- Tim McIlrath is the lead singer of Chicago punk rock heroes Rise Against. In this Windy City episode, we take a look back at Tim’s evolution as a singer and songwriter and the band's incredible breakthrough into mainstream success. Matt and Tim also dive deep into Chicago's diverse music scene, the band's recent headline-grabbing trip to Alaska, singing the national anthem, falling off stages, and much more! - As always brought to you by Sailor Jerry!
While I didn't listen to this podcast on UA-cam, I think I listen it on Spotify
And this podcast is one of my favorite
The Bronx and Rise Against are my childhood punk bands, especially since I know these bands from videogames like Need For Speed
It's like a collab waiting to happen, good to know it was a pretty chill one too
Love to see these bands play together again one day
It's difficult finding the words to express how much this band had an impact on me. They single-handedly shaped my life more than anything or anyone else. From them I found bands such as No Use for a Name and Bad Religion. I can't thank them enough. Also, thanks for the interview!
Same for me! They totally change lifes for the better!
I'm sorry to hear that.
Another great episode even with all the hateful divisiveness!
Super fun, super insightful interview. I've always been a casual fan, but I didn't know much of the backstory of Rise Against. I loved hearing about a band getting treated well by record labels and taking advantage of opportunities rather than hearing about talented bands getting screwed over by labels.
Great work, as always Matt! Thanks dude, see you guys in Denver \m/
Seeing Foos, Rise, and The Bronx in 2011 is what really ignited my love for music. It has changed the way I viewed the world completely and has made me a better person. Thank you guys🙏🏻
I saw them on that tour as well. It was a fantastic experience.
What a rad episode! Nice one, Matt!
It's cool to hear them talk about how good Good Riddance are
Definitely. And Minor Threat, Fugazi and Pegboy. I love those bands
Tim is the best! Drop a favorite Rise Against song if ya got one. "Heaven Knows" is definitely up there for me!
For nostalgia's sake I gotta say Paper Wings or Give it All, Prayer for a Refugee never gets old either.
Sooo many favorite but If I have to choose The Black Market and Dancing for Rain 🤘
There are too many favorites to choose! They discussed "Give it All" and "Swing Life Away" so I'll just say I prefer the Rock Against Bush version of Give it All, and my favorite version of Swing Life Away is when they performed it live at "Steven's Untitled Rock Show" way back in the early 2000s (when Tim still had long hair haha) it's always my go to for that song!
State of The Union, one of "those" hard-hitting opening tracks, absolute BANGER.
Sudden urge🔥🔥
Dude the Killing Tree were cool, never knew Tim was in that band.
Also, just this summer Chad Gray misstepped and fell off the stage while singing “Not Falling”
