Noticed it for the first time as well 😅 Couldn’t have been any better timing - you hear someone yell ‘get it dowwwwn’ in that classic kiwi tone of annoyance like the tarp covering your old boat at home had split or something minor 🤣
I don’t mind this. I just personally prefer the foils of the modern boats as they are much faster and exciting. Not that these aren’t exciting, they are just a bit slow
so this was better than racing AC75 - it's like watching paint dry... Slow boats with massive separation racing for a couple of hours. Never ever would you be selling this to a none sailing TV / media audience.
I agree these days, because times have changed a lot since then. But once upon a time, they DID sell exactly this type of racing to a non-racing public all over the world and especially in Aotearoa NZ. I still have my lucky red socks that we all got back in intermediate school 😊 In saying that, I have no idea why people want to go back to this, other than romantic nostalgia and a love of traditional sailing. Current, foiling AC is still amazing for the same reasons - cutting edge tech and top tier sailors on the controls. People seem to forget AC has always been exactly that!
Plus expenses, who can afford this type of racing. The average sailor will never get close to racing these machines,.why not do a budget America's cup and bring back the human factor. These new boats just show a couple of heads moving about with helmets. I hate to say it,but a this rate, the boats w 19:08 19:08 19:08
Yeah, they'll be all automated, seriously going around the top mark at 50knots,imagine trying to call Bouy room at that speed with a whole fleet of them!
Spinnaker pole snaps after the finish, classic. I never noticed that when I watched it live

Love these beautiful massive boats
What ever you say about Coutts, he's a genius sailor
Thank goodness we have foils now
I had to go 21 years back to see Dean Barker not just ruin a start.
Pro trick : watch series on Flixzone. Me and my gf have been using it for watching all kinds of movies recently.
@Rocco Leland Yea, have been watching on Flixzone for since december myself :)
this was coutts, yes?
@@lancehaysom47 this cup but not this race. It was locked up pretty good so they subbed in.
If they narrowed the course, shorten the legs it would we exciting seeing these boats in a constant tacking dual.
19:10 those same words repeated 21 years later!!!!!
Back in the good old days before the flying boats. This is how it should be. Those flying boats they use today should be in a class of their own.
God defend New Zealand 💪🙏🇳🇿
