Seems like an overall decent guy, and he has earned everything he’s done the hard way, including tonight. Great performance by Belal but still felt something was off with Leon tonight. He might lose but he never fights stupid. This is the first time I saw him making the same mistakes and not pro-actively taking it to Belal. And still it was 3-2 to Belal for me. I think he kills Belal in the re-match and takes it back. I hate to say it as a big Izzy fan but I think your comparison is spot on. History has shown us that if a champion doesn’t treat every challenger as if it’s their toughest fight to date, they are likely to lose that belt in short order

.....but Belal is USA based. He wouldn’t have had to train for “3am”.....because that’s like 8pm in Chicago where he’s from. It’s no later than 10pm anywhere in North America. So it was only an early morning fight for Leon / UK / Europe based fighters
So happy for Belal. The UFC is wildly popular now with a huge fan base. There’s something so satisfying seeing the disliked guy win. MMA fans equate who they like as being “good” and who they don’t like as “bad” (skill-wise). It’s comical.

I don't even disagree with having the fight time appropriate for local fans, but even having it at 3am, they showed up. They will lose out on a bunch of sport bard not buying it and Americans really wouldn't fuck with it. They don't care about doing a solid, their job is to make as much money on every event. The arena looked damn near sold out so, the fans may complain but they didn't boycott by not spending money. That's the only way to get a change.

They gave Leon a fighter they can’t stand (both stylistically and politically) a massive road game in a damage over control era. And Leon still got handled in a mostly blah fight for 3.75 out of 5 rounds. No chance they would give a rematch, they’ll be dying to feed Belal to Shavkat even if it’s on inconvenient timing for Belal (O’Malley v Sterling style).
