The stands at Princes Park should be knocked down and replaced with a 35-40,000 capacity stadium, Carlton and Essendon could share it...Docklands stadium is quite soulless, so Melbourne needs a third AFL stadium that has a bit of suburban football heart and soul about it but still be a state of the art venue...imagine going to Brunswick for a kebab or to Carlton for a hearty pasta at lunchtime and then walking to the ground...need that sort of experience back.
It’s sad that the Melbourne based AFL teams no longer play at their former suburban home grounds. What I can’t understand is that AFL is the most cashed up football code in the country, why couldn’t the Melbourne based clubs just renovate their old grounds?
I can still vaguely recall when the STKFC played at the old ground near to the St. Kilda junction. Some years later we would ride our bicycles down Tucker Road to the ground, get a super hot meat pie and watch the boys play. Used to sell Herald newspapers to Barry Breen's mother or aunt (forget which one) at the cnr of McKinnon and Tucker roads in 1971 and 1972. She was a great tipper. Been a Saints supporter since 1965. I lived in St Kilda as a kid in the 50s and early 60,s and used to walk to the Junction Oval to watch the Saints play I attended their last game at the ground Wonderful youthful memories of exciting Saturday afternoons The Junction Oval will ALWAYS be St Kildas spiritual home
Unfortunately these suburban grounds have more or less disappeared from the landscape. More state of the art venues can accommodate night football, which few of these venues are able to do.

VFL GF DO YOU MEAN Grand Final ? If so your wrong about that the only Grand Final at VFL Park (hated the name change )was in 91 Hawthorn vs Westcoast 75.230

Carlton needs to go back to Princes Park. After all, it was the redevelopment that sent them nearly broke.
