alcohol to kill germs in the globe? just curious since im gonna fix mine too. Wonder if the alcohol effect anything, if i dont use it.
The water may turn cloudy or green if you have organisms living in your globe. Best to eliminate that possibility up front. It's not expensive and it insures your hardwork isn't for nothing.
Hello, I tried this and all of my snow bits are floating and have tiny bubbles stuck to each one. What did I do wrong? 😩 I logged the snow, but it won't sink. It's only sinking a few pieces at a time and it's been a week! Still all floating. Please help!
@@Collectpeanuts I soaked the snow for 24 hours in a jar. I asemble it because the snow sank. As soon as I put it in the globe and put the gasket it, it all grew bubbles and went up and floated. It's not in the base, assuming I messed it up and have to take it apart.
@@randomfrog1196 I'm not exactly sure. I soaked mine for over a week because life happened. Perhaps just giving it some time will help sort it out. If you can help the air to escape, then you won't have the bubble problem.
Clay could be a good alternative to using your fingers. Just push it into the glass good, then pry it out with a needle nose pliers. Haven't tried it myself, but what I would start with.

I'd measure the base opening and find a globe whose opening will fit. If it comes with a new gasket, use it, especially if yours is old or warped.
