This song is truth. So many of us are talented and because we don't look a certain way, we don't get the same opportunities especially in the entertainment industry. While others are appropriated and borrowing and are super successful because of it.
meganjerai *writes this about this song and get A+* Yes! I used comment from this video and copied it and got A+ You took your time cause this is a mini essay
That's just not truth. Many people want to become celebrities and most seldom do no matter what color they are. It is by God's design that you are not famous and out of His goodness. Anyone who doesn't have that fate is blessed rather they realize it or not. It is not your race or your color. Todrick is very talented but in truth, most people can't sing and write and actually have those talents but thinks they do and there are many many people who do have that talent and don't make it very far.
Yo I been writing songs since the first grade Been running from the truth since my first fade To get big cars, to make big stars It takes big scars, better get a first aid Dumb songs are the first played No heart, but they're charting on the first day How you stay brave, when they throwin' you the worst shade? Ones with the talent are the worst paid Anyway, if I have blue button eyes and blonde hay Would I make the magazine on the best page? Be the leading man, if I was less gay? If I was a woman would you try to give me less pay? I could sing for you, but you prefer rap Ask God why he made me out of burlap Porcelain glass is a hall pass where I'm from And... I don't know about you, but I think that's dumb I think that's dumb We the backbone of the green city Never been a model but I've seen plenty Young men and women, tryna fit in Tryna get thin, but skinny don't mean pretty Rainbow, bright colors in the air though Color on the air, but it's rare though The proof is right there though It's not fair though, but they swear "No, what does he know? He just a scarecrow!" Tell me something Why we countin' blessings if they don't count? Yeah, the show is sold out but they sold out And I would rather walk in my shoes 'til the sole's out Yellow brick road, less traveled That's the old route My money built the man a green glass palace Tweedledum ain't what they call it if you ask Alice Why slum, under his green thumb Waiting for crumbs Cause... I don't know about you, but I think that's dumb I think that's dumb Don't find me, I got my own lane formin' Don't mind me, I'm just brainstormin' Do you suppose we could sell our shows And our clothes, with no big booty crows in our videos Will the man never stand for the people Will we demand that our love should be legal Will the land never treat the greens equal Will the fight that they lost become the sequel Cause I'll march till it's done, to the beat of my own drum Cause there's a fight to be won Stand on this post 'til I'm numb, at least I'm standing for some And that we can overcome Cause... I don't know about you, but I think that's dumb I think that's dumb
The last second of the song is so meaningful. The way the other dancers just walked off the stage like they were the heroes, while Todrick and the dancers who were in the whole song are left in the shadows despite all their effort. I really really love this song
This is so powerful. It's beautiful and inspirational that the "Brainless Scarecrow" knows more about media and controversies than the average person, and knows that equality is sooo important to humanity. I understand this to the fullest extent
Todrick is so fucking great man. He writes beautiful meaningful songs, is a fucking beast when it comes to dancing, and is a spectacular actor. He literally does it all and is goddamn amazing every time 👏🏼 we love you Toddy 💖
I love this song "I've never been a model, but I've seen plenty. Young men and woman trying to fit in, trying to get thin. But skinny don't mean pretty" ❤❤
JessicaKnows... &... other great lines like... "The ones with the talent are the worse paid" or "Ask God why he made me out of burlap," "To make big stars, it takes big scars...," "If I had blue botton eyes & blond hay, would I make the magazine on the best page... be the leading man if I was less gay" ...etc, etc, etc... :-)
I legit get chills when the chorus drops and Todrick with his backup dancers are all dressed in black and maintain eye contact while dancing. This video is amazing and I can't stop watching.
How the hell did this music slip under the radar?!? According to the kick counter, it only rocked 15 thousand you-tuberz worlds?!? This is cause for a re-release?!? RE-RELEASE!!! RE-RELEASE!!!
Thank you for releasing each of these individually. I look forward to seeing the rest! It makes it much easier to share with friends who might not have the time or data to watch the full Straight Outta Oz.
This song is so great. The visuals are awesome and the message is so powerful. It also made me realize why I stopped listening to the radio. I finally understand what's missing. The songs are empty, just for money, no messages. Either the texts are simple and stupid or about sex. I am so done with these kinds of songs. Thanks Todrick. Keep going. You're wonderful ❤️
I love this song so much! You talk about about: the contradictions and misconceptions of the music industry, gender inequality, socio-economic status, injustices of sexual orientation, the media and the consumption of African-American culture...but I'm mad confused how you can curate such beautiful, influential work and stand beside a woman that openly portrays all these negative ideals within her music and brand. Do you truly believe in your message on these political standpoints? Or did you do this to be on trend?
Not only is this song a full-on BOP, but you're telling me that it also has truth in almost every single lyric AND it's Wizard of Oz themed? SOMEONE GET THIS MAN A MUSIC AWARD.
i'm crashing the like button i wanna like this a thousand time! i know i know it doesn't do anything! but this bish needs some likes and subs!! Honey you are a true talent!😍 keep it up! 😘 Lots love from the Netherlands
omg. I love so much how you use your musical platform to bring attention to issues in society. I have the utmost respect for you and I think you are unbelievably wonderful. Also, your music is the bomb!
It's so amazing being a day 1 fan and watching you grow and make this amazing masterpiece ❤️ I'm so happy for you so proud of you! Straight outta Oz is pure art
So, just saw his show in Orlando last night, and I think this was my favorite of the numbers, honestly. The dancing was just AWESOME and so tight! I mean, oh my god, the whole SHOW was amazing, but, seriously, the dancing in this one just really stuck with me!
OMG that ending though. I hope I'm not being dumb by noticing it (whether its obvious or not there at all), but at the very end garish blonde 'model' stereotypes got added in front of the actual dancers to highlight the whole point about anyone 'different' being obscured and ignored by the industry. Very clever! I hope Todrick continues to create to this high quality. BTW I also really love this song. Level-pegging with Papi imho.
To add onto your comment (I know it's been two years, so forgive me) the people brightly dressed (and I believe they're most, if not all, white) get really excited and happy and leave the screen. Meanwhile, Todrick and the other black people are dressed in full black and stay in place, their heads bowed.
09/20/2021 Just wanted to say that until I read these two comments that whole ending just went "whoosh" over my head. Thanks for bringing attention to the point. Some of Todrick's points are like a brick to the face, some are so subtle it takes extra effort to spot them.
This is by far one of my favorite songs from Straight Outta Oz it's so catchy and is just makes me want to dance. Great work Todrick keep it up love you.
"Ones with the talent are the worst paid" 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Well
"We the backbone of the green city!"
Yass Todrick talking about how black culture and style is literally what makes these folk money!!!
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Nisee R I caught that too 👍🏿

Todrick isn't nominated for MTV's Breakthrough Long Form Video award.
Now, I don't know about you, but I think that's dumb.
IKR He should be nominated for a grammy for something!
But than again...MTV is pretty dumb 😉 #TodrickHallWrocks
AND GOD SAID "LET THE WORLD BE SLAYED BY THE MOST FUCKING MUSICALLY TALENTED MAN EVER." And THE Todrick Hall was born. 😍😍😍
yasss
YES
YAAAS
AMEN YASS
So true😜😜
Yo
I been writing songs since the first grade
Been running from the truth since my first fade
To get big cars, to make big stars
It takes big scars, better get a first aid
Dumb songs are the first played
No heart, but they're charting on the first day
How you stay brave, when they throwin' you the worst shade?
Ones with the talent are the worst paid
Anyway, if I have blue button eyes and blonde hay
Would I make the magazine on the best page?
Be the leading man, if I was less gay?
If I was a woman would you try to give me less pay?
I could sing for you, but you prefer rap
Ask God why he made me out of burlap
Porcelain glass is a hall pass where I'm from
And...
I don't know about you, but I think that's dumb
I think that's dumb
We the backbone of the green city
Never been a model but I've seen plenty
Young men and women, tryna fit in
Tryna get thin, but skinny don't mean pretty
Rainbow, bright colors in the air though
Color on the air, but it's rare though
The proof is right there though
It's not fair though, but they swear
"No, what does he know? He just a scarecrow!"
Tell me something
Why we countin' blessings if they don't count?
Yeah, the show is sold out but they sold out
And I would rather walk in my shoes 'til the sole's out
Yellow brick road, less traveled
That's the old route
My money built the man a green glass palace
Tweedledum ain't what they call it if you ask Alice
Why slum, under his green thumb
Waiting for crumbs
Cause...
I don't know about you, but I think that's dumb
I think that's dumb
Don't find me, I got my own lane formin'
Don't mind me, I'm just brainstormin'
Do you suppose we could sell our shows
And our clothes, with no big booty crows in our videos
Will the man never stand for the people
Will we demand that our love should be legal
Will the land never treat the greens equal
Will the fight that they lost become the sequel
Cause I'll march till it's done, to the beat of my own drum
Cause there's a fight to be won
Stand on this post 'til I'm numb, at least I'm standing for some
And that we can overcome
Cause...
I don't know about you, but I think that's dumb
I think that's dumb
Sara cool
Thank you.
Good look. We heard the song.
frickin brilliant lyrics
*THIS IS LITERALLY MY FAV SONG FROM HIS CD*
It kinda reminds me of "What's My Name" by Rihanna and Drake
Absolutely. This is my favorite one.
Same it's so good and the rap is so good when you really listen to what he's saying
Completely!! Katie Alexis JessicaKnows
Same honestly this is the most incredible heart felt song as well as water guns
The last second of the song is so meaningful.
The way the other dancers just walked off the stage like they were the heroes, while Todrick and the dancers who were in the whole song are left in the shadows despite all their effort.
I really really love this song
Todrick, I love these new songs your pushing out! Good job!!!
Ryan!! ily bby
ikr!! love you ryan
Who?
You know they were all on Straight Outta Oz
hi ryan
Omg Todrick should have a contest of people dancing the dance in this song. It will be a video montage of dancing.
Or their own style of dance
This is so powerful. It's beautiful and inspirational that the "Brainless Scarecrow" knows more about media and controversies than the average person, and knows that equality is sooo important to humanity. I understand this to the fullest extent
I love the costuming and creativity in Straight Outta Oz
Unless you just don't like music I don't know how people could dislike this video.
true that
You’ve got some homophobic racist sexist assholes to thanks for that because this brings actual problems forward
Todrick is so fucking great man. He writes beautiful meaningful songs, is a fucking beast when it comes to dancing, and is a spectacular actor. He literally does it all and is goddamn amazing every time 👏🏼 we love you Toddy 💖

You preach the absolute truth, I wish this song was on the radio
I love this song
"I've never been a model, but I've seen plenty. Young men and woman trying to fit in, trying to get thin. But skinny don't mean pretty" ❤❤

It's dumb that he isn't on the top charts!!! True talent
DAMN, GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!!!
This needs to be in the charts!!! I love it
It really does. These lyrics are universal.
I don't think it'll be a hit cause the lyrics are actually talk about something that's important
+Nora Dalmy the sad truth
+Nora Dalmy *talking. My grammar in this though 😂
Why doesn't this have more views?! This song had so much meaning behind it!
I legit get chills when the chorus drops and Todrick with his backup dancers are all dressed in black and maintain eye contact while dancing. This video is amazing and I can't stop watching.

isn't it amazing how far Todrick has come since his American Idol days! Just shows when you have true talent you don't need those TV shows.

This song should hit the charts.
If this was a few years ago this would've been the most controversial thing ever
