- OZEN Life Maadhoo has been on our list for a while and we were so excited at the opportunity to finally stay at the resort on our last trip to the Maldives. The location, reputation and generous all-inclusive plan had us hooked so read on to learn more about what to expect from this fantastic resort in the Maldives.

Resorts “near” Malé often get a bad reputation in the Maldives and it’s honestly a bit misguided. There are dozens of luxury resorts within boating distance to Malé that offer guests the same untouched, serene environment as you would expect from any isolated resort in the Maldives. Ozen Life is no different. Located in South Malé Atoll about 45 minutes by speedboat from the airport, Ozen Life Maadhoo offers guests an impeccably blue lagoon, beautiful swimming beaches and a lush, tropical island.
If you’ve seen some of our other reviews in the Maldives, you’ll know that lobby and check in is not your typical hotel arrival experience and it’s often quite difficult to get 100% right. Lobby and check in begins the moment you arrive at Velana International Airport and are greeted by hotel representatives on arrival from your flight. We were coming from a domestic flight from Park Hyatt and before we even exited the airport door, two representatives from Ozen were waiting for us. They immediately introduced themselves and grabbed our luggage from us and we were whisked off to relax in the Ozen lounge before our private transfer to the resort.
Ozen Life Maadhoo features 95 villas with 49 of them being overwater (Wind) and the rest being on land (Earth). We were checked into a Wind Villa with Pool, which is a 1200 square foot villa that features a large interior living space as well as a patio with extended pool.
The interior of the rooms have been beautifully refurbished, with brand new glass windows, updating wallpapers and decor and new touches to the bathrooms. They are currently working on redoing all the roofs of the villas and repainting so we do hope that that elevates the exterior style of the rooms. The siding on the villas is a bit dated and while they did repaint, they could use some more thorough reparations on the siding and privacy walls.
Ozen has an enormous suite of facilities across the property that make it an excellent choice for guests looking for fun, adventure and relaxation. There are a lot of great facilities that have been refurbished recently, making things feel a lot newer than the exteriors would lead you to believe.
The Indulgence Plan at Ozen is very flexible and inclusive. We were very impressed with the offerings that they both honored and the expectations they exceeded, from the deluxe speedboat transfer to the complementary activities. Some of our favorite facilities were the wellness-related options, including the complimentary activities. We can highly recommend the floating meditation and yoga classes.

Gear as always! Having been 3 times to this resort I agree with ALL you say. The proxomity to Male in combination with a location that still feels rather remote is great!

I would really appreciate it if you could help with a couple of short questions. Are there any restaurants that are excluded from the all inclusive plan? Could you also advise on the best way to book? (hotel website vs travel portal)

No- all restaurants are included in the plan as long as you book 4 nights. Even the underwater restaurant is included which is very cool and rare to experience in an all inclusive.

You guys hit the best places. How do you find the time to hit the Maldives every year? The price is one thing, but how do you guys get the weeks away from work necessary to travel so much. More important, how can a mere mortal who just bought a day planner free up his schedule to make these visits while still being able to afford them? You guys are my heroes....

You do this full time!!!! Man, I have to figure that one out!! The world has enough trial lawyers. I can't return to Maldives next year but next two years definitely: I'm thinking Ailafushi or Pullman for 5 days, Dhigurah local island for 3, and then another high end luxury- maybe Ozen, St. Regis, or the other Hilton where I can use some of my points. However, there are only 2 islands where there is anything to do: Hard Rock and Kuredu. Maybe after I've read your top 20 list, I can pick the next 3.

I loved Pullman's very social environment too. Ozen was a fun island with a lot of activities too so could be a great option! We are 1 hotel away from 20 so hopefully by early 2024 we will have that ranking!
And as the video states at the beginning, they are hosted at most or all of the resorts which means they are not paying for their stay. They create content which makes other people want to come here.

I had a general query if i book any of these resorts in maldives can i make two seperate bookings in the same resort as in 2 days in beach villa and then a seperate booking for 2 days in water villa so that I can experience both? Will they consider this kind of bookings?

Wanted to ask what month did you go? In case you went southern atolls from Male in monsoon season, was it different than northern side? As far as I understood, northern part during june-september have much less rain when comparing to southern atolls. Thanks!
Hello! Thanks for your comment :). Honestly, you can't really judge the weather. While there are less ideal seasons historically, rain in recent years cannot really be allocated to very specific months as we've been to the maldives in high season and been rained on and low seaon with no rain. In fact, when we were in the far north end of May a few years ago, it rain the whole time so honestly, who knows. The seasonality of the Maldives in terms of peak and low is more driven by holiday schedules. I would say base your holiday time on your best travel period for your schedule, rather than the potential for rain :).I hope this helps!

Any idea how much does a private dinner cost here with basic setup on beach?
Hey! haha i feel like he always looks different!! I think he shaved maybe in this video? For the private dinner, they do include a private dinner for honeymooners which is a nice touch :). I believe they also do this for return guests, based one what others have said. I am not sure the exact cost of a private beach dinner outside of the included ones, but based on the reasonable activities prices, I don't think it would be too high.

Questions: Which is a good travel agent for this? What did you do for sim card? Is there any other hotel in Maldives that you think is best of the best? TY
@MRSTEEL15 we have an international plan on one of our phones that we typically use, so we don't need a a SIM card typically. However, there are several offered, but if your not planning on going to local islands or moving around a lot, a SIM might not be necessary. All the resorts have very extensive wifi coverage. That being said Ooredoo seems to be the preferred option. As for travel agents, we are actually travel advisors ourselves and have direct relationships in the Maldives, which usually let us get the best rates, or at least great perks at most hotels! As for which hotels are best, OZEN is amazing, but so are soooooo many hotels in the Maldives. It really comes down to what your most interested in as they all have pros/cons, and of course what price you can get. Hi guys - thanks for all the great videos you make. If you would choose between Emerald maldives and Ozen Life which one you recommend for great water, sea life, great food and excellent all around experience?
Also does Emerald provide snorkeling trips for free (house reef) or is an extra charge? Can’t find this information anywhere.

Hey there! Thanks so much for your comment! Hmm personally, the quality of emeralds food was higher for sure. The one thing we liked over ozen at emerald was that they had sommeliers and always brought bottles of wine with your meal instead of by the glass- it felt very fancy. Ozen did this if you asked sometimes but not consistently.
Emerald does not include snorkeling trips - you do get one free excursion but it’s fishing or a sunset cruise so from that perspective I’d say Ozen has a better deal with the free snorkeling trips and all the added amenities. I also love the free massage treatment at Ozen.

My son is very interested in snorkeling. I hope the reef is nice. I am debating between beach villa and over water villa. Are there a lot of mosquitoes by beach villa? Thank you so much!

They go to different spots depending on the weather and sea conditions and there are some great reefs nearby within 10 minutes so I have no doubt you’ll see some amazing things :) the trip goes out twice a day and you can go as many times as you want :). There’s not a great reef at the hotel itself so the snorkeling tour that is free is definitely the best way to experience the amazing reefs of the Maldives!

Hi! Thank you for the video. 2 questions: 1) were there many families when you went? What was approx. The ratio of families vs adult only occupants? 2) are the speciality restaurant included in the all inclusive package (indulgence)?
Hey Catherine! Thanks for reaching out. We didn’t see too many families actually - especially out on the overwater jetty. There are typically more families in beach villas. Also, the underwater restaurant only allows kids at lunch so if you eat on the later side of dinner at any restaurant or for dinner in the underwater then you’ll rarely dine with families. The speciality restaurants are all included as long as you book 4 nights :). If you need any help or have any questions feel free to reach out anytime!
What are the chances of seeing turtles, manta rays, and whale sharks when you go on snorkeling excursions here at ozen??? We’re excited to be traveling here after reviewing your video!
Hey there! Thanks for reaching out! It’s very likely to see turtles and sharks - whale sharks and mantas are not as common and you have to be super lucky to see them! It’s taken us years to finally witness the beautiful whale sharks and mantas but we finally did :) there’s plenty of sea life that will blow your mind either way :) let us know any questions you have!!

Hey there! Thanks for reaching out! I would say overall the food quality and inclusions are better at OZEN Life Maadhoo. They also have the underwater restaurant which is amazing, so that makes for a pretty fabulous experience. They are a speedboat ride away and there is no house reef but they do include twice daily snorkeling excursions. Emerald is in Raa atoll which is accessible by seaplane and they do have some reefs on the property so it's better for snorkeling on property, but you do not get the same inclusions as you do at OZEN for the same price. JA is definitely the most high end while Pullman will have the most inclusions overall. Lily beach is mostly a 4 star property so I’d rank that lower than the other two. Let me know any questions!
