Thirty-one years ago a small band of wildly creative people came together from around the globe to create a little indie wonder that blew up in theaters all around the world. However, bringing the turtles to life was no small feat. Each turtle required 4 different collaborators: "The Puppeteer", "The Man In The Suit”, “The Stuntman” and finally “The Voice Actor”. All four played an integral part in bringing Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael to life. 30 years later the fans still crave the nostalgia of this slightly dark and sweet tale of four ass-kicking turtles and their zen-master-rat-father, Splinter. This video call series tells the untold and never heard before stories of how the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles came to the big screen.

Even as a boy I thought it was retarted not even scary. And then again. I thought beetle juice was not even scary. I saw my self as the girl who move in their house. To love the spirit's. But hey TMNT is so fucking retarted. It's like asking a snapping turtle to be a TMNT. Or asking a panited turtle to be to be a TMNT. Not to Mention asking a sewer rat to go be a snapping turtle. Or a painted turtle to be their mentor's. At becoming a TMNT. Dumb as a box of rock's should had never came out.
When did you guys change your name from the turtle den to cowabunga company
Robbie Rist man, voice hasn't changed one bit. Always Mikey
It's hilarious how much their actual voices sound like the turtles they portrayed. 😂
I know right?!
It's great to see Michelangelo and Donatello reunited again.

They were both the best parts of the movie!! Great Chemistry!
Judith Hoag is THE ONLY April O’ Neil.
Fr
The other one was really was trying hard and her funny annoying laugh that was so blaitantly noticed in the apartment scene in the begining of part 2. Part 2 with her talking to herself like a mad women. One of the flaws of part 2. Never saw that in part 1.
Damn straight!
Ehh she’s alright. I liked the second actress she just didn’t get anything great to play off of.
Part 2 April was better,! Plus this one works for the elite! Ps. Look up Gene kim n Chuck missler on UA-cam
Thank you to Judith, Robbie and Corey for this, along with everyone behind the scenes...really enjoying this series so far.
You guys ALL have defined just how “awesome” the 1990s were especially because you all came together to create a movie that was such of a heartfelt, gritty, and action packed translation of the source material of the pop cultural phenomenon known to the world as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!
So true, Zeke Glenn!!!
Gotta get Brian Tochi, the voice of Leo through all three movies.
I can hear Donatello in Corey's normal voice! This was awesome. Thanks Judith
Because he literally didn't change his voice to voice Donny, dumbass.
"And i thought insurance salesmen were pushy" best Michelangelo line ever
This movie ages quite well, in my opinion. I remember seeing it when I was 7 years old (I can’t believe I’m 38 now) and I loved it. Pre-CGI live action Turtles worked so well and was a testimonial to the talent of Jim Henson and everyone else who brought the Turtles to life. Sadly, the sequels weren’t good.
I was more of a Batman fan, but I had a lot of the Turtle toys. And I have fond memories of the Hostess pie filled with green pudding!
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle (1990) movie saved my life when I was a kid.
How so? 😮
Amazing! Judith Hoag as April O’ Neil was one of my first crushes.
Still the best TMNT Film to this day, and no other Reboot like Michael Bay is going to change that!
It's the best often imitated but never duplicated
@@Booyakabunga No doubt. And I love Corey Feldman as the voice of Donatello. The first TMNT movie will be my favorite.
Usually i'm not one for gatekeeping mentality and all that, or that "everything was better back in my day" stuff..... but I gotta be honest. You're totally right, here. This is one of those cases where that's just how it worked out. This movie really seemed to get everything right, the first time. The drama was on point, the effects and the animatronics, while yes, had a few mistakes in the final film, still had excellent, faithful turtle designs and the practical effects felt real. The magic of the Henson creature workshop really brought them to life in a way that felt lifelike and they felt real in every scene. The acting was on point, the tone was on point, the cinematography was excellent, the characters all felt like they had weight, the writing was very sharp, the direction was very grounded. It felt like the Mirage Comics brought to life, like it jumped right off the black and white pages into live action color. The only problems with the film are essentially minor nitpicks, such as Michelangelo and Donatello being pushed a bit more into the background while Leo and Raph kinda took over the film, Danny felt a TINY bit unnecessary, and the ending was sort of a rushed conclusion. But that doesn't matter that much because none of these things are that big of a deal.
This really is, objectively speaking, from a film standpoint, the strongest film ever starring the Turtles. That's just a fact.
The newer reboot movies were a sloppy, unfocused mess of unconvincing CGI, bad designs, unbelievable and hammy acting, everyone was miscast, the changes to the formula were all very poorly thought out and felt arbitrary at best, and the reboots certainly had no heart or soul to it. Now those reboots COULD have been good, had there been many better decisions made, and with how filmmaking has evolved, it SHOULD have been good, but no one involved in that was thinking about the turtles, they were thinking how to shill a brand for a new generation by making a film that just dosn't hold together at all... and then the second reboot film, was an afterthought and a cheap, rushed, panicked attempt to try and salvage and address the surface level complaints fans had, but STILL wasn't prioritized as making a good film for a good film's sake. The new reboots just felt like no one BELIEVED in the project, while this original 1991 movie, just felt like people BELIEVED in what they were making. In the end, that's what makes a good movie. People who believe in what they're doing, and CARE. If only the reboot hadn't been conceived as nothing but a shallow marketing tool put together by buzzword-obsessed ad executives, it could have been so much better.
That is why this original film holds up and stands the test of time, and the reboots don't.
I think TMNT 2007 is the best. Followed by TMNT 1990.
V The villain and plot was dull but that is a pretty good movie
Wow. All props that Feldman got clean, but on top of that I never knew how hard he was paying it back. I'm floored and humbled. My problems pale.
In these dark times, this brings me great joy. Thank you for this.
Corey Feldman will always be the best Donatello. He nailed this role.
Would love to see a remake or CGI/Cartoon with These guys!.
The BEST live action Ninja Turtles movie
Honestly, as a child, I grew up loving the movie and thought it was amazing. As an adult, I can still watch the movie and believe it has held up extremely well. Seeing this interview and seeing the real humanity of those involved, I can see why it has held up well. We have our quirks and our idiosyncracies and that is what makes this particular movie so great. Thanks for doing this!!!
Thank you so much for doing these reunions. In these trying times, we could use a lot more positive energy.
I hope we get to see you talk to the folks at NECA toys. Their 1990 movie line is incredible.
Got a NECA toys 1990 movie Raphael coming to my home soon. I am hoping to get the rest of the line in the near future. NECA really did an amazing job with these action figures.
I am 43 I will always be a kid...and remember when I first saw the first movie.
I love these reunions! It’s so awesome to see everybody come back and reminisce! 👍🐢
I JUST stumbled on this, and it was something I very much needed to see! Robbie's talk about "get up and do it" was wonderful! Corey is always a blast to listen to (as himself, Donnie AND Slash) and wow! I had to double check the date on this, Judith! If current events were not mentioned, I might have thought this was 20 years ago, with how much you have not aged! Thank you for bringing all this fun and heart to us!
I would love to see all 3 April's in part 3!
@@judithhoag-goddessonfire369 invite paige turco and do a reunion of 2 aprils
I seem to recall there having been a benefit of sorts, perhaps held by Rob Paulson, which featured @JudithHoag, as we Renae Jacobs and, perhaps Mae Whitman? It has been some time since I heard it. But I only heard audio, no video.
Where is my Paige turco !?!?! She’s my April sorry Judith dude
s rico nah bro, Judith is the original April O’Neil. Paige was good too, she didn’t ruin the series as many replacement actors do (EX: George Clooney & batman...), but Judith is and will always be April O’Neil.
@@srico7313 No way man, Judith is April O'Neil, no doubt!
I just hear Mike and Don when I don't look at the video.
I hear Don but not Mike . I think Robbie Rist Changed his voice when he did Michelangelo and Corey used his real voice when he did Donatello .
Judith looks like she could play April o'neal right now 🦸♀️
You guys really look like you make each other happy, seeing you together makes me happy 😁
WOW Judith hasn’t changed a bit she still looks as young and beautiful as in 1990!
It's Always Great to See Corey Man!!! And Judith's Hair is Nothing but GORGEOUS!!!!!
Judith Hoag... whew... I have a crush on you again...
I love this! I'm so grateful for you to be doing this. It brings me joy to see you so enthusiastic about this. This needs more likes!
In answer to closing questions - Would love to see and hear more of Mr John Du Prez. The soundtrack composition took what was already on another level even higher. I'd be floored if he ran temp tracks past us and put a little spin and flurry on something for us in reminiscence of key scenes on here or his alternate choices on scenes. Just check that scene where April is jumped, if it didn't hit home already, that soundtrack really has DANGER driven into the audience. Thanks again for all.
I missed the live showing of this but it is fun to still see yall all these years later. And hear these stories. My favorite when I was 8 and still my favorite being 39. This movie will forever remain in my heart and I thank all of you for bringing this timeless masterpiece
The 1990 tmnt movie was one of the best live action adaptations of a animated series.
This was AWESOME! Thanks for doing this!
Many here have made wonderful observations about this movie as a whole! I just wanna add that the entire movie was action packed, funny, and suspenseful at times! But, the scene of The Turtles vs Shredder in particular was filled with all of the elements and the music was compellingly appropriate for the face off between the well trained yet novice Turtles and their masterful opponent, Shredder. And might I add that the slow motion flips and falls of The Turtles at the hands of Shredder, really made this scene that much more exhilarating! This scene brought the battle to defeat Shredder to life on a big scale! This movie was amazing on so many levels!
feldman was so perfect as donatello. so was judith as april o neal. Just perfect casting. I had only wished she wore the yellow jumpsuit
We love you Judith!
Had a great time watching this, listening to all of your stories. Thank you all very much for getting together and chilling out with us!
This was fantastic, thanks to everyone involved. So sad what happens often behind the scenes in the world though.
Love this cast, love the movie. Corey and Robbie being goofballs sound so much like the voices they do for Donnie and Mikey and Judith is as beautiful and awesome as ever.
I do kind of wish they were actually in the suits for the less physical moments
I have this channel set to all notifications and I never knew about this until 50 minutes after it premiered! It came up in my "What to watch" UA-cam front page.
Same
@@judithhoag-goddessonfire369 totally :) I caught the first one live, here in Australia in the morning. Anything else planned??
@Judith Hoag I would love it if you could interview Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman, the creators of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Loved all three films. I did like the dark gritty feel of the first one the most, but the others are great in different ways.
thank you so much for posting this up!
I didn’t mind the behind the scenes portion and Corey talking about his past. We’ve known he has had rough times, and during the turtles era was no exception. We’re adults now, and I think it’s important to listen to these types of things. It’s safe to say that child actors have significantly different lives than most.
Thank you Judith, Corey, and Robbie for this, and for being a great part of my childhood
Thank you for this! great stuff :)
Things have been rough lately. This made my day. Thank you 😊
Thank you all for this and for those epic childhood memories.
This was awesome- don’t stop these ever!
Thanks for doing this. Loved seeing everyone.
Great interview! Loved all the behind the scenes footage as well!
Thanks Judith! These have been so much fun to watch! Thanks to you and all the other cast and crew members for keeping the hype around this movie alive!
Feldman in "The Burbs" is basically Donatello without the costume and ninja moves. "Pizza Dude!"
It's really great to see all of you guys still out there doing great things.. keep up the good work. TMNT For Life!🐢🔥
love you guys thanks for so much
OMG! THANK YOU FOR THIS. great stories!!!
That was a real treat! Thank you, again, Judith! Thanks, Robbie and Corey!
I knew Robbie Rist as Cousin Oliver on the Brady Bunch before Ninja turtles. when I saw him as the voice of Michealangelo I had a question mark over my head until I saw the movie.
I loved this video you just made. I was excited to see the original TMNT cast after all these years. I’m a big fan of you all and I can’t wait to see more! Thank you Mrs Hoag!
You guys are amazing! Some great advice. We love you!
I LOVE THAT Y'ALL ARE DOING THIS! :D
Haven't had so much fun in a long long time! Loved this so much!!!!! Still a great film... So well done..... Love you Judith!
Positive vibes, dude!
I have been trying to get ahold of judith. I am in touch with the neca toy company and they now have almost every figure for the 1990 movie made for this 30th anniversary celebration. All we need is an April. Neca said they need judith's permission to make her likeness. Can someone please get back to me and let me know if she can contact them and give her ok for a figure to be made? Thanks.
O was Just 13 when my dear mother took me to the movies to see this awsome film !
If they are going to reboot the Ninja Turtles Franchise why are they not rebooting it with the originals? The original voice actors are all still active in the business, Judith looks like she hasn’t aged at all, just beautiful! I would love to know what the Turtles are up to 30 years later.
@@judithhoag-goddessonfire369 hi Judith.Massive tmnt fan from 🏴Scotland
We the fans demand an NECA April action figure😂
Thank you for taking the time to do this event it was awesome.tmnt 1990 is timeless.
TEENAGE Mutant Ninja Turtles. It’s in the name. Ain’t no Middle-aged Mutant Ninja Turtles lol
@@j.nicolosi6647 unless it continued the 90s story over to present day then it would be 40 year old mutated semi skilled ninja turtles😂
There’s been major improvements with costume suits; they’re built with water cooling systems. Ik it’s another franchise, Star Wars fans went crazy to see the original actors. A chance to see the turtles as mature ninjas in their prime, We want this.
@@Izzy8u Agreed they could just call it ninja turtles they wouldnt have to put teenage in it.
love and appreciate you guys for making our childhoods awesome!!!
I've always been a big fan of the original 1990 TMNT movie!.. have been rewatching for about 25 years! Judith Hoag! Thanks for bringing everyone together!
Omg im freaking out lol, april Mike and Don are all talking, im literally picturing the turtles talking lol
You think Corey and Robbie would be happy to reprise the voice acting roles for Donnie and mikey
greatest movie ever
Really great to see you all . Man their was things i didnt know about this is totally rad .
Nice that April O'Neil made the time to interview the ninja turtles again.
Great job with this!
Love this !!
wow.i remember watching these as a kid.loved them back in the days.
I remember Corey feldman voices Magnus MCSM and he was my 1st favorite
To all the cast and crew -- this movie was a HUGE part of my childhood!
I was born in 1981. Me and my younger brother as well as my best
friend across the street would play imaginary ninja games constantly,
many times on a warm summer night in our yard on the street corner...
pretending to be whichever ninja turtle was cool to us at the time.
Seems like we'd rotate constantly. We'd play-fight, hide from cars and
adults, practice moves and missions, etc. My dad cut a closet rod dowel
for a Bo Staff, made Nunchucks out of real wood and jack chain (which
didn't get played with much because it was hard to control and left
bruises easily...haha... needless to say we were no Michelangelo), and
had plastic toy Sais and a Katana. My parents had a metal letter opener
that looked like a Sai and we'd hold it and wish we could play with it,
but knew it wouldn't be safe so would never do more than hold it for a
few seconds. Back in 1990 we somehow knew better... imagine that!?
Years later my friend and I would even write imaginary ninja stories
using many stolen concepts from TMNT, almost all based off this movie
alone. Just for fun, of course. If this and Star Wars hadn't existed,
life would have sucked a lot more. So thank you to everyone who was
part of making this movie!
This was amazing we love you yall
I cried because u just responded 34 years old n a turtle fan since 86 your awesome God bless xoxo
Awesome video! Hearing Robbie talk instantly makes me think of Mikey!. Man, the studio is doing you guys dirty by not giving you guys residuals though. That movie is still being sold on store shelves to this day and should still be cutting you checks (even if it's not much, it's the principal). I feel like the movie/music residual system needs to be overhauled?
Great video once again. Thank you for facilitating these, Judith!
Side note, I honestly had no idea that Corey Feldman did a voice in the movie. Shows how much I paid attention to end credits as a kid.
@Robd1 replies I was 10 years old when it came out... I didn't watch credits. I don't think I even cared about what actors were in a movie until I was in my mid-teens.
This was cool, and the real talk about kids in the beginning has such a tremendous value. Gotta look out for em' at all costs.
These videos are brilliant, hope you guys are able to do more soon!
Mikey biggest Legend , Best Voice ever...!!!!
Seeing this. I would love for you to do a convention reunion Judith with all the original cast. Love what you’re doing. Much love!
Long live TMNT! Forever!!! "God I love being a turtle!" 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🔥🔥🔥🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Love the editing in the video! Keep them coming👍😊
Judith Hoag Thanks for showing how good and how much work went into this movie! This movie is my childhood and is the reason why I love TMNT! There will never be a better cast for a turtles movie😊
This makes my heart smile!!!
this is epic, unbelievable this doesn't have more views
We need more Henson Creatures TMNT. It would be really cool to get a reboot sequel 30 years later with the cast intact.
This is fantastic! :)
such an awesome episode! full of intelligence, love, hope and passion!
That was amazing
Thank you for doing this can't wait for part 3 to hear Ernie Reyes.
Question for Ernie: How hard was it to perform his martial arts moves with the turtle suit on?
This channel is frickin AWESOME!!
Judith Hoag
Thanks for the reply Judith! You’ve made my day. 🙏🙏
Finally get the chance to watch this
Radical reunion! Keep it up and NEVER give up!
I can hear Mikey and Donny in their regular voices but it would have been nice to hear them actually do their turtles voices.
Is IT possible to see Tatsu in some reunion like this ? I know he must be old but damn he was good in the movie.
He was a beast indeed, really had those punk kids in check lmao 💪
I think he died?
@@j.nicolosi6647 Nah, he's still alive
Tatsu actually teaches martial arts over in Japan. He is on youtube with his class teaching karate.
He really never gets any recognition.I dont think they ever did a figure of him either

@@judithhoag-goddessonfire369 Seriously! I mean what he's doing to protect kids is absolutely something admirable and courageous of him! Definitely one of the bravest people I've heard of!
