I was able to see this Documentary (Twice) A must see if you're a Aretha Franklin fan and love God and the Church. No wonder it's the Best Selling Gospel album of all-time. RIP Aretha Franklin !
I'm sorry but I often hear people say that Whitney Houston was "the voice". Whitney had a lovely, melodic voice during her prime, which didn't last long. She truly was a talented singer. But there a difference between being talented and gifted. Aretha Franklin was beyond talented. Aretha was gifted by God. In the black church, we call it the anointing. Even towards the end of her life, as she battled terminal pancreatic cancer, she was still able to bring the masses to tears with her voice. And consider that Aretha smoked for decades. She drank alcohol quite heavily at one point in her life, yet it didn't take away or ruin he voice to the extent that she could no longer perform. Chris Cuomo, former anchor on CNN said of Aretha on the eve of her passing " if you dont belief in God, thats your prerogative, but how could you hear this woman sing and not know there is God"? Terry Gross of NPR radio did an interview with Aretha a few years ago and the radio station aired it again shortly after Aretha passed. At the conclusion of the interview, Terry Gross said that Aretha was one of the greatest singers of all time, and perhaps the greatest of the 20th century. She was the first woman to be inducted into the Rock And Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. Her father told her she would when she was a young child, she'd one day perform for kings, queens and presidents, and he was right. Aretha even sang for the Pope. Aretha was and will always be "THE VOICE". There will never be another. Rest in eternal peace queen. You will forever be "THE VOICE"
Many of today's singers sound nasaly, because this is a step they missed. This grounding in choirs used to be a right of passage for most of the greats.
RIP TO THE ONE AND ONLY QUEEN OF SOUL& GOSPEL ARETHA SWEET FRANKLIN GOD BLESS HER SHE WAS IN A CLASS OF GREATNESS ALL BY HERSELF AND SHE GOT OVER INTO HEAVEN! AND THANK YOU SO MUCH ARETHA FOR SHARING YOU AWESOME TALENT WITH US! AND STILL LISTENING IN 2019!
This girl had a gift. I cant stand to hear people refer to Whitney as the voice. Ive never seen anyone weep when she sang. Ive never seen her recieve a standard ovation on the way to the stage. I saw her in concert in 1976. It was a secular concert and grown men wept at her amazing artistry. I saw her sing Nessum Dorma at the Grammys as a last minute stand in for Luciano Pavarotti. At its conclusion, the entire audience stood to their feet, with many weeping. I heard Aretha's (rare) NPR interview with Terry Gross. Terry said that Aretha has one of the greatest if not the greatest voices of all time. Oh how I miss her. Rest in peace
The soul radiating from that building is unmatched.
I just love that attitude she puts in this, like she is telling everyone what God wants to say to the people. Amazing!
