How do you use automation and transitions in your mixes? Please share below!
I use basic automation within my mix down stage, Volume, Panning, maybe some filtering but as a Dub producer who tries to use the Mixing board as a live, expressive instrument it's a bit of a No-no.
Great tips, amazing so many strategies you can apply! One of my automations are to slightly unbalance the mix, pushing small things that I think sounds great. Sometimes musicians are too disciplined and that can sound boring, so I like to poke them out a bit.

Sara is awesome. Her channel is definitely something to support.
Absolutely! Agreed 100%!
I've only watched a couple of Sara's videos but I'll be looking forward to them in the future. They're so practically applicable when so many videos are entertaining but ultimately don't help.
Yes, Sara is a huge talent! We are blessed to have her on the channel!
Sara makes great videos. She always explains her process in a simple and straightforward way.
Agreed 100%! Huge fan of Sara
Thank you!

I like how Sara explained the reasoning for her automation moves in her examples. I found that most interesting. Thanks!

This is soooo good. I really enjoyed how everything was presented and reviewed at the end. Sara has a great way of explaining and I will definitely check out some of her courses.
Took me a while to get round to this one, but well worth it! Thank you, Sara. 😎
So glad!
Solid advice, thanks Sara
Thanks ever so much Jay!
This was a great episode. Some very helpful insight
Thanks ever so much!
Gained some great new perspective here! This really highlighted for me the creative aspects of mixing as opposed to the largely analytical approach.
After all of the great advice pertaining to the process, which is equally important, as a writer first, I now see how mixing can be just as fun. This also solved a lot of issues I’m having with a few of my current mixes. Wealth of information here.
Thank you 💯🙏🏿
I mostly use automation to designate and maintain focal points, create energetic shifts and widen/narrow the stereo field. But after this video I have several more ideas, including automating some effects sends and side chains to manipulate sense of depth and height. Super helpful having concepts so clearly illustrated. Thank you!
I feel like I’m in a secret club of a few hundred mixer/engineer folks who know how great Sara Carter’s videos are. Every single one I’ve digested has helped my mixing/perspective on mixing and production. Grateful 🙏🏽
Glad to help!

Your voice reminds me of someone I've heard on TV but can't think of who and it's driving me mad. Either way I love your voice and accent.

These are all excellent good practice functions that everyone can incorporate into a mix to add some interest.
When it comes to EDM, everything needs like it needs to be upfront and in your face all the time. Are there any tips to keep things interesting without adding more layers or complexity?
Yes, by not having everything upfront and in your face all the time...
Keeping in mind the focal element at all times will help. You may have to pull a Db or two out of supporting elements to facilitate that. Then there are tips like side chaining, mid-side EQ etc

It's all about choosing what and when to bring things forward

pretty much what I do now, even with my boring crappy ambient stuff
I'm sure it's less boring with automation! Haha!
