She said that she would sneak away to see Kelly when she was at school. Her folks had no knowledge of it, nobody but the roommate. I believe the roommate was the one who told her parents and that prompted the "intervention" they call themselves doing with her. Pretty much she pursued him too. She was what 18/19 at the time right? She caused this whole embarrassment. Now that's my take. I know it's more but this could be what got it started with her being with Kelly.

They want her to stay on topic, because they know she is likely being recorded. The way she says “um” as if she’s pausing to read ahead,, and begins the conversation with “This is Joycelyn”...Her family knows who it is, I am sure they’ve gone through hell, and had to jump through hoops, just have this short conversation.
Another thing about the repetition and “um”s-I’ve done that myself when reading a new script aloud at work. I wasn’t there, so Idk...but it’s not that hard to believe she was scripted to say those words.
