RCM _ the strategy was... not stopping at all, am I right? I've just re watched the race and kinda forgot to pay attention to Nasr's race in the beginning.
I really wish liberty would introduce something like an F1 network streaming service where you could watch any race weekend from the past 30 years. I don't mind paying a premium for something like that
Copyrights Can suck IT they simply arent allowed to. Theres plenty of websites that have every single race from 1975 onwards in full hd ( obviously since hd was a thing ) and no ads.
Axel Löfgren No, the chief strategist is responsible for both cars. It's the race engineers, who have some input in the strategy, who are only responsible for one driver each
South4153 at least Kimi has the balls to look unhappy about it. On the other hand, Bottas happily bends over every chance he gets for Hamilton. No wonder Lulu called him the perfect teammate.
More of these! With all these competing media outlets (Sky, NBC, etc) we miss out on a lot of interviews. We'd rather see things like this rather than the typical "Kimi are you going to try to win today?" "Bwoah..." Seriously, well done Liberty! Keep up with this behind the scenes stuff.
I don't care much for the "box box box" expression. What ever happened to "pit this lap"? Also, I like how she geeks out about other teams' strategies.
Nice to see Ruth shake off the stage fright. She refused to do any, in depth, interviews last year lol :] She's come a long way in just one year. For some reason I could see her fitting in well at Williams.
I kinda feel sad for Sauber this year. I think it's a great team with passionate, hard-working people. Yet, they don't get any credit for it due to their results on track. Hope to see them recover soon, it would be really sh*tty to see such a team disappear from F1.
You can studie lots of different things for this job. But you need to be very good at maths. Most engineers have studied things like mathematics, physics or software engineering.
Does anyone rememeber the Ted's notebook where he tried to get an interview from her after a great call for the Hass F1 team? She said to him, " I don't do interviews!" and blue balled Ted.
I remember that Ted Kravitz kept asking her questions after Grosjean's 6th place in Australia 2016 and she just tried to walk away, "I'm a strategist, i don't DO intervieeewwws"
PathNet from DeepMind can find optimal NN for strategies given the various parameters, & replace her job in over 5 mins. It will do it better. Or any other specific DL ANN will also do.
LOL. Love how they had the quick frames showing her left hand: she's not married. That ring is in the middle finger, not the right finger. Smart is sexy. She had me at "permutations."
Best Strategy in formula 1 so far (in my opinion): 1998 British Grand Prix - Schumachers stop and go penalty in the last lap to win the race. That was a strategy masterpiece.
Rijswijk Eikelenburg Yes I know he was quite good the first half of that season but then the other half Marcus was better. It was a great drive by Nasr in Australia but you should not forget that Marcus was on a 7th place in Bahrain where less cars retired until the team cocked up his pitstop. And I'm not saying that Nasr is bad. I'm just saying that overall Marcus was much better.
Great interview! I love hearing these types of interviews with the people behind the drivers. My god the driver interviews are mostly pure tedium. (mostly because of the questions posed.)
J fking W you have to cart on your third. Then be pretty good in that. Then go to open wheel racibg like formula rookie or something. Then you'll make a contract with one of the teams if your good. Then you'll get in the higher formula competitions. And eventually you'll be a f1 driver! (Rich parents come in handy too) Ps. A father that raced f1 is good too
So it is very easy for a "bad" team to take risks like this call. It becomes more difficult, when you are in a top team and have to "cover" the other top teams. I'm pretty sure, if winklehock would have been in the top ten of the starting grid, they wouldn't have changed the tire that early :D
I miss the days when the driver and race engineer figured out their strategy together. We saw some really inspired strategy calls during races from Michael Schumacher sometimes. He'd just out think the other teams. I have a feeling drivers don't really get listened to much anymore if they want to change strategies during a race.
The thing is that 99% of the time, the pitwall has some information that there is no way the driver would have. Whether thats 'pace of other cars on one tyre compared to another' or 'the driver ahead is showing signs of a slow puncture,' it would allow the strategists to make more informed decisions and to use proper risk management depending on race position. In addition, in 2017, there really isn't much strategy to do. It's either 1 stop and maintain position, or 2 stop to try something different but end up stuck behind cars a sec/lap slower than you that you can't pass. The drivers just need to trust that the team knows what they're doing. Of course the driver needs some input, as there will be some (but very few) things that only the driver is aware of but the teams nowadays have data for literally everything.
All of that's true. But the driver's race engineer has all that information as well. Or he could have it easily if there were no separate strategy engineers. I just think the way they do it now allows the driver less of a chance to improve their own chances during a race. Now they're at the mercy of what the team's overall goals are. Even if there's a clear opportunity to do something to improve your position, you can't do it if the team decides they like you where you are. Like Kimi stuck behind Seb in Hungary. Or any number of other races this year where they sacrificed his race by keeping him out too long to help Seb. It would be better if the driver and his race engineer alone were in charge of their strategy and they could operate independently to ensure the best possible finish.
In my opinion this is because most drivers are very young and "unexperienced". They either trust in their strategy-engineer or they have no clue about their strategy. I think this differs a very good and talented driver from a perfect driver! Michael Schumacher was a legend. I know, that many people blame him for cheating here and there, but in the end you have to admit, that he has seven world championchips and tons of experience. He was so long in the business, that he knew everything about the conditions, races, strategys etc.
Nicely done FORMULA 1. Lets get some more of these behind-the-scenes people in interviews. And not only because of gender, place of birth or color of skin.
Christopher Parry Stay positive and you are staying out. Look at dash and boards and, stay positive. Just a reminder, stay positive. P. S. Epic Monaco GP 2015.
Does that mean that Ferrari burn all their data before race day? because even I've been more on the ball over the last two years than their strategy engineers >.< Most recently, I saw the damage to Vettels wing in Canada, wasn't hard to see. He should've also pitted for his second stop about 10 laps earlier, yes he would've been further back, but given what everyone else did on the Ultras he barely touched their lifespan putting them on the second time and yes, he would've had to have overtaken Fernando Alonso again, but with that Honda engine a GP2 car would be able to out drag it.
What if ,on the radio, we say one stop but it means we're switching to a two stop and vice versa. And every few random number of races we switch it to mean what it actually means
Is it weird that I find it kind of odd when you have a driver and race engineer, who are native speakers of the same foreign language, speaking to each other in English over the radio?
Beside the FIA thing they speak English because not all of the team speak the same language, they too have to understand what driver and engineer are saying
It's very smart to take Sauber strategist! Because expect of Spain where they did an awesome 1stop strategy with Wehrlein, this a bit bad there xD Sauber is the only one team to use medium tyres for example or to make 60laps with soft tyres! I agree that tyres are harder this year, but make 60laps in Hungary (not Monaco) with soft tyres, explain me what type of drugs do you take xD
People talking about how bad sauber are, 4 of their 5 points this year came from strategy in Spain and if wherlein didn't cross over the bollard it would have been 6.
So underrated, she is a genius, she single handedly saves Sauber last year with her strategy in brazil.
RCM _ the strategy was... not stopping at all, am I right? I've just re watched the race and kinda forgot to pay attention to Nasr's race in the beginning.
And bankrupted Manor.
Special links?
Copyrights Can suck IT why doing that instead of downloading the whole race ?
dean brickland your avatar is? If its what i think it is, its genius.
I agree with your idea, but there are illegal ways to download races for free
The woman behind Pascal's 8th place on Catalunya
And Grosjean's 5th in Bahrain last year
was she part of haas last year?
Yuri Nator At the start of the year, yes, but she left at some point and was at Sauber by the time they scored in Brazil
E
Axel Löfgren No, the chief strategist is responsible for both cars. It's the race engineers, who have some input in the strategy, who are only responsible for one driver each
Ferrari : Kimi, wanna hear a joke?
Kimi : what?
Ferrari : good strategy
Kimi : Mwoah, i don't get it
Ferrari : That's right
South4153 at least Kimi has the balls to look unhappy about it. On the other hand, Bottas happily bends over every chance he gets for Hamilton. No wonder Lulu called him the perfect teammate.
B. Lalfakzuala he needs that seat
this aged like milk lol
It's obvious that she really likes her job and genuinely knows her shit.
The best strategy...I thought it was Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds at the Singapore Grand Prix in 2008...
This made my day
Plan C crash for Alonso
Its always so interesting listening to someone who is so enthusiastic about what they do.
More of these! With all these competing media outlets (Sky, NBC, etc) we miss out on a lot of interviews. We'd rather see things like this rather than the typical "Kimi are you going to try to win today?" "Bwoah..."
Seriously, well done Liberty! Keep up with this behind the scenes stuff.
We need to see more of her
Amazing to see the interview with Ruth on the official F1 channel! I was waiting for it!
Awesome! Need more of Ruth; she really knows her stuff and communicates well!
I don't care much for the "box box box" expression. What ever happened to "pit this lap"?
Also, I like how she geeks out about other teams' strategies.
Box just Means "boxenstopp" whick is German for "pitstop"
It's the same as in climbing: Clear simple communication. Miscommunication can lead to some very bad things happening.
What a job and what a beauty
Nice to see Ruth shake off the stage fright. She refused to do any, in depth, interviews last year lol :] She's come a long way in just one year. For some reason I could see her fitting in well at Williams.
Jraybay she got links to Ferrari so maybe one day at sebarrari she would get a job
Really great video. I'd love to see more of these "behind the scenes" videos on how the teams are run :)
She's so pretty x
I enjoyed Mercedes' strategy call at Monaco in 2015, that was phenomenal
Bobby K ffs
Y U DO DIS? :,(
Also here's to Champions League success for our boys!
Is that when they fucked Lewis?
I have been waiting for a video about this all my life... and it ended being better than what I was expecting.
I kinda feel sad for Sauber this year. I think it's a great team with passionate, hard-working people. Yet, they don't get any credit for it due to their results on track. Hope to see them recover soon, it would be really sh*tty to see such a team disappear from F1.
SumFortyFan they should have thought about that when they got rid of nasr
Well they'll be sort of Ferrari's B-team next year soooo....
blue n gold 34 I think it will be Giovannazi and Leclerc next year at sauber
blue n gold 34 C-team now unfortunately. Haas is their B-team.
WRL Schumacher Haas didn't sign a ferrari development driver
So they're not a B-Team
This woman basically has been saving Sauber's ass for two years. She needs a damn raise!
BMK500 erm... she's been with Sauber for just under a year
Dominik Wilde Oh....... In that case my mistake
what a passion in her eyes
Finally someone speaks of Marcus great drive in Mexico!
Really nice insight to what some of the engineers do. Would be brilliant with more of that! :)
I'd love to have that job? Where did she study for it? How would you study for it?
learn how to get last in a Race, thats it. lol
You can studie lots of different things for this job. But you need to be very good at maths. Most engineers have studied things like mathematics, physics or software engineering.
Val Nguyen Thanks!
Drunken Hobo
Whats her age?
Nathan Constable She went to Cambridge university
Really cool video! F1 has been putting out good stuff on the channel lately 😊
Make sauber great again!
Great interview! You guys should upload more stuff like this
Bwoah I need you my strategy is terrible!
Kimi Räikkönen your strategy is to let vettel win so it's working brilliantly at the moment
South4153 is it all about Vettel
Kimi Räikkönen yes
icrazyteddy 1 no I bring plenty of money each year
Fuck you, Is your left front tyre broke
she is brilliant, always seems to get Sauber up the field
I LOVE THIS SEASON

More of this PLEASEEEEE!!
Best strategic call ever? Ross Brawn giving Michael a 4 stop strategy in Magny-Course in 2004.
LOL. Love how they had the quick frames showing her left hand: she's not married. That ring is in the middle finger, not the right finger.
Smart is sexy. She had me at "permutations."
I think sauber does not need a strategy engineer because they are always the last one to end the race
until the mclarens brake down
Best Strategy in formula 1 so far (in my opinion): 1998 British Grand Prix - Schumachers stop and go penalty in the last lap to win the race. That was a strategy masterpiece.
For those who wondering, no, that watch is not cheap.
@1:40, wait how do the other teams find out about the radio info from Sauber for example?? 😳
She's a genius
3:18 "Sauber F1 Team" but nothing about Felipe Nasr, all video is about carying on Marcus Ericsson...
Allan Voloch And Marcus wreckt his ass the hole season -_-
And 2015 Nasr rekt Marcus and got 5th place in first race!
I'm just saying that overall Marcus was much better.
no i didn't mean it rude though, although russia was a race Nasr scored a lot in the second half.
Rijswijk Eikelenburg Yes I know👍
Great interview! I love hearing these types of interviews with the people behind the drivers. My god the driver interviews are mostly pure tedium. (mostly because of the questions posed.)
If you like Ruth Buscombe also see Amy Ryan in The Wire.
Very nice, thank you Liberty :)
This should be shown to Kimi's strategy/race engineer
She is beautiful
Best strategy? Schumi 2004 in France, the four stop.
badass lady.....
She did a fantastic job last year with Haas.
Whats the best thing to study to get into f1?
How to drive a car.......fast.
J fking W aerospace engineering
dbox123 i obviously dont mean as a driver... Not that i dont want to but its probably too late for me
J fking W you have to cart on your third. Then be pretty good in that. Then go to open wheel racibg like formula rookie or something. Then you'll make a contract with one of the teams if your good. Bennie g yeah i know haha sorry i meand more on the engineering side. I wish i could become a driver but its too late for me...
Cambridge grad. damn.
She is a beautiful british women in the grid at the moment😍
Interesting video. Thank you!
2:09 in that Frederic Vasseur in the background ?
The best strategy call ever has to markus winklehock at the european Gp 07 last to first in 2 laps because NOONECANBREAKTHEWINKLEROCK
So it is very easy for a "bad" team to take risks like this call. It becomes more difficult, when you are in a top team and have to "cover" the other top teams.
I'm pretty sure, if winklehock would have been in the top ten of the starting grid, they wouldn't have changed the tire that early :D
I know small teams should be given some intention but I think talking about strategies with Mercedes or Ferrari engineers would be more interesting
I would love to have this job.
Oh wait, imma go play Motorsport Manager!
Lewis Levy
Manger?
Sounds like something you would hear on the inbetweeners...
She kind of reminds me of Holly from the American version of the office. WOuld love her job!
Great video
I love this stuff, Liberty Media. Keep it coming.
Love this video

Was going to make a joke about Sauber's amazing strategies but then again Wehlein has scored more points than Kvyat and Palmer combined this year.....
more like this please... super.. content.. F1 thanks.
"Because we don't want to say, that were are doing a 1 or 2 stop"! Haha, Come on it's a Sauber...
Your shitty pathetic point?
@@Clangokkuner Sauber was slow in 2017.
I really love the female british accent!!!
2:51 GG WP for the girl in the background :D
Nicely done FORMULA 1. Lets get some more of these behind-the-scenes people in interviews. And not only because of gender, place of birth or color of skin.
Peter Bonnington: " Copy, copy. Box, box, box, box".
Guys, what's happened? What's happened guys?
Christopher Parry Stay positive and you are staying out. Look at dash and boards and, stay positive. Just a reminder, stay positive.
P. S. Epic Monaco GP 2015.
Wish Haas still had her! She haaaaas to be one of the best strategists on the grid.
this was nice
I guess I finally found my dream job!
Most of the stuff on the vid you already know anyways,
except that RedBull "double shuffle"
Learned something new again!
Does that mean that Ferrari burn all their data before race day? because even I've been more on the ball over the last two years than their strategy engineers >.<

she's perty
most beautiful woman of Formula 1
What if ,on the radio, we say one stop but it means we're switching to a two stop and vice versa. And every few random number of races we switch it to mean what it actually means
1:33 Ok so, Plan A = 2 stops, Plan B = 1 stop... Noted.
She seems to be very smart. That's so hot!
Is it weird that I find it kind of odd when you have a driver and race engineer, who are native speakers of the same foreign language, speaking to each other in English over the radio?
I feel the same way
My guess is that they have to speak in English so it's 'broadcastable'
Alonso used a lot of Italian driving for Ferrari
Vettel's fucked
Beside the FIA thing they speak English because not all of the team speak the same language, they too have to understand what driver and engineer are saying
Ha! I remember when she was at Ferrari, running around with that thermal cam, spying on Mercedes. O_o
And um how got the points in Brazil 2016....? That's right Felipe Nasr!!!
It's very smart to take Sauber strategist! Because expect of Spain where they did an awesome 1stop strategy with Wehrlein, this a bit bad there xD Sauber is the only one team to use medium tyres for example or to make 60laps with soft tyres! Bwoah, that was surprisingly interesting lol
my god wat a beautiful hair she got
At this point actually your Plan A has become what you call Plan B
Sounds like a dream job...
Liberty give to us a video with a beautiful strategy woman, thanks !
I thought she didnt do interviews
Woman of the video : Max Verstappen
Woman*
*waaamen
i saw max verstappen family at 3:03 till 3:08 did anyone else saw it
she's hot
How about this for a strategy!!! Put your foot down and go as fast as you can and ask questions later!!!
"Sauber F1 team was able to finish p9" Felipe Nasr is the reason Sauber are still around and it's insulting that she wouldn't even name him.
People talking about how bad sauber are, 4 of their 5 points this year came from strategy in Spain and if wherlein didn't cross over the bollard it would have been 6.
When Liberty has nothing else interesting to make a video about... Why not make a video about me!
Pastor i loved your move against Perez in Monaco...season highligh
